The Front Row

I Remember it well. It was September 26th 1987. The 7th ranked Buckeyes were playing a game with LSU at Baton Rouge . I had to see the game....unfortunately that same day was my Mother and Father-In-Laws 50th Anniversary and party for that event. It was scheduled for 1pm.(right at game time).
The church where they had the party had a small room that the janitor worked out of and he had the game on a 12 inch black and white TV. Duh..that's all I needed....needless to say I spent THEIR wonderfull party day and anniversary occassion running back and forth to see snatches of the game, instead of spending time at our family table with my family and the honorees.
I was back at the small TV when the Buckeyes scored the "go-ahead" TV wiht 11 minutes left in the 4th quarter and went ahead 13-10, Just as I rushed back to the banquet table, it was my turn to say a word of congradulations to the "bride and groom" after 50 wonderfull years as I was handed the mic and be recorded on the video for the event. What did I say>. Full of excitment of the go ahead TV I yelled into the mic and camera, "Go Bucks"!! I thought my wife would die of embarassment and I should have, but giving to the excitment of the ball game I did not, at least not until I saw the video later.....I looked like a total horses-azz..and probably deserved the critizim....the good news was that my Mother and Father-in -law forgave me, knowing my love for the Buckeyes! The Buckeyes went on to a 13-13 tie in that game...looking back the over the years and both of my wifes parents being gone now, and my wife and I just a few days from our 50th, I just can't believe I made a fool like that out of myself....anyway GO Bucks...ha ha..
