I was thinking the same thing.. what is funny is these kids and the ones that will come in 2013 won't even have a past Buckeye to compare them to because they will be a new breed... this is what will sell tOSU for the next 5-10 years under Urban!!

  • I would put him at DE. His burst and and ability to change direction are freakish. After watching the tape of the other DE's we recruited I have a real hard time believing he couldn't beat them out. A rush end is much more important position than a linebacker so I would put him at DE at least as a situational pass rusher.

  • From the tape I've seen..this kid is all WIDE SIDE LB..and Roberts has great instincts and takes super angles and WILL play at MLB..let the rest fight it out for the SHORT SIDE LB and this is where I see Perkins..

It ought to be a lot of fun watching this play out with Shazier and Grant only sophomores..the LB position went from a HUGE weakness to a major strength in one recruiting class..

Curtis Grant on the strong side, Marcus in the middle, Shazier on the weakside: If in the next couple of years this is our linebacking crew, it could be the most athletic lb crew ever at OSU (in my memory).

Dont get carried away with this yet. These guys haven't even played a down of College Football yet and you have them in the Hall of Fame. This is the Linebacker "U". They have about FIFTY Great ones previous to them. There have been some serious trios previous to this.
Lets just wait until they figure out who is going to play and where they are going to play.

I agree Marcus belongs in the middle like Big Kat as I dont know if he can cover any receivers yet.
And you havent given any props to Perry, Perkins, or Williams.

Do you not understand the past History of Linebackers of Linebackers at Ohio State?

Since Meyer is here it seems like a day does not go by without a "the next Percy Harvin" quote... what you think of these...

Schutt= Quinn Pitcock Adolphus= Will Smith Pittman = Cam Heyward Spence= Gholston (great in college- NFL?)

I think a few of these guys make their own name too.....Others....

I'm hoping for better than Heyward and Gholston.

No offense to those players I appreciated having them be buckeyes, but they both had tendencies to disappear for long stretches. When they were totally motivated (see Gholston vs Long, Heyward vs Arky) they were absolute terrors, but where was that 100% of the time?

Meyer seems intent on making sure we dont see that with these new guys.

  • Von Miller was listed at 6'2" and 245 with a 4.49 40 when he was a first team AA and drafted in the first round by the Broncos. He just won the NBA AP defensive rookie of the year.
Marcus has plenty of time to put on more weight, but they are comparable IMHO.

  • These young guys look really really good. I think what does impress me is their motors, they seem to be playing all out while others are a half step off. I agree that Markus, Roberts, Perry, Perkins & Williams help give us something to work with going forward. Recruit as many guys like Shazier as you can find, that guy blows plays up, strips the ball, and head hunts right through the whistle.

Marcus has been a pretty good name for Buckeye linebackers, remembering Marcus Marek more than Freeman, and the history of great linebacker pairs: Marek & Cobb, Spielman & Pepper Johnson, Big Kat, & Diggs, The Animal & Hawk. Keep in mind it was Hawk that was the unappreciated recruit when he, Carpenter, White, and D'Andrea stepped into the Shoe together.

Speaking of which lets keep it all in perspective. Many of us remember going crazy when D'Andrea picked OSU over Nebraska and then we all painfully suffered with Mike through his injury plagued career. I wish them well, and appreciate Coach Meyer and this class for becoming Buckeyes!! They can lay the foundation for a new era in Buckeye football. A foundation where whiners get their asses kicked, and those that stay "will really become Buckeye Champions"

Coach was having problems with Perry's name, and no mention of Perkins or Williams; but he put Marcus on Yahoo (that's where his props went).

Now put Adolphus Washington/Pittman on the strong side DE and Noah Spence/Perry on the weakside: I'm about going to faint from the excitement!

This is serious athletic ability: SERIOUS!

(Now can they play football? LOL).

dude...........i would put steve miller in before perry who is a linebacker anyway. smh at perry on weakside ha

Maybe you guys should put him in the Super Bowl today then the Patriots could use him.

I am just saying slow down for a minute and give him a chance to settle in.
You guys do this every year about some young kid and then if he doesn't pan out, you end up TRASHING him like you did Sabino and Bell and Newsome and Klein and all the others who were BIG BUSTS here!

In the meantime Perry is already enrolled and will be ready to play, as Marcus has never even played LB before.
