What We Learned: PSU 20, OSU 14

Poor coaching, bad offensive line play, Philly with a big drop, Shazier steps up, Buckeyes headed to bottom-of-barrel bowl game ... Dave Biddle has that and more in WWL.

  • This season has been brutal! I feel bad for the coaching staff but the standard is very high and a 6-6 or 7-5 season just doesn't cut it. I can't believe it took an injury to Sweat to put Shazier in the game. He is a beast and is gonna be great for at least two more years. i understand loyalty to the seniors but on the other hand put your best players on the field in a position to make plays! We have been watching this kid all season and he has been flying all over the field whether on special teams or whatever and making plays. He is the only one that I see that has that swagger that can be so infectious to a defense!!

  • However, put it this way: If that Dolphins team had Mike Vick as their QB, safe to say they wouldn’t have run the “Wildcat.” You get my drift?

We don't even understand the concept. Unless you are committed to throwing the ball and we aren't, the wildcat is easy to defend against. Especially in the college game. If we knew this, we would figure out how to defend against it. We have ABSOLUTELY no business wasting precious downs on ignorance.

U put it better than I... When we run wildcat, we might as well be saying "Hey D, I'm gonna take the snap & run the ball! Tackle me!!! PATHETIC...

Agree wtih both comments it is absolutely absurd to run the Wildcat with a running QB as Dave eluded too. We need to take note too when PSU ran it they pulled the tackle, I don't think OSU did any of that. But that would be asking a lot of Bollman to design a play other than a HB dive. What am I thinking.

  • It just drives me nuts that the fans have evaluated the Miller/Bauserman, Smith/Brown, and Shazier/anyone else position battles better than the coaches. That includes the decision to start Underwood at right tackle last week. All the fans were thinking....what???? The coaches have been so stubborn all year sticking with guys who don't perform, and the fans clamor for the backup - and they finally give them the backup and show that the fans knew better than they did to begin with.

Normally, I give the coaches the benefit of the doubt - everyone loves the backup quarterback. But in this case, the fans were proven right and the coaches have shown they can't evaluate talent. Hopefully that doesn't also prove true with our incoming freshman next year.

Absolutely no chance at this point. Yes, the Buckeyes are so bad they have "no shot" at the Insight.com Bowl.

Urban can't get here fast enough.

  • If its the Motor City Bowl I say we put a "ban" on ourselves prior to Ncaa penalties. I know we need the practice but going up north to face (and possibly lose) to a MAC team in the heart of Wolverine territory would be unbearable.

I really don't want to go to a bowl....I don't want this staff having any more time with the players, or having anything that will slow-down the turnover to a new staff. I don't see the gain with another month of the BS that has ensued with this team....it's not like there's a single thread of evidence, in any facet of the game, that shows improvement.

  • I would fully support Luke Fickell if he decided to finally show some emotion and take a swing at anyone during a bowl game. It's been that kind of year--disappointment from top to bottom.

  • If we get more practice and it's not run by Urb then no way we need Bollman screwing us more on his way out the door.

  • Is it the 2012 season yet?? Not much more I could add to this discussion. It's pretty much all been covered. Defense was laughable, offense stinks, and coaching was deplorable. Not one positive to take away from this game with the exception of the play of Shazier. He is a beast.

I am with you Bro. We don't need this staff doing anything else as soon as the whistle sounds next Saturday afternoon.
