While The B1G Burns

The People's Champ thought the conference had hit rock bottom. He's reconsidering that notion ...

  • Right as always Bax.

It's not an issue of revenue, it's an issue of priorities.

Fielding a winning product is simply not the primary concern of many of the B1G's institutions. That myopic approach infects these coaching staffs who are content to recruit from their offices and stick with the 'good ol boy' system of assistant coach hiring.

  • Absolutely right on. The SEC does have certain advantages in over signing and the ability to retain more football profit due to the lack of Olympic programs but as you accurately pointed out, the coaching salaries and hires in this league are the reason the play continues to deteriorate. From a contrast standpoint, look at the basketball hires in the last ten years. OSU hired Williams and Matta (bad judgment in the Ayers hire), IU hired Sampson and Crean, Minnesota hired Tubby, tsun hired Beilein. All of those guys had a track record before they came, in football most of the other schools will hire any coach who has a career record above .500 even if he only has one year of coaching experience at any level

  • It's interesting to me that the programs are allowing themselves to do this let alone the alumni and fanbases.

I ready somewhere that some states have laws in place with how much you're allowed to pay them but even if that's the case you would think they could find a loophole somewhere to make up for it.

  • Northwestern has new facility on its way ...

Purdue is spending more $ on staff than ever before ...

Teams agreed to stop scheduling lower tier games ...

I.U has best recruiting class in 10 years ...

finally - going forward schools have agreed to reinvest in the programs w/ commitment ....( this I heard from TOS guru ...schools will have to show this is being done to the conference )

Expansion and growth $$$ still exceeding all others ..

Just looking for positives to throw in

  • i don't think having a weak b10 is a big deal as long as we can beat the perceived best team in the bowl games. if we get to 24-0 we won't be kept out of the big game

A lot of you keep reciting this mantra as if it was absolutely true. Don't be so sure of getting into the championship game just because we are 25-0. It could very be false because of the perceptions of many about the weakness of the B1G.

winning games like the02 team would be problematic i suppose. should we play as the coaches hope we will then i am not worried about being shut out of the ncg

  • BTW Bax you no longer need to waste the characters to completely type out Appalachian State when referring to A Southern Michigan University's conquerors. They no longer differentiate between OSU and Ohio U, since most likely they are going to lose to either (or any, see: Toledo) of those "Ohio" institutions regardless of the sport involved. They, and you, can simply refer to their vanquishers as Ohio, Appalachian, and now of course, Penn.

At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought.

  • These teams will get it when Urban and the Buckeyes destroy them in games. I always thought it was stupid to split the bowl revenue between the schools. Ohio State and the other bowl eligible team got there threw hard work, coaching and overall talent. You should not have to reward anyone just because they are part of your conference and split your bowl proceeds equally 12 different ways.

I agree with this completely. If we go undefeated against a crap schedule with 2 a scare against purdue and indiana and mostly single digit victories, we could easily get passed over. If the B1G has another awful OOC run, Urban better tell the boys to put the pedal to the medal and destroy some teams. We will need big margins of victory.

  • If anything keeps us out the The National Championship Game it will be the coaches vote. That still counts and there are some coaches that will not vote fairly for TOSU,and you know who they are the same ones that put the screws to Urb last season. And I would still take any of the three pieces of crap above over The Joke of Whoreville, any day.He is still the biggest disgrace to The Li'l Eleven out there.GO BUCKS!

Bax didn't bring Bollman back into the spotlight, Dantonio did. Bax was just pointing out the obvious...... in case you weren't aware of it.
