What We Learned: NU 34, OSU 27

And some of the posters on here suck.... Just saying.

Hey Tim, you and I agree about something! Folks should just let this season play out, and root for the Buckeyes in the process.

At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought.

  • I sparingly watched the first half at work but I missed the second half since my friend really wanted to see Real Steel. I don't think this was the biggest collapse though. Didn't we lose to Penn State after being up 21-0 in 2001? What a terrible way to lose though. I feel so bad for these kids.

  • Since everyone knows that Bow Wow should never ever play QB, why don't you guys grow a pair (yeah Dave and Steve, I'm talking to you) put the question to Luke point blank and ask him why Kenny G. never gets a chance, since Bow Wow is the worst thing to ever happen at the QB position. He always tries to dismiss the question, but he needs to be put on the spot. We, as fans, deserve to know why Luke acts as if it's out of the question to use anyone other than JB when Brax can't play. We have nothing to lose to play anyone other than JB. I feel really bad for Graham too. He certainly doesn't deserve being ignored. I think with time, he could be a really good player but he probably won't stick around long enough for us to find out. Hopefully he and KG both stay so the next coach can give them the chance they deserve!!

  • I agree .. Season is over . Most of us dont care about recruiting stories about lower tier recruits at lb we may offer. Reports and rumors on meyer or other coaches is all I care for

  • Hopefully not Bauserman.

  • Let's not get fixated on the O here fellas all we heard all week long was if the Bucks score 17 then we will win the game. The problem is no one believed we could score 10. Well we scored 27 and still lost. This one is soley on the defense.

This is a good point. I do find it a bit hilarious how the board is melting down. A week ago people were praying Nebraska didn't run us off the field.

Your absolutely right. If you had told me ahead of time the bucks would score 27, I would have taken them to win every time.

However, the game was essentially over after Bauserman's first series. Instead of doing an adjustment for the personel on the field, Bollman upped the amount of pass plays for Bowwow instead of just pounding the ball and eating up clock. I'm not surprised that Bollman did not adjust. I am surprised that the D didn't show up in the second half. That is unfathomable to me. Has the team given up on this coaching staff completely?

  • Don't ever play bauserman again. Take his jersey away and burn it. I don't ever want to see him on the field again unless its on special teams. Fickel managed to make Bo Pelini look like a coaching genius.

Anyone left who thinks Fickel has a shot at coaching this team? You are living in a fantasy world. Fickel is not going to coach this team. We are on our way to a .500 season with one of the more talented teams we have had. .500 Why? Because Luke Fickel is a moron who couldn't hold Tressel's jock strap.

I cannot believe this team blew that lead. We NEVER blow leads.....EVER. We take 10 point leads and squeeze teams to death.

Fickel? I hate you. Only your incompetance could steal defeat from certain victory. And as was already stated you are going to be immortallized now because that game is going to get replayed for the next 50 fu&*ing years for being an instant classic. Thank you Luke Fickel for immortalizing Ohio State's shame.

  • If Guiton doesn't leapfrog Bauserman on the depth chart this week I will be done hoping for Fickell.

  • I disagree to an extent that the D gave up. Rather, Nebraska started running a play Bollman calls "Passport". It's a combination of zone read and QB Power. That's the play Nebraska scored on two plays after Brax's fumble and continued to have success with the rest of the game. The biggest shock to me is that play is in OSU's playbook, yet the OSU D didn't adjust and get it stopped. Instead, they panicked and went back to what we've seen in past weeks...not getting off blocks, poor angles, and missed tackles. Then toss sweep started killing us bc of the reasons I mentioned and it snowballed. Collossal meltdown for sure.

Don't get me started on JB. I actually feel bad for the guy bc he's so inept.

That was Jeremy Cash that made the tackle not Gution.. I said after the Miami game if Joe Bauserman ever played another down Luke Fickell needed to be fired on the spot!! How F'N stupid are Bollman and Fickell. Bowwow sucks. He is the wrost QB ever at OSU!! I cannot believe when he came in and we had a 2 touchdown lead Bollman just start throwing the ball like BOWWOW is Tom Brady?? WTF?? Plus he must have used all his imagination up in the first half..Yes the D did get exposed but seemed once BOWWOW came in, the whole team looked deflated.. Poor coaching again, terrible play calling, Sucky QB equals loss... Please Urban come save us!!!!!!!!!!!!! if not Urban then I take Gundy from OK ST,,,

  • Why are we constantly riding the O (ok, I understand!!), but give the D a pass. I have been saying for weeks that our D has been playing soft coverage, missing tackles, and once past the D-line what will happen next is often a mystery. During the 1st half, I was preparing how to write on Bucknuts that I was wrong...I was going to eat crow (gladly!!). However, yes, the O sucked in the 2nd half, but so much of the game plan revolved around Braxton. BUT, what about the D allowing an anemic offense to make such a HUGE comeback. Martinez was able to run and throw at will, receivers were constantly given a cushion to obtain 1st downs, and once past the D-line Martinez and Burkhead ran free. I am not a Bollman fan, but lets spread the venom.

