WR's issues!!

  • This is my first ever topic for me to start. I'm feeling a bit worried about these guys. With all the reps they have been getting the 70 passes per practice Brax is doing I would think they would pick up the plays and routes a little faster. I like that UFM has pointed this out already but even with speed and the ability to catch the dang ball what will it matter if their not where they are supposed to be. I do feel they will get it eventually knowing this is a new offense. My concern is when it was our week spot last year as well as O line so you think they would have been all over. Maybe im wrong idk much about the position and all or how hard it is compared to other positions but its my biggest worry at the moment. Open for any thoghts on this maybe I just worry to much.

  • They may not be up to Urban's standard of what he wants, but I think the WRs will be good enough for us to have a good offense. And I think once they learn the offense better, a couple of those guys will 'step up'. I'd agree that it may be our weakest position going into the fall though.

  • I hope they the improve because I worry with our expectations of 12-0 or 10-2 range it will be really hard. I think Brax will be better this year but if he can't trust his recivers idk we can win the big games. Guess we shall see.

  • No reason to freak. They evidently started coming together in the last week or so of practice, and looked pretty solid in the spring game.

Are they where we need them to be.... no but there is still a lot of time till the season starts and a few games in to work out the kinks.

There are alot of tools in the arsenal, and the new scheme will use them all. Most importantly the inside zone read/power run game with a stable of backs. Ironically this is essentially the dreaded "Dave" but the D has to stay clean since they will be smoked by easy contraint passes.

Now 10-2 is pretty darned ambitious..... new staff... new scheme and a lack of game experience up the middle (RB, QB, C, DTs, Inside LB, Safety) = some bumps along the way.

  • I think they looked ok hard to tell considering it was almost all passes and about only 30% of they offense. I mean some good plays but I thought would have been more. I guess what I really concerned about is the balance because of our O line. I do think they will be better than last year of course but really how hard would that be? I know im prob over reacting but when you read that even UFM has had to say something to WR coach makes you wonder. Either way im behind my BUCKS all the way just figured be a good topic to talk about. Thanx

  • I like our guys! I hope they shove it up every non-believers arse.

  • Woody used to say that a team is always either improving or going backwards. The spring game showed me we are going to improve our passing game significantly in 2012, and then be more attractive to elite wide receiver recruits.

  • I guess you didnt see Thomas in the Spring game. With Thomas, Smith, and Brown I feel pretty comfortable with our WR for this season. Could we use an ELITE speed wr? sure, but I think we our good enough to beat anyone on our the 2012 schedule. We would be in trouble against an elite defense like LSU or Alabama but we dont have to play anyone like that this season.

  • I seen the 12 catches and he looked good thats why I put WR's cause he was really the only one that showed up consistantly that is. Dont get me wrong I think they will turn out to be fine im just not sure they will be ready for start of the season. Its all just conversation not bashing anyone just thought since it was mentioned in the boarding house it would bave been good topic to talk about.

  • I just hope us Bucknut fans do not expect that this 2012 team will be complete World beaters...yes we want it to be but, look at the real facts:
    1) Not Meyer's recurits-he is working from the current cupboard
    2) compete new system-QB's and RB's have to adjust
    3) Almost all new coaching staff
    4) Working under NCAA penatilies
    5) Team coming back from 6-7 record wiht 4 straight losses to end season
    6) Almost all compele new OL
    7) Most receivers un-tested in real games and new system
    8) Offensive running at new speed

I believe that Meyer and this team will perform well....but he has to be building for 2013 and HIS team wiht the speed and talent he needs torun the offense and solid Defense. I see 2012 as a team that will move the ball pretty well on offense, but will not be the real explosive team that we will see in 2013, and a team wiht a solid Defense that will be the heart and soul of this team.....Gosh, I would like to see us win all 12 games, but it will be a stiff challenge.....

Thankfully it's safe to say the team will look NOTHING like last year. I suppose having a year like that every 20-25 helps us appreciate what we have...

I think we will be fine. They have all Summer to adjust. The Spring Game can only give you so much of an idea as they are split up all over the joint. Imagine what it will be like once you add Jhall to the mix. I completely agree, Fritz.

I will definitely give you Thomas... and I believe Reed and Stoneburner are going to be huge as well. Throw Smith and Brown on top of that, plus a few recruits that aren't on campus yet, and we should be ok this season.

  • World beaters no, but some optimism is due. 6 of our 7 losses last year were by 7 points or less. That despite having the worst passing attack in college football (Army and Navy do not attempt to throw the ball so they don't count). I think Michigan State, because of their defense, is our only close game this year. Unfortunately, that is as much a comment on how medicore the B1G will be, as it is on how good we will be.

If tatgate had never happened we easily run the table last year and meet LSU in the NC. I think we beat them. What a shame.

UFM will be able to navigate this year's puny schedule. Tressel could have only wished for this year's schedule. 12-0 and AP Poll Champs. I'll have my fork ready for crow if we don't win them all. The AP championship depends on circumstances out of the control of UFM.

BTW, the WR's as a whole look much better than at any time in the last five years because of UFM's offense. Does anyone believe the B1G can stop them if our secondary was a step behind all day?

I like your optimism......but ...keep that fork and plate of crow close at hand. Just sayin.
