That's simply false. The reason that they have such a big class this year is that they only had a class of about 19 last year, with several non qualifiers, leaving them with about a class of 16 or 17.
They played this season with about 75 (if I recall correctly) players on scholarship. He accomplished what he did this year with a less than full deck, rather than a stacked deck. Credit to where credit is due.

It is a sham...it's his own fault that he couldnt get enough guys in the last class. That's part of the recruiting game in my opinion. I mean do your homework and recruit guys that can qualify. If they dont qualify then that's on you for recruiting on the edge. There should be a set limit across the board for all college football teams, period. The B1G needs to stop being the "bigger person" and bring to light these rediculous recruiting indifferences, it is costing them money and their reputation as a football power.

If it is true that they had a class of only 16 in 2012 AND their total scholarship count is 75 AND they have as many 24 players leave the program through graduation, transfer, declare for the NFL, etc., then they could:
* sign 9 kids that graduate from HS early and enroll early. All these kids would be counted in the 2012 class.
* sign 25 kids that enroll at the normal time. All these kids would be counted in the 2013 class.
In this way the numbers of scholarships per year and total roster would be perfectly legal:
* 2012 - 16 + 9 = 25
* 2012 - 25
* Roster total - (75 - 24) + 9 + 25 = 85
This approach would give them ability to sign 34 kids from the 2013 class and be legal in any conference in the country including the B1G.
Is it likely that they loose 24 players? Maybe. They just had a coaching change; look at the attrition at OSU under similar circumstances. Is it likely they will find 9 early entries? Well, probably not.
I am not saying this is what they are doing. I am just saying there is a way to make it work.
I have a lot a of respect for Sumlin; I live in Texas and have watched them fairly closely for years. I was very surprised at how well they did in the SEC. I am just sorry they are not still in the Big 12 so they could be a thorn in UT's and Oklahoma's side.

I'm gong to lay out the football schedule for the next 5 years, show me one, just one game Ohio State fans would find acceptable to lose.
