I'm thrilled that the corruption has been exposed. I work with and am responsible for kids professionally, and to see how someone can abuse the trust parents give people like me is appalling.
At the same time, I'm mostly interested in exposing the culture of a top heavy power structure like this. Allowing someone to amass the kind of power JoePa and the program had without being accountable is the real danger. There will always be sick people out there, the key is to not allow an environment of enablers. If it weren't for the football first power hungry administration, with its authority concentrated in Paterno, how many molestations wouldn't have happened? The first sign of wrong doing would have sprung a closer look, which would have uncovered enough to blow the lid on Sandusky.
I am also very happy to see that outside of the cult formed around Paterno the rest of the nation is reacting appropriately. The vilification of those responsible isn't only justified, but important. When people come out of the woodwork to condemn what has happened it reaffirms in everyone's mind how little tolerance our society has for any of this. The next time a coach tries to boss an administration around, that administration will think twice. The next time a scandal like this comes across an administrators desk, they won't think twice about reporting it.
Even if a lot of people are just jumping on the band wagon of slamming Penn State, ultimately I believe it's a great thing. Whatever it takes to ensure easily preventable abuse like this is a positive.

he wouldn't let his players pose in the Playboy All-American magazine edition, he said, "Cause you can't play football with an erection."
I don't agree with those who say this wasn't about gaining a competitive advantage. Paterno, Spanier, etc. knew if this came out it would decimate the football program. So they concealed Sandusky's crimes. That was the calculus. It worked for a long time, too, but ultimately, the truth came out and now they are screwed. I'm sure I don't have to tell anyone on this board that the coverup is worse than the crime. Anyone who thinks there should be pity on the football team should remember that smug letter Mike McQueary sent out to recruits during tatoogate about how PSU has never been investigated and that they win with honor. Gross.
