What We Learned: OSU 73, Gonzaga 66

The Buckeyes hold off the pesky Bulldogs and advance to the Sweet 16 for the third consecutive season. What stood out about the game? What's next? We have much more in WWL.

  • I think we learned that Amir Williams can be a very good defensive player. He did a great job when he came into the game.

  • That Craft got screwed by the B10 selection team, for only getting Defensive Player of the Year.....a first teamer if ever there was one.!!!
We learned that when Sully sits we do not come apart, and panic. We learned that size does not always matter as the thug #00 tried to portray.
We learned that this team could go a long way in this torunment if they play together!

  • Aaron stay aggressive at the offensive end. Even in the second half. We need you! Tremendous effort.

  • We learned that Coach Matta finally has faith in his bench going 9 deep in today's game. The move was very successful!

    jukey25

  • Agreed. Loved seeing Matta use a deeper bench. You don't recruit McDonald's All-Americans to have them sit on the pine!

  • Good overall team win. We dance on to Boston!

  • Craft was aggressive. Thomas shot well and the defense came to play.

  • We learned that Gonzaga is neither pesky nor scrappy, but a talented team with low post players who are athletic, have length and can create shots in the paint, including turn about jumpers. Ohio State's high shooting percentage kept them in the game in the first half, but they lagged against the zone. DeShaun is the most electric scorer on the team and needed more touches than he got in the first 10 minutes (0). Gritty effort by the Bucks paid off!

  • We learned that Craft needs to be that offensive in all games. He was great and is great! We learned that Amir Williams can play and should play at least 8-10 mintues per game. We learned that Thomas has become our go to guy and we should go to him often, especially when the other team packs 3 or 4 guys on Sullinger. We learned that Buford is stepping up as he should. We learned that Coach Matta can and should use at least 4 bench players (Scott, Ravenal, Thompson, and Williams) regularly to give the starters rest and to change pace.

  • We have learned that the Buckeyes have to be scrappy energetic all over the place D and fundamental rebounding block out ect . On offense since we dont really have a center Craft and the guys have to be patient and spread it around ... Craft is turning into a really good all around point guard .. He is the key to the Buckeyes run in this tournament but we need to win as a team we are a roll play team more then last year Amir Amir williams was a key find today !!!!

  • The Big 10 is showing they can hang in there with more athletic teams with all of the wars they have bin in... wisky and Vandy in a dog fight !!! Buckeyes over Gonzaga Purdue comeing through Indiana hanging in there plus right now Sparty could beat anyone in the nation !!! Lets go Cinci next.... OSU vsCinci would be fun!!!

  • On to the Sweet 16! Craft played a great game, and role players helped out too. Now we must keep rolling in Boston! I just hope that Thomas doesn't decide he is NBA ready after the season. Go Bucks!

I totally friggin agree...I've been saying he should have seen a lot more action all year.....if you have a 7 footer who can walk and chew gum at the same time....YOU HAVE TO USE HIM!

    Go Bucks!

It was a GREAT team effort and like almost everyone else I was glad to see William's defense. Not to rain on the parade, but it was only 4 minutes. Not sure we learned that Matta should play those 4 regularly. Looking at the box score, they had a combined 26 minutes of playing time. Statistically, they went 0-1 from the field and 0-1 from the line, for a total of 0 points. They had 2 rebounds, 0 assists, 1 steal, 1 blocked shot, and committed 3 TOs and had 4 PFs.

What we learned, IMO, is that we need to find a way to get some production from the bench. Ravenal has been the only consistent producer off the bench all season, not counting mop ups. Scott has given some good minutes of ball handling but has shown little production. Unfortunately because of the level of competition at the Sweet 16, it is not the time to look for things you haven't had all season. Just have to hope that injuries, foul problems, and fatigue are all held at bay for 4 more games.

  • At least OSU is worth watching. Am taking in the Wisky vs, Vandy game and Ryan plays a style that is hard to watch. Hold the ball, shoot the 3 and hope for long rebounds. Would love to see us play Wisc again and send them back to Madison.

It could happen. Wussconsin can frustrate impatient teams like Syracuse. Plus, UW, if they're on, can shoot a team out of their zone defense. Could be a hard game to watch. We'd have a real good case of payback, if it happens.

  • We learned what we already knew.

This team is not perfect but IT HAS HEART. The Zags were killing us in the paint and Sulley was on the bench with two fouls. But we picked up our chins off the floor and took the lead at haltime. GREAT TEAM WIN!!!!!!!! Go Bucks!
