Tiger is not going to break Jack's record

I'm back with my fourth annual "Tiger is not going to break Jack's record" post. The first year I posted this everyone thought breaking the record would be a slam dunk for Woods. The next year a few give the record a change to hold up, but just a small chance. I'm guessing a number of you are finally coming on board now.

Tiger is not going to break the record. Time is running out, and he still doesn't have his game back. Struggling with a new coach, new swing, new caddy, new life. His competition is getting stonger, and without the level of intimidation there used to be. His body is aging with ailments and prior injuries, and that will become more significant as the years pass on. He's already starting to get the yips.

Ridiculous statement after one Major is over this year. Where was your mouth after he dominated at Bay Hill by 5 strokes 2 weeks ago? He needs 5 Major wins in the next 10 years. Still VERY possible.

I was ok with your statements until the last word? What the hell is bias have to do with it. I happen to not want him or ANYONE to break Jack's record. Jack was not only the greatest golfer in his time (it is very hard to compare different generations because of eguipment changes and course designs) but he was and is the greatest gentleman to ever play the game! Am I bias? or were you trying to throw out the old race card! Why in the hell can't people realize it is time for us all to be just people! If you were not hinting at race then I apologize!

No, you are clearly biased toward Jack, an OSU alum. (Did he graduate?) Nothing wrong with that by the way.

Agree, still very possible. If healthy, mentally and physically, he could get one every other year. But using a win at Bay Hill is a bad example of his ability to win majors. Two completely different animals. Tiger has 100 career (actually 99) professional wins. Fourteen of those being majors. Roughly 14% of his career wins are at majors. So he needs to win 7 Bay Hills for every major win. In the last six years it has actually been a 9:1 ratio. That means he has to perform better from ages 37-43, than he performed from age 30-36.

Anything is possible in the world of sports. And Jack did win four after the age of 37. But Jack won majors at a 15% clip (18 of 155 wins). And Jack was consistent. Winning 7 from ages 22-30. And 7 from ages 30-38. Where Tiger has been very inconsistent after 30.

I think the determining factor is going to be health and level of competition. With Tiger having more injury issues and facing a better level of competition than Jack.

  • Duane, he won like two months before Bay Hill.

He can. No doubt in my mind. Will he? I don't know. Probably not but I love when you guys try to diminish his career because of his off the field crap. Remember when he held every major at the same time?

True, just one major is over this year, but so what? That has nothing to do whatsoever with my premise. I've been saying for four years (did you not read my original post?) that Tiger is not going to break Jack's record. So why is that a ridiculous statement? It probably seemed like a riciculous statement four years ago when I first made it, but you can hardly call it ridiculous anymore. My mouth was the same place 2 weeks ago that it was four years ago, and is today. Why do you ask?

Of course it is possible that Tiger will break Jack's record, that we agree upon. Other than death and taxes, anything is possible. Anything is a maybe, a might, a could, a possibility, a chance. And of course Tiger's health has something to do with it all. And of course Tigers mental game has much to do with it all. I factored in all those things, and many others, four years ago, I've stood my gound with no if's, but's, and's or maybe's, and have said that Tiger is not going to break Jack's record. That's all, nothing more, nothing less.

How about you, is he or isn't he, yes or no?
