What We Learned: OSU 73, Gonzaga 66

  • We learned that Michigan still sucks. Wait, sorry, we learned that yesterday.

We learned today that this team is getting better. Craft appears to be on a path for the NBA in a couple years. But the best part is watching 9 players step up. Go Bucks!!

  • We learned that the Buckeyes can win tournament games even when they're not playing their best ball. And in my opinion, they certainly haven't been playing their best ball.

I have a feeling they might get hot at just the right time in the tournament though and win their next two games. After that, it's Final Four and anything can happen then.

A lot of the ex-perts kept picking Big Ten teams to be upset early. They're 8-1. I don't like Indiana or Wisconsin, but I can root for them if I have to. michigan, on the other hand bit the big one and it was soooo sweet.

  • Great game but we also learned the TOSU has problems with the 2-3 zone defense which brought the Zags back. I sure hope we do not face the Syracuse Zone but rather Wisconsin. Probably getting ahead of myself.

  • If we do get go play Syracuse we will be ready, we will be fired up!!! I hope we play Cincinnati it would be cool to have an all Ohio battle to get to the elite 8 then Wisky because they are a big 10 team!!! But if its Syracuse cool, I want to play in the final 4 so bad. Thad has these guys working hard.....

  • not much of a "basketball guy"...so bare with me...

Tell me why we couldn't use Williams and Sullinger on the court at the same time?

Agreed. Loved seeing Matta use a deeper bench. You don't recruit McDonald's All-Americans to have them sit on the pine!

  • I think we learned that Evan should never put the ball on the deck.

    Hilarious....they still suck.

My buddy lives in Tuscaloosa and was at a BW-3 watching games Friday. He thougth he was the only one rooting against UM. Everyone watching Duke game. After UM loses, he was cheering and heard another guy clapping at the other end of the restaruant, so my buddy stands up and gives him an O-H and the guy responds with an I-O. We are everywhere!!!!! Go Bucks!

  • IMO Craft proved today he is the best point guard in the nation........they just need to close out games better and continue to be aggressive even when they have the lead.....I think the Bucks have a really good shot of getting to New Orleans.......if they continue to play defense like they did today they can beat anyone.......I would not be shocked if the Bucks make it to the Championship game

  • We learned a lot from the last two seasons

For the vast majority of college basketball programs, making it to the Sweet 16 is a big accomplishment. For Ohio State, it’s old news. Certainly nothing worth writing home about. Hell, it’s barely worth firing off an email.

The Buckeyes made the regional semifinals the last two years, but advanced no further. It’s safe to say that a Sweet 16 birth won’t quench the thirst of OSU fans this season. It’s really a Final-Four-or-bust mindset at this point.

Is that fair? Maybe not. But such is life in the world of college basketball where everything boils down to March Madness. Ohio State head coach Thad Matta has won five Big Ten regular season championships in his eight years in Columbus. However, a lot of OSU fans will point to the fact that he’s only guided a team deep into the tournament once. (The 2007 national runners-up.)

So, while no one is taking a win over Gonzaga lightly – especially a game that was so tight for most of the way – the Buckeyes still have a long way to go in order to be satisfied.

Given the history of Ohio State basketball that is a messed up way to look at it.

Michigan (Ann Arbor College) should learn how to beat ''OHIO'' (in Football also) before they even think about beating "THE OHIO STATE BUCKEYES".

    Go Bucks!!!

  • We learned that Ohio State can win and still be effective vs quality teams when Sully is in foul trouble.

  • Coming up to game day, there was a lot of talk (on the Gonzga message board)how their big man Sacre (?)would man-handle Sully. It just didn't happen. Most of these west coast people do not realize what we see in the B10, and how physical it is. They were triple teaming him at some times and he still got 18 points. Their 7 footer only got 8.. Gonzaga was 0-3 to B10 teams this year. They lost twice to the team that Purdue beat in this Tornment, St Marys. They had no answer for Craft and they thought that their freshman guard would -"take Craft to school"-didn't happen....

  • During the tournament, and this is even more pronounced the further along you advance, each game simply comes down to which team can get the most out of each offensive possession AND who can get the most stops on defense. I can't think of more than 2 other teams in America right now who are better suited to come away on the positive side of the above more so than the Bucks. Incredible defense, rarity of a having an excellent NBA big at center, best perimeter defender in college hoops plus two more future pros on the wing and a young but talented and athletic bench. Those are some pretty good tools to have at your disposal in March. Thad will be VERY hard pressed to find himself better positioned for a Final 4 run than the road that currently presents itself right now. Praying we meet Pissconsin because there is absolutely no way in the world we lose to those snooze jobs two times in a row; especially with a Final 4 birth on the line! Just no way.

  • We learned I am confused why Scott continues to get minutes. I have been waiting for him to do somethin but I see nothing. Why not slide Smith over when Craft needs a breather. He was a PG in HS and has shown decent handles.

Also, Sully needs to let the game come to him and good things will happen. He is forcing things and is getting frustrated. By the way, Williams looked very good.

Craft played amazing, and Thomas is the best scorer on this team by a land slide. Smith rebounds like he is 6'6+. If Sully settles down and Buford remembers how to pass, this team will go far.

  • We learned Scott needs to stay on the bench. Way overrated...couldn't even make White Castle All American!
