Who of You Will Stay On The Bandwagon?

  • If you know me, I'm just as loyal to the the basketball team as the football team.

Matta has earned my support and interest and I'm mature enough to know that there isn't a magic wand to ensure heartache will never happen.

I don't think I missed a single game this year or last year and I watch with an intensity that most people have for football.I post about basketball, I lay in bed thinking about basketball, I wish Lexco44 made basketball videos, etc, etc.

This year, similar to most years, we had a spike in fans in March. That's not unique to us.

My question is who among you think you'll stick around and not check out until the meat of Big Ten Play?

We got a good thing going here and fan support is a big part of that. It remains to be seen what the long term trajectory is of OSU basketball and I'd implore anyone regardless of how shitty Saturday was to man up and be ready to suppor this team 8 months from now.

  • They lost...it happens. That was a good team that fought hard. It wasn't as good a team as last year but they played great. Bandwagon? please. I support the Buckeyes 100% and am happy with what Thad Matta has done with the program. It is lightyears ahead of the O'Brian era.

    Go Bucks!

  • I'm definitely a supporter!! Matta is a good coach and I think it will be fun watching our young players mature next season, no matter the outcome!...Go Bucks!!

I think there are alot of us that live and die with both sports I find myself even watching all the sports or reading up on ... I'm that way my brother is that way, my nephews are that way ... Alot of people have the same love and intensity for both sports. My first hero's were Alan Horniak in basketball and jack Tatum in football, I loved Rex Kern too!!! I think our football & Basketball programs have never bin better besides last year in football Tressel & Matta and Now Urban it's a Blessing. I used to cheer for Bobby Night because he was a Buckeye the same with Hondo & Jerry Lucas I still follow Jimmy CLEMONS ANOTHER HERO!!! whom is an assistant coach. With Phil Jacksons teams Bulls and Lakers ... I hated Dave Winfield for years because he played basketball for Minnesota and they jumped Luke Witte .. Wether I was doing good or bad the one thing I have had in my life is Ohio State football & Basketball ..... For me I cant even explain it how much I Love them.. my Daughters go to USC AND I'M SO PROUD BUT I'M A BUCKEYE FANATIC!!! I live in LA & Honestly I wear Ohio State gear 4-5 times a week.. I just received 8 New Shirts and shorts.. I give Buckeye shirts to the homless sometimes .... oh well buddy were going to be fine next year will be fun & if Sully & Thomas come back Its all ours baby! !!!

  • At my core, I'm a Buckeye football fanatic - it's the only team sport that I follow with true passion, and have for more years than I care to admit. However, I will remain on the BB bandwagon (having been on it for quite some time now as well) and have a tremendous amount of respect for Matta and the team. I thought the 4-point swing at the end of the half did not bode well for OSU, and I turned out to be right (sadly), but this season was incredible - I loved how OSU had games with Duke, KU, and Florida, as well as the always-tough B1G schedule. They seemed to peak at the right time (in the tourney), and as the tourney progressed, I truly believed they had a good chance to end up in tonight's NC game - they just couldn't fend off a very tough team. Personally, I think KU can beat Kentucky if Robinson plays big (that dude is definitely a MAN!). The KU loss was a tough one, but I'll be pulling for them tonight - if for no other reason than I just don't need to see another SEC champion, period.

If your goal was to identify bball bandwagon fans, I might be your guy Benny.

I have been and will always be an OSU cfb fanatic. To me, bball is always really a distant afterthought until after NLOID (and before Spring Football). Do I pay more attention when the bballers are good...sure. IMHO, that has more to do with media focus and buzz among other fans that it does with my interest.

No I'm not saying I equate bball with all the other sports at OSU. Men's bball is a solid (but distant) second place among my OSU sports fandom. Unlike some folks I really know next to nothing and could care less about OSU soccer, tennis, gymnastics, baseball, etc., etc., etc. I wish them well, but they just don't move my give-a-damn meter.

Am I proud of this year's bball team...you bet. Did they exceed my expectations...yep. Am I disappointed that they lost Saturday...sure. However, did I move on Sunday when Elliott committed...without a shadow of a doubt.

I hope they do well next year and I'll keep a casual eye on them. However, when I think of my alma mater, it's all football for me baby.

That all said, I wish all you bball fanatics well and hope you find consolation and get good news soon.

  • I'll be watching next season! My expectations are going to be much lower with Sully leaving though. If Thomas comes back, I'll have a little more confidence in us going forward but if both leave then I expect us to be a bubble team. Its hard to replace your top 3 scorers when everyone off the bench is scared to shoot when they get into the game. It'll be hard to watch next season lol

  • What's funny is (some) people are acting like the Bucks lost in the second round. Going to the Final Four is a hell of an accomplishment and all of us would have taken that in a heartbeat before the tournament. It just stings because the Kansas game was seemingly in the bag and OSU lost. Jayhawks only led for 2-3 minutes the entire game but walked away with a W. It still hurts.

But I won't let that erase what was a great basketball season. Thad's 5th Big Ten regular-season title in 8 years as OSU's head coach (which is an amazing statistic) and his second Final Four. That's getting it done and then some. Comparing basketball to football is a losing battle in Columbus and always will. However, there's more than enough room for the basketball Bucks too. What else are people going to do here in the winter, go see the Blue Jackets play? HAHAHA. You see what I did there? The Blue Jackets? The CBJ? You mean they haven't moved to Canada yet?

  • A huge fan of Buckeye Basketball. Matta has done an incredible job since taking over the program. He builds great teams, but more importantly he builds character. It has been a pleasure to watch this team grow through the year.

Last weekend was extremely exciting to watch. Saturday, it was heart wrenching to watch those guys lose in the final 2 minutes after leading most of the game. Collectively, Buckeye Nation should thank these guys for what they brought us this year and show a little compassion for how they must feel about this loss.

Will I watch them? Am I still on the bandwagon? Hell yes!!!

If you guys are reading these posts, THANK YOU for a great year. You should be very proud of what you accomplished this year.

  • I'll own up to being a definate BB bandwagon fan. I've been to a couple of games while I was going to OSU during the regular season, and had a blast at them. But, I only loosely follow them until it comes to Tourney time. I always wish them well and more power to you guys that follow them, but I just never really got into basketball.

We are both atheists. When you understand why you dismiss all the other possible gods, you will understand why I dismiss yours

  • How can you NOT stay on the bandwagon. Matta has single-handily turned this program around. I just hope he gets his NC to cement his status as greatest OSU hoops coach ever.