  • What we learned?
-We knew Braxton would get hurt, he runs so hard.
-People thought our defense was good. Not. They are average at best. Anyone who thought that scoring 27 would be enough to win did not realize that we have not played a decent scoring offense up until now.
-We learned that we have a front seven on D that is not fast. Did anyone watch the LSU-Florida game? The players on LSU's front seven just look better in their jerseys than OSU. Much more athletic. Hank needs to slim down even more. Sabino is athletic, but he needs to play smarter. Klein and Sweat are slow. Simon is strong, but slow. I'm just saying.
-We learned Shazier needs to get some action. He looks like a football player.
-We learned that Shugarts can not focus for an entire football game.
-We learned that Hyde looks like a young Beanie Wells at times. He does not have the same footwork or vision like Wells, but he has breakaway speed
-We learned that Miller could be a monster next year with the right coaching.
-We learned that Adams makes a difference.
-We learned that Bryant completely whiffed on a misdirection TD pass, but the kid can still play. He hits hard.
-We learned that Tressel may still be coaching this team from home via 2-way radio. Remember how Tressel tried to lose against Arkansas in the Sugar bowl? This looked similar. Where were the in game adjustments?
-We learned that Guiton could have helped us win just by taking zone read snaps and managing a sound running game. Miller had eight attempts in 2 1/2 quarters and Bauserman had ten attempts in 1 1/2 quarters? WTF? Guiton should have came in with Miller's playbook.
-We learned that it is sickening to watch Bauserman take snaps. If he is a team player, why does he not self-sanction himself and demand that the coaches make him the place kick holder? I understand its not his fault that he sucks, but he could do the right thing himself.
-We learned that Bollman has a playbook with good stuff in it. Not knowing to consistently use is what he has done for a decade.
-We learned that Fickell is toast.

Liam, I believed you nailed it. Bill's stories on never-heard-from-before players reminds me of RR of Mich era recruiting.

The Urban Meyers "done deal" news gives me peace of mind.

I agree with everything you said EXCEPT the comment that Braxton looked good throwing the ball. He still has trouble throwing the deep ball (at least 20 yards) and until he does, the defenses will continue to crowd the line. Also, by not finding his secondary receivers quickly enough, he's pulling the down too quickly and taking off ... often for good gains, but it so opens himself up to injuries.

All of that being said... He is still vastly superior to Bauserman, who evidently is the only other option at QB.

I have been one of Luke's supporters since the day he was announced as the coach, but he should lose any and all chance of keeping the job permanently for not inserting Guiton or Graham at some point last night.

  • I'm not defending anything here but Nebraska is a really good team and we were playing them in Lincoln. Sure we had them right where we wanted midway through the third, but that's what really good teams do, they make adjustments and come back.

As far as our offense, Braxton looked pretty good in this game. The game changed when he got hurt. How do you coach that? When the cupboards are bare you go with what you have. Nebraska's staff is not stupid so they crowded the line and forced us into passing situations. Joe B is just not ready to play for a big time D1 program. I'm not going to knock the kid because he's been a part of our program for a while now and it's not like he's out there Not trying or that he doesn't want to be better at certain things. 9 month's ago he was content with spending his upcoming senior season as the mop up man for TP and tutoring a young player named Braxton.

As for Fickel, they guy is in a no win situation here. The program is a mess and to be honest he is in way over his head as a HC. He needed some experience at a smaller program before taking on this role. Perhaps he gets this next year as I highly doubt he is back at tOSU as a HC. I truly feel bad for the guy but he, like JB, is trying his best. You can't fault him for that.

  • I guess everyone sees how pathetic Bauserman is except our coaches. Luke, are you reading this?????

  • I hope someone credentials asks some tough questions!!! or will they puss out and play softball with Luke?

#26 just faked blitzed again, and then did nothing!

    paddyoherald

  • All this shows that we may be able to win if Miller can play and if the Defense can hold the other team to fewer than 21 points. I am not sure if I am more disappointed with the stalled offense in the 2nd half or the collapse by our defense. There are some serious problems on this team. We obviously have the talent ...but at 1/2 through the season...we have lots of question marks. Something stinks at OSU. Any ideas ...what?

    BelmontOSUfan

  • I would also say the only solution to the mess our program is in is a full house cleaning from the AD down to the compliance officers. This means everyone, well with the exception of Archie, but we need a new culture and a new identity here. It just feels like this team from day one has played like a team with a broken heart. Fickel will never live up to the lofty expectations set forth and to be honest, he's not in position to succeed. The handlers are running this program right now and the head coach is just following orders. It can't work this way.
