What is the difference between this year's defensive unit and last year's? I know the end result ... we're giving up way more yards and points this year ... but don't we basically have the same players? Our DLs are stronger and more experienced. Our DBs are more mature and experienced. It's the LBs. They don't plug the holes and they can't cover backs out of the backfield or break up the screens. I know ... no big revelation. The sad part id there is no answer to us improving. We could put in freshmen but if they aren't getting it in practice, they'll just be running around in the game. I'm sure Meyer wishes he didn't have to put Boren in as MLB, but the truth of the matter is he has no choice. If you've taped the games, watch when Grant is in as LB. He has no clue. He isn't even making tackles 5-10 yards down field. It's sad when players are in there who shouldn't be. Trying to give the "other" Grant some playing time at DB and see what happens? It wasn't pretty. The opposition picked on him right away and they marched right down the field at his expense. As soon as our offense has an off day, the outcome isn't going to be pretty ... and it could happen with anyone, even Illinois.
