WR Excited About OSU Offer

  • OSUDon said...

I heard somewhere that speed is overrated anyway. What matters is if he looks like an "Ohio State man".

    LMAO. Good one.

  • After watching his film he reminds me of a B10 WR...He reminds me of Allen Robinson of PSU...not a bad guy to look like. Hes probably an inch taller than Robinson and probably 15 pounds lighter but he plays like Robinson.

  • I really hope that we get Mark Andrews or Dallis Todd instead of Kief. Todd for example would be a nice addition because he and Luatua play together. And Mark Andrews is just overall a better receiver than Derek Kief IMO. But I do hope we get 2-3 tall receivers. If I had my pick it'd be Harris and Todd (with the provision he comes with Luatua).

I'm wondering why people don't like him. Seems to be running by people in his higjlight video. Gets up in the air and seems to make tought catches. Blocks well. He might not have top end speed, but we need some variation in our receivers in my IMO. For those who aren't fans, I'm curious to hear why

Personally I'm a guy who appreciates speed, I saw him play against Moeller and he had a big game. I'll tell you this he does make tough catches though. And he's not a bad player by any stretch. I just think I'd put a couple guys in front of him (who we are still in play for) ya know? Honestly I just wish we had more schollies lol.

  • Wow.. i never heard of him until tonite, but after watching his highlight film, what is there not to like? If u nit pic you could say he didnt show much wiggle, in his highlights... but the kid catches everything with his hands, makes catches in traffic, stands 6'5 with a wing span that looks close to 6'9, blew by guys on deep routes, is from OHIO, isn't afraid to go over the middle, plus we need a outside reveiver with size to complement the ridicoulous speed guys we got in 2013! I love the offer, and wouldnt be surprised if he committed on his next or first visit to the shoe! He's even ranked relatively high...im wondering why his name hasnt been mentioned??

Who knows what the attrition will be. We could have 12 players leave in the next 12 months...you never know.

  • to the doubters out there, so if cris carter or michael irvin or larry fizgerald or a. boldin etc, etc were coming out today we shouldn't offer due to lack of speed?

    yourbuck

  • But wait, he can't love Ohio State he is from Cincinnati. Just another example of the baloney i hear all the time. Love the offer and hope he ends up a Buckeye.

Kief isn't comparable to any of those guys my dude. Hes a tall skinny guy, and at his frame he should be able to move. And tell me, is it wrong to like a your recievers to be sure handed and have some burners? For example AJ Green is lanky like Kief, but in addition to being a leaper in the endzone he's also a deep threat. Calvin Johnson weighs 235 at 6'5 but runs a 4.35. That's the type of SEs I'd want. Gimme a guy with both speed and size, Don't tell me I have to pick one or the other.

  • He must pass the measureables Osu is looking for, maybe they want to grab an instate guy, not too many places available at the WR position in this class and I was expecting OOS to complete this part of the class. Good to have a solid Ohio WR, however does anyone else care here? you take the 20 best guys you can get at the position of need, but all 20 guys are OOS do you care? Can you live with no Ohio Kids in that class?

Love this offer, my guy at finest prep said this kid will be stud and has yet to hit his potential.

The out of state kids get all the love. It's natural. They're "national".

After landing Marshall, Clark, and Wilson, I'd say that we're in pretty good shape at the slot and "downfield threat WR" positions.

The only thing missing, according to the Board, was receivers with size, the Michael Jenkins SE types. I'm sure that Drake Harris and Kitt would not be turned away in a class of 20, where only 1 QB and 1 RB will likely be taken. Lattimore is in for O or D, if he wants it.

IMO, Kief would be a perfect fit, given our existing roster. He's fast enough, but more importantly, despite his currently slight frame, he's tough, isn't afraid of the middle of the field, is very long (plays longer than his height), and has great hands. He, like Baugh, would be a luxury for a young QB, in 3rd and 6 situation.

The fact that he's a good student is icing.

Lattimore (O or D) and Kief, and work for 2 of the out of staters. That would be serious work. We'll need the numbers, as 2 will graduate and I'll bet that 2 will transfer by the summer of 2014, when C. Smith, D. Smith, and E. Spencer will be rising seniors.

I hope that this offer is commitable.

    Go Bucks!

Look at his offer list. Not another decent school on the list. This is either an "take it now or lose it " offer, or he is a plan B or C guy. OhioSt83 has it right on.

I continue to be amazed by the people who assume because a player doesn't have an impressive offer list or a high 4 or 5 star rating, that he isn't worthy of a real offer. If we are going to proclaim to have the greatest coaching staff in the nation and the greatest recruiters in the nation, then why are we going to question their evaluation of a player? Kief would not be the first player we offered earlier than the other eiltes to "blow up" and see their rating and offer list blow up. Then people rave about the staff's recruiting ability. I understand the fascination with offer lists as a measuring stick, but some elite school has to be first. Might as well be us, especially for an Ohio kid.

  • This is like a Tracy Sprinkle situation. The staff has identified a player that is about to blow up. Trust the staff.

In addition to those two guys, there are maybe 6-8 other guys in the world that tall, with great speed, who run great routes, and can catch. You don't have to choose between great speed and great size, provided you choose one of the 10 people in the world known to have all those skills. Obviously we would love the second coming of Calvin Johnson, but there's a reason those guys are so valuable.
