  • It was not that long ago where UCLA made the final four like 3 or 4 straight years. Maybe 4 years ago or so. Love played there and collison or somebody

I wanted to chime back because this got me thinking.

  • I think a few people need to calm down. Did the topic say "Tony Parker accepts Cash to play" or "UCLA CHEATS."

The topic is a question to see what you guys think. And a few people that has posted says they could have.

That's what you insinuated at least stick by your opinion.

  • I think there is a very good chance UCLA is paying players. But I also wouldn't be surprised if OSU basketball recruits were getting cash as well.

    Go Buckeyes!!

  • If we sign 3 five star players this year. I will accuse Matta of coughin up the dough. It's funny that half the people on this site assumes Calipari is cheating when they have no evidence, but let the guy ask if UCLA was paying recruits and we'll ream his a$$.

  • I also believe that no program is squeaky clean and anyone paying anyone is very realistic but you shouldn't single out a recruit because he didn't choose us.

  • Well I get that the rose bowl is off campus but from our perspective it's our dream to play there once a year yet they get the chance every home game. To me it's a no brainer.

Maybe if they just got better facilities it would fix it.

As a grad of TOSU and MBA from UCLA I am thrilled with UCLA's class. They redid the Pauley Center and the school offers a great TOSU quality education located in the nice part of LA (adjacent to Bel Air/Beverly Hills/Brent Wood). A great tradition and great weather with passionate loyal fans.

Problem with Football versus USC is they play in the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, an hour away from campus and have mediocre facilities and try to have good student athletes. USC has the Coliseum adjacent to campus and a great tradition and passionate football fans.
If UCLA could build a stadium adjacent to campus (super expensive real estate) then they shopuld be able to compete with USC.

I believe I mentioned a program. Even if it wasn't Parker that signed, maybe another 5 star, this post would have still gone up. I just think it's funny that the news come out about their program 2 weeks ago and they are still signing the best talent in the Nation.

I haven't accused him of cheating since he doesn't have to at uk like memphis or unassuming but it is different when you are comparing a coach who has vacated two final fours to UCLA. But I am done with this thread since with the matta comment you have just stated that if anyone does well recruiting than you default to them cheating and you have shown your lack of knowledge by not realizing the UCLA success.

  • They didn't cheat. They signed an AAU coach as an Assistant Coach who has ties to some recruits. It paid off. Every school does it. Example: IU is in the process of possibly hiring Kenny Johnson. Former AAU coach of Team Takeover. If IU hires him that puts them in the drivers seat for Beenjay Anya. Not cheating. It's the nature of the business now-a-days.

Ben Howland has not had two Final 4s vacated under his watch. A GULF of difference between the two my friend.

Biggest hurdle for Jim Mora jr could very well be the admission standards for athletes at UCLA. It is second only to Stanford in the PAC 12 and top 15 nationally from an entire spread on this a while back in a south Florida newspaper (too lazy to look it up). Which means the net they can cast for recruits is significantly diminished compared to the big dogs they are going up against on the recruiting trail such as $C, Oregon and national powers. And quite often the recruits UCLA has an in with or is targeting are also eligible for Stanford and I'd be full of it if I didn't say that is a tough offer to turn down for an athlete in any sport. Just to be clear, not saying that all the guys on the Trojans and Ducks, etc. roster would be Bruins if it weren't for pesky, egg head admissions people but it makes Mora and staff's recruiting quite tricky. In all though, UCLA/Duke/UNC basketball and Ohio State/USC/Texas football are among the easiest sells in all of intercollegiate athletics IMO.
