What We Learned: Ohio State 29, Purdue 22 (OT)

Agree. Biddle sometimes makes little or no sense and speakes from emotion and exaggeration. When KG comes into a game, usually when Miller is down, he leads the team to a score. Given the chance with this offensive line and non-conservative play calling, he can be successful and will be. He and the TBs are no slouch running the ball either. Should Miller not be able to go, KG can lead this team past PSU and the others. Have faith Dave, after all we have the best coach in college FB according to you. The honeymoon is alive and well and the heck with the frontfunners who paid $70 and left early. Give up your tix for people who are true fans.

This post makes little sense -- likely because you are speaking from emotion and exaggeration. Kenny G was lauded in the story, so what the hell are you alluding to there? Who said anything about the RBs being "slouches"? I said it was another good day for the RBs.

And when did I say Meyer was the best coach in college football? I think he's definitely top 3. But don't just make stuff up.

    C'mon man!

  • Nobody at Bucknuts has any idea how OSU will turn out. You haven"t been right about anything else so why are you now. You guys all had this game as a blowout. Guess what? That's why they play them.

Nope, I had Purdue covering the spread. Nice try though.

  • This is a game they would have lost last year. It's these types of games that build character and bring a team together. If ever there was a game where they had to overcome obstacles, this was it. Hopefully Braxton comes back fine and we can keep rolling!

  • I agree completely about the officiating. Two weeks in a row with that crap.

Yeah, it was atrocious. I usually don't like writing about poor officiating, but it was so bad that I had to include it.

So, in Ohio State's defense, one of the reasons Purdue almost won was because the officials were a complete joke.

  • Great teams are determined by the great plays they make not by how they look in a beauty contest. Tim Brando is a jackass for the comments about 2002. OSU beat all comers. It doesn't matter by how many points. If this team goes undefeated the only reason they won't go down as a great team is because they can't play for a championship. Thank God it's determined on the field not by a bunch of talking heads.

    Buck71

  • The spread constituted pretty much of a blowout. Nice try though.

I'm not sure where all this vitriol is coming from. How could any honest journalist not point out the glaring inadequacies with this team? I live and die every Saturday and will never give up on a game or my beloved buckeyes but we all need to see it for what it is....a hard fought win against a bad team.

I don't fault Dave for honest evaluation. The fact is, the game was difficult to watch for 59 minutes and heaven on earth for :44 seconds.

Am I a lunatic to think about a conspiracy involving the BCS and the powers that be wanting to avoid the public relations nightmare that would inevitably come from this team going undefeated? Man, there have been SO MANY bad calls against us! I know it sounds unreasonable but it has been so bad it almost can't be an accident can it?!

  • I thought this was a great game for the defense. They had one drive that they got worked with the screen. Other than that, our defense was stout the whole game. They finished off by forcing purdue to punt on their last 3 posessions an then came on fire in the over time. This could be the game they look back on as where they found their identity. They had to overcome 4 turn overs this game.

We are both atheists. When you understand why you dismiss all the other possible gods, you will understand why I dismiss yours

I agree. Other than the first play -- where they brought pressure and almost got the QB before he threw -- the defense locked it down for the most part. Purdue's only other TD was on a kickoff return.

Course, Michigan and Wisconsin locked down Purdue too. So, locking down Purdue isn't anything to write home about.

  • OSU's Defense was not the cause of this near loss. That unit did give up the first play TD, but aside from the long drive later in the game, they were OK, not great, but OK. LF still needs to get the DBs up at the LOS to prevent the many behind the line completions and other short passes. Also, I hardly ever see our LBs, Safeties or CBs blitzing. Seems like we play reative defense instead of aggressive D.

But, once again, this near loss was on the special teams and the offense. I do not understand why we go up tempo so infreqently. Our O performs so much better when we just go and not stand around waiting for a call from the sidelines.

Sorry to see Miller get hurt and I hope he is Ok. But, it was great to see Guiton come in there and do the job. Also, Fields. We do have some talent and we just need to figure out how to use it.

    Tim Donaghy has no comment.

(Seriously, I don't think anyone is on the take or it's a conspiracy. I chalk today's performance by the officials up to "incompetence.")

Personally your insistence on bashing last year's decisions are really getting old. Actually the "D" made strides today. I guess you feel you have to lead the charge against the Defensive coaches. You report like we are 0-8.

Not following you in the least. The defensive coaches were not mentioned in the story. You lost or something? If anything, I think the defense did a good job, as I said in this thread. Not sure where you are getting anything about the "defensive coaches" in this story.

Also, it's completely ridiculous that Guiton was not the backup QB last year. I don't care if he was immature, he was still better than Bauserman. I saw it first hand in practices. This was the most we've seen Guiton play and it reminded me how absurd it was that this young man didn't even see the field last year while the previous staff played Bauserman instead. Sorry to go waaaaay back in time on you like that. You know, last year.

Ok but I'll reserve judgment. If this nonsense keeps up, I'm gonna have Oliver Stone make a movie about it.

  • Terrible broadcast by ABC. The missed the snap on at least four or five playsl. They kept showing close ups between downs of coaches, assistant coaches, other players etc. instead of setting up the next play and letting us see what was happening on the field. Then some of the shots were too close to see the yard markers. Worst of all, there were no honey shots in all those close ups.

  • Miller is not concussed. OSU released a statement that he has no head, neck, shoulder or CONCUSSION symptoms.
Urban Meyer was quoted as saying "He'll be fine."
Interested to hear about Philly Brown, who also suffered a head injury.
Also, OSU gave up more than the 83-yard TD, they also gave up a 31-yard TD pass.

We learned Storm should not see the field yet they keep going back to him. Burned badly on first play and we still go back to him?! It has been said enough, but play the young guys Fick, how could they possibly be worse? Thoughts and prayers to Brax! Nice work to Kenny G, smooth.....

that was williams that blew the play.
