I can't remember going into a year with so many questions of filling a position, not because of lack of depth, but because of soooo many players that seem capable of taking over and dominating. The only question is who's gonna separate themselves from the pack.

Question on David Perkins. There has been some talk about him possibly moving to the STAR position. Is this still a possibility?Or??

that is what makes this spring so exciting. Urban wanted competition at everything they do. He has created that environment and the players have bought in. It truly is an exciting time to be a Buckeye right now.
The competition at these spring practices will be epic and down right nasty!

I think that Grant deserves the first shot at MLB. He is. reportedly, too talented to not be given that chance. That said, however, I think that Marcus and Mitchell should also get significant time at MLB during the first few games. Then, whoever wins the position should be the MLB. I also think Johnson, Roberts, Perkins and Williams should get some minutes at OLB during the first few games. This team not only needs starters it needs lots of depth at LB and we have the athletes to make that happen.

It's a possibility due to his speed, but I doubt that happens. Especially with OSU getting Vonn Bell, that could free them up to put Bell in at safety and move Christian Bryant down to star in nickel situations. Or if Bell isn't ready, perhaps Pittsburgh Brown (one of only two fifth-year seniors on OSU's defense this season, along with CJ Barnett) could fill the void at star (or play safety when Bryant moves down to star).
So, I wouldn't rule out Perkins at star, but I'd bet against it.

Dave, another reason the D was better after the Indiana debacle was Meyer ripping Fickell and wanting more pressure on the QB.. Stop playing that soft zone and giving the short underneath passes.. We have the talent to play man and bring the heat..

Katzenmoyer or Spielman starting as a true freshman although Spiels had to wait half a game. I think it would be a long shot at best for Mitchell to claim it without the benefit of spring ball. I've been hinting for a while that if Shazier is truly around 230 to slide him to the Mike. However if Grant can be the LB we all anticipated him being that is better yet. Would love to see Perkins be able to man the Star. I focused on him a number of times on special teams last season and he can flat out run.

Dave, What is the status of Joe Burger #48 walk-on Soph. of Cincinnati LaSalle HS?
Does he have a shot at the two or three deep chart or is his role to be a career special teamer?
With this log jam of uncertainty at the Middle LB spot could he be one to step forward?

I think all of the.safety and two of the linebacker jobs will be shuffled around. I'm sure they will play around with different options all the way through the second or third game of the fall honestly.
Also I hope vrabel rotates a lot more on the dline.
