US men's soccer

Excuse my ignorance on the subject. I just think I saw that the US men's team did not qualify for the Olympics. I thought that the team was getting better how did this happen. Do only a few teams get into the Olympics or is this just a huge failure. It seems like this is one of two times for soccer to promote its sport to the United States.

The U.S. mens team will never be a top 10 power ever if we do not put money into the soccer program. Europe and South American countries will always be the best. I know Duane must've been cursing at the tele when watching the game

They flopped... now granted the Olympic Team is 23 and under so its not like Dempsey, Donovan , Timmy, Bradley and them are playing. We have to develope our youth programs which will take some time, but its not like our World Cup Team failed to Qualify for the Olympics.

I doubt it... he knows our youth program needs work.

It was our U-23 team, not our National team, so while this is a major disappointment, it is not as serious as if our senior national team did not make it

Our best athletes tend to play basketball and football. In Europe and South America they play soccer. There are always exceptions, but this is a fairly accurate generalization. The US will never be a world power in soccer until more elite athletes choose to favor the sport in this country. I don't see that happening anytime soon, and I'm okay with it. I hope we do well, but it is hard to beat another country's best athletes at a sport when you have 2nd tier athletes.

Soccer is very popular worldwide and in the U.S.A..but in other countries soccer doesnt have to compete with the big sports for athletes and money so I dont know if we will ever turn the corner...I would like to see football made an Olympic sport because we have the monopoly on that. I could care less about soccer but I am a homer for the Red, White and Blue so if the good ole USA is playing in anything from checkers to jujitsu Im a fan.

The Olympics is under 23 and you can pick 3 over age players.
The reason for this is because if it was the full squads, the in would just
be in competition with FIFA's main tournament the World Cup.
The women's however allows for the full squad. so ever two years
you have a world cup or olympics.

You can pick 3 over age but Jozy and others of the mnt are under 23 so it seems to work out.
Had us won instead of tied of that fluke goal they would have been 1st place in pool and qualified.the loss to Canada killed us the other day but one of our best strikers Juan A is out with a acl suffered in loss to canada

Just to clairfy. You can play on both the national team and the U23 team.......correct? I am sure it is a stupid question to many, but forgive me.

Many of the pro teams won't release their players either. The mens Olympic soccer tournament is considered more or less a non-event to the rest of the soccer world. But we in the US consider the Olympics a big deal period in all sports.

In what way? Do you think that our best athletes are playing soccer and we just don't have the best athletes or is it incorrect that this is how it will always be. From someone not educated in soccer it does seem like we are not as physically talented so just seeing what is incorrect there.
