I've been following recruiting since Coach Tressel took over for Coach Cooper. I thought it would be interesting those players who you thought would be great, but never turned out. Here are a few of mine:
Mike D'Andrea--I remember how obsessed everyone was over his recruitment. Everyone thought he was going to be one of the greats. Ironically enough, it was fellow 2002 recruit AJ Hawk who would add to TOSU's LB lore. Injuries derailed his career.
Louis Irizarry--Long recruitment. Went from TOSU lock to surprising Miami verbal before signing with TOSU. He was suppose to be the transformational TE. Similar to how it never worked out for Irizarry (off field legal problems), TEs never became more than blockers in the Tressel era.
Jamario O'Neal--Was offered as a sophomore and I believe was a verbal early his junior year. He did end up contributing a little bit, but never came close to the hype.
Eugene Clifford--Was our top recruit in 2007. Thought he would be the one to change around our safety recruiting. Loved his weed more than his football and eventually left the program.
Dorian Bell--Continually had off the field issues that led to suspensions. So much talent in HS. Perhaps he makes a mark after transferring, but I will not hold my breath.
David Durham--Why is Durham on my list? This is my personal miss. Although Durham was not highly rated, It thought he would be a monster at DE. Never saw the field on defense and was switched to FB. May make an impact there after transferring from TOSU, but he will always be a big miss from what my expectations were for him.
There are so many others out there, but I'd like to hear some of yours.
