What We Learned: Ohio State 29, Purdue 22 (OT)

  • I learned the Big Ten offices have put the word out to the refs: do what you can to help the Buckeyes get a loss. They don't want to deal with the championship game being #2 vs. #3 with The Buckeyes sitting at home with their trophy. I expect to see the calls continue to favor the opponents as the season goes on. I love a conspiracy theory!

  • To me it looked like Brax was grabbed by the pad and slammed down. Am I wrong to think that this type of take down is a horse collar at the very least?

  • I hate Tim effing Brando. What a dickhead.

  • In injury replacement substitution by Kenny Guiton this season, he is 4 of 5 in scoring series after Braxton exits.

It will be interesting but I believe that the passing game will be better under Guiton. ( I hope for a quick return with Braxton but that does not look good) Not to pile on Braxton without knowing his status but he looked like he was sleepwalking today. His mechanics off all game. The WRs were dropping everything but the throws were off. Guiton looks like he puts more touch on his throws and reads the defenses better but you can really see the difference in arm strength (Braxton>Guiton). In all fairness to Braxton he had this team back as they were driving when he got hurt.

I was so pumped when he finally broke off that long run and that bitch of a defender horse collared his ass. I was so pissed! Then, the same defender did the same thing to Carlos Hyde. Dick.

  • Even though a punctured lung would suck it's way better than snapped vertebrae or a spine injury....let's hope for the best. The D played a little better today but still nothing to write home about except for the last Purdue drive in regulation and all of OT.

    GO Brax!
    GO Bucks!

  • How'd we learn we won't go 12-0 when we've already "learned" that every other week... And are still undefeated?

  • first off, i'm proud of the boys. they played the most piss-poor game they could possibly play, and stil won. as mentioned earlier it shows a lot of heart.
second, i'm not worried about 12-0. forget that crap. i'm more concerned with them going 1-0 next weekend, and the weekend after that etc. after 13 weeks, we'll add up the 1-0's and 0-1's and go from there. i think they have surpassed all expectations thus far.
    go bucks!!!!

  • I learned more negative than positive today. But, that is because the biggest negative was Miller's Injury. The Defense actually played pretty well, although they still need to be more aggressive and cover the receivers a the LOS. Another positive was Guiton. He actually sees the receivers better than Miller and found guys whom Miller does not normally look for. Fields was a big positive. He needs to get more PT. Boren was very good and Shazier was excellent.

  • Really disappointing. The team is really regressing. Still no sacks again today. Where is Simon, Hankins, Williams.....someone needs to step up and make a play.

  • well, you are admitting the big ten is terrible, so who's to say "we" aren't the best terrible team in the conference? I still think 12-0 is a possibility. Never thought is was likely but why be a negative nancy now? This is an OSU site!! lol you don't have to pretend you work for SI or anything.

  • This was a exciting football game. It had all the drama at the end that any fan (with a sound heart) could want. That said, the injuries are awfully hard to take, and many thoughts and best wishes go out to those leaving the field in pain. BTW, it's HIPAA, not HIPPA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act). Common enough mistake and not quibbling here, but just for going forward. Finally, it really is worth reflecting, as I'm sure the Bucknuts staff will when they begin to look at the greater picture: What makes a team completely stripped down of time and torn in several areas of impact talent, turn and then force its will on the other squad as what happened in the last minute and into OT? What inner strength plays out like we saw on today's field? Did the coaches, the fans, or some even more internal just come out in a collective wave? Whatever the hell it was -- wow.

Really... This entire article is negative. The honeymoon? Give me a break. I thought this was a 3-4loss team coming into the season. The big ten just happens to be terrible this year. Meyer does not have the talent on either side of the ball that he wants yet. I more excited about this ending than any other game. The team really stuck together and won a tough game.

Agree. Biddle sometimes makes little or no sense and speakes from emotion and exaggeration. When KG comes into a game, usually when Miller is down, he leads the team to a score. Given the chance with this offensive line and non-conservative play calling, he can be successful and will be. He and the TBs are no slouch running the ball either. Should Miller not be able to go, KG can lead this team past PSU and the others. Have faith Dave, after all we have the best coach in college FB according to you. The honeymoon is alive and well and the heck with the frontfunners who paid $70 and left early. Give up your tix for people who are true fans.

  • The ESPN broadcast of the game showed an ambulance pulled up outside the Ohio State locker room. Miller was then loaded into the ambulance on a gurney before being taken to a nearby hospital.

The good news for Ohio State is that Miller is all right. Ohio State associate athletic director Dan Wallenberg tweeted on Saturday afternoon that Miller was "symptom free" after being examined by doctors, and would be released on Saturday.

  • Any news about Miller?

  • OSU should have lost at home to Purdue. There were some positives to take out of this game as I outlined in the story (Kenny G, Chris Fields, Ryan Shazier, a "Never Say Die" attitude). But if you wanted me to paint a rosy picture, sorry, I have to call 'em as I see 'em. They should have lost today -- I'm thrilled they didn't -- and a loss is coming down the pike eventually. I hope I'm wrong. This is an extremely-flawed football team. Almost lost at home to a Purdue team that was completely embarrassed in West Lafayette the last two weeks by Michigan and Wisconsin (two teams that will give OSU fits). Also, OSU had the "revenge factor" going for them and still came out flat as hell. Very disappointing overall. However, I'm happy to get the win. Hopefully they can prove me wrong and win these final four games and finish 12-0. Bucks are two-thirds of the way there.

I think anyone who has followed my writing over the years knows this to be true: I don't try and act all rosy; I don't try and act negative. I'm a straight-shooter. I want the Buckeyes to do well (grew up a diehard fan) but you'll never see political-correctness in my stories. At least I hope not.

Yes. He's fine. Concussed, but no long-term issues.
