Urban on Rod Smith

Has anyone heard what the new staff thinks of Smith? He was all but anointed the next Eddie last spring. Then all hell broke loose, the offense went into the stone ages after Tress was outed, and he was banished to the bench after a fumble. I still don't think we know how good this kid actually is. Has anyone heard what Urban, and his assistants, have to say about him?

They seem to love Bri'onte Dunn, which means things are not looking good for Rod Smith. I saw a suddenness out of Smith that I didn't see out of the other backs last year, so I thought there was a lot of potential there. We will have to see what happens in fall camp. At least with a new staff that means there is a lot less reliance on seniority and I fully expect the best men will emerge.

Well for starters it wasn't just "a" fumble it was multiple fumbles at very inopportune times (if there is ever a good time to fumble)...
It was the media annointing him the next Eddie..
And it is 2 coaching staffs that have buried him on the depth chart.
I too, would like to see more of the kid, but if he stays buried on the depth chart I think he'd be a prime candidate to transfer at seasons end.
I gotta think its now or never with Hall hurt and Dunn facing a possible suspension.

I don't think Urban listing Rodd Smith as the 3rd RB on the depth chart after spring ball (behind Hall & Hyde) falls under burying him on the depth chart.

Thanks for the down votes for asking a question guys... I guess I misunderstood that this was a Ohio State forum where you get to keep up with what's going on, Sorry I had not heard he committed to ND. I can't stand ND. Why would he waste his career there

Fair point....but everything I have read thus far has him 4th going into this season. That's pretty deep.

Thought he looked good during the spring game.
At this point for him - its more mental than anything. He needs to hang in there and keep working hard.
When his opportunities come - he will need to make the most of them.
I know its said over and over again - but the season is long and grueling. Having multiple backs is a bonus.
