What We Learned:OSU 70, Nebraska 44

Ohio State opened Big Ten play with a commanding 70-44 win over visiting Nebraska Wednesday night. Deshaun Thomas (22 points) and Lenzelle Smith Jr. (17) led the Buckeyes.

  • Craft appears to have ZERO confidence shooting, his three ball looked awkward and ugly, it sure appears he is thinking too much.Hope he gets his confidence back, we are gonna need him to score from the perimeter and off the dribble, but definitely to help open things up. LSJ and the rest are also proven inconsistent shooters.

  • I learned that Neb is in for another long year in the Big10. On the good side, we need to recruit the next Aaron Craft. Love to watch him play at both ends. Lenzelle is quietly having a good season too. He came on late last year and picked up where he left off.

We are trying a new coverage approach. We will have WWL by either dave or myself after every game. If Dave is doing WWL, I will stick with just doing the game story. When he isn't available to do it, I will combine both in one story.

  • The biggest keys to the season are how much better Amir Williams and LaQuinton Ross get through the rest of season. They are the X factors that could make the Buckeyes really great versus good. Go Bucks !

  • Good start to the B1G Ten conf. play with win over Nebraska, when are we going to practice free throws, it could cost us a game or two!

Absolutely! It looked for a while like all players were hitting higher FT percentages. Last two games, not so much.

  • We learned that Amir Williams is, indeed, improving every game and will be a very effective big Man.

We learned that we have to take the ball inside to have an effective offense and that when we do that we are very effective and our 3 point shooting improves.

We learned that Ravenal is most effective when he comes off the bench.

We learned again that Ross will be a big time player if given enough PT.

We learned that McDonald is going to be a very good back-up big Man if given enough PT.

We learned again that we have two very good point guards in Craft and Scott. But, one of them has to learn how to hit some outside shots so they can play together.

  • We learned Nebraska is not a good basketball team and doesn't have a lot of talent. If today is any indication then they are in for a VERY long season. They might be the worst team in the conference.

  • Craft pushes his shot, doesn't shot it. He need to go back to the basics get his legs working on his shot. Every shot starts with your legs he uses all arms. Bottom line is he lacks confidence and his forms stinks so he won't get better without changing thing around and it may be too late this season to "become" a good to average shooter.

My coach always said start under the basket if your in a slump. Drive Craft drive. Drive to the hoop, shoot some bunnies, then a 8-10 ft'r then the three. Work in and then out plus driving to the hoop is either going to get fouls, dishing off for easy jams by the others or kicki it out for 3's. Lots of good things happen

I know Craft has to be working on his shot...keep working brother..we are all supporting you

  • I learned that the Nebraska program reeks and that we we still can't shoot free throws---so nothing new !

Well its a good thing we have a great shot coach in Jent.....let's hope he continues to work with Craft. Kid still balls even though he can't hit water falling out of a boat right now...I know he will improve. Kid is too tough not to.

  • For those to young to remember the Boston Celtics won a half dozen title with KC Jones at the point and he never averaged 10 points a game.

  • Amir seems to be coming around now that he's gotten more PT... and thats good to see. There are still times when he's in good position to grab an offensive board and he just doesn't go after it or he'll get the ball right under the basket and go up and try to lay it in. Son, your 6'11'', dunk the flippin thing.

I kinda like Della Valle get some more PT. He's a weapon from 3, but as with pretty much everyone on the team sans DT (mostly) he's streaky.

I thought Craft had a pretty good game. He made quite a few hustle plays that don't show up in the stats.

Still not sure what to think of this team. I don't think they are the 8th best team in the country, but that might go without saying. A win at Illinois would huge.

  • Amir with 8 points, 7 rebounds, 4 blocks, and 2 steals in 18 minutes - granted weak competition, but still efficient and effective.

    More minutes please.
