Ok, like many of you I played football too. At EVERY level I played at we would scrimmage another team before the season. Now, I did not play Div 1. I played Dlll at Wooster, but even then we scrimmaged (Ashland & Grove City) before our season. In Jr high, high school, shoot even pee wee we would scrimmage another team. Why don't D1 schools do it? Now I hear the argument: "our first team O against our first team D....doesn't get any harder than that". I guess my argument is that there is no duplicating the "INTENSITY" of playing another team...even if it is a scrimmage. I remember in HS we scrimmaged Akron St V/St Mary and we were going at it. You know how the scrimmages work and working on specifics, i.e. punt, kick off and the return game, extra points, goal line O & D, red zone O & D? Plus, I think it would give you a better look at some of your back ups. I know there are no better players than our own, but again...the intensity is the issue. I'm not saying you have to play a full out game for 3 hrs. I also think because of our proximity we could tap into some schools...like Kent State, Ohio U. Thought I would throw it out there and see.
