Sorry Ive only been following ESPN, Yahoo, CBS, etc so I have no idea what S. Carolina did. I can tell you intimate details about what happened at OSU, however.

Knowing and proving is two different things. Until there is proof or admission that they knew i think what JT did is worse. JT didn't do the right thing and has admitted as such. It's that simple for me. Is he taking the fall (maybe) is something we may never know. What i don't get is that our kids sold stuff for approx 500 to 2000 and miss six gmaes yet the Miami kids took more money and got less of a punishment. NCAA what a joke!

SC sounds alot worse. Doesn't SC compliance have to monitor players living arrangements! This is a total joke, however I don't think ESPN, Yahoo, CBS, SI,...will send anyone to camp out in Columbia for a year to investigate. The real USC got hammered because the NCAA said they should have known what was going on. Why isn't this the same?

I feel like people are saying SC didn't knowingly hide or lie. They are acting like they have reported through compliance and it is like they thought this was ok or something.
I read the thread you started on the Blue Board. SC fans are saying the number is overstated due to NCAA policy. We can say the same about OSU as well.

South Carolina's former compliance director Jennifer Stiles had said the hotel rate was comparable to other available off-campus housing. The NCAA called her assessment "flawed" in correspondence from 2010 and said the school should've compared with rates given others who stayed at the Whitney long term.
"Had this good faith error in judgment not occurred, the university believes the violations in allegation one would have been minimized," South Carolina said in its NCAA response.

This is why the SC case is not as bad as it seems if you don't look more closely at it than just the headline. The compliance officer just screwed up. She figured athletes can get lodging around town for $15 a night so this was no biggie. She should have realized that you can't compare the rates they were given to what they could get elsewhere, but rather to what any non-athlete would pay.
Either way, it is far from USC trying to cheat the system. This gave them no competitive advantage.
In my mind, not a big deal. But I also thought tOSU's wasn't as big a deal as the media made it out to be. Biggest difference is JT tried to cover up the issue and as we all know the coverup is what gets you taken down.

A lot of SC fans are saying what their school did wasn't wrong and not that bad. IMO I think what SC did is was way worse. The NCAA charged them with receiving a total of 55k of impermissible benefits. 47k of it was from the Whitney Hotel and another 8k was from the SAM foundation. I see them getting it bad....let me know
