not strong enough, immature....Not with Urban in the WHAC

  • Man it kills me to see the buckeyes bringing "their best" to the combine and it is a far cry from what it should be. (slow 40 times, poor pass blocking, and immature!!! come on Buckeyes you represent more than just yourself. You represent a tradition that hadn't lost 7 games since 1897)
    When the guys that are killing themselves at the WHAC right now get their shot, it will be what it should be, a show. I cant wait for the talent we have recruited to be unleashed. I have been going crazy for ten years watching talent underdeveloped and underutilized. When Simons hits the combines people are going to freak... strength records will be broken. That is the kind of statement that should come from our players at the combines, the NFL will be our grad school!!!! Make it happen Buckeyes show the world what FEAR is when the big dog gets off the chain!!!!!!!!!
    Your thoughts.....

  • Amen brother! Fucking 19 reps on the bench by a 300lb man is embarrassing. adams was outbenched by like five WR at the combine.

    fritz_jones

  • Yeah that was a direct reflection on the other staff and s & c coach. Also it says alot about the company he has been training with since the sr bowl. You can never forget the player also.

    Geez, you must run a pretty fast 40. What round were you drafted in? Or maybe you are an overachiever in another field?

  • Not sure what your saying, "I have been going crazy for ten years watching talent underdeveloped and underutilized."

    I've been watching players beat Michigan 9 times out of those ten years, winning a National Championship and competing with the best. I guess we've been watching different teams. Can't say I'm not excited about the future either, because I am unbelievably pumped. Evidently I'm a glass half full guy.

    Man in those ten years you had dick rod in there for a majority of them... The entire B1G ran a train on him and that national championship was at beginning of his tenure here and what elite team did we contend with? Cause every other national championship we played in it looked like we were in high school still going up against those SEC teams that were the elite ones... While i will always respect and admire Tress to the fullest.. hes right players were always underdeveloped and the teams always never lived up to their fullest potential, and it sounds like it was from their workout routines...

  • In long coaching tenures there are ups and downs. Respectfully, some seem to forget with our full compliment of players this past season, we contend for a NC. It was the lack of consistent uniform discipline that sank the ship.

    Mickey M will be the difference maker for our program as we move forward. If his passion continues to burn hot and the stud players continue to come to Columbus, the future is so bright we will need sunglasses.

    I don't have to be an investment banker to know Madoff broke the law. I don't have to be an artist to know that my 6 year old daughter's artwork is not quite ready for the Met. I also don't have to run a 4.3 forty or get drafted in the NFL to know if guys appear out of shape or weak at the combine relative to their peers.

    By your same logic no one at Bucknuts should be able to post about football unless they played at tOSU or a similar program. I guess, Mike Leach should quit coaching NCAAF because he never played it.

    I stand corrected, other teams were bad, the coaches were poor, but especially the lazy players that came in 3 star but left NFL players.

    Whodey,the Miami team we beat in Jan 2003 was better than either of the $ec teams we lost to. Dick Rod was only at scum 3 of the 10 years.

    Correct.

    Don't tell me JTs system was crap. tOSU had the best or second-best record in the country over his tenure, _and_ were at the top of the academic APR standings as well. JTs system involved seniors and top players setting the tone and being leaders. Many bought into the system and flourished. Some did not. Pryor and the other Tat 5/7 lost their way, betrayed JTs trust, led their class astray and led to the first 7 loss season in over a century. Some of that is on JT of course, but every coach is dependent on players buying into their system.

    Having said that, I think it is clear that a lack of effort and discipline will not be tolerated at tOSU under the current staff. It seems Urban learned from some of the UF off-field stuff and has set the threshold for termination at a different level to send a clear message. Leaders will still emerge in the Meyer/Marotti system, but slackers will disappear rather than ride the bench. Recruiting their replacements will obviously be more intense than in the past. That's great and I'm excited about it, but I think we can celebrate the new without trashing the past.

    I think that we can contrast the weaknesses of the time tressel was here with some of the strengths of the current staff and not be "trashing" coach tressel, whom I personnaly love. Furthermore the excitement that is viral right now is due to the perceived lack of any observable weakness in the current staff!!! Furthermore I think that as good Midwestern folk we can acknowledge that you can recruit the cream of the crop but you only get butter if you churn it up!!!!! Urban has these young men in the churn... And the result will be oh so delicious!!!!

  • It's very difficult for 6-foot-7 guys with long arms to be good at the bench unless they are naturally strong (which Mike isn't). Shorter guys with shorter arms (like Kudla) will always have a huge advantage when it comes to the bench.That said, it's still inexcusable to go to the combine and only throw up 19 reps on the bench at 225 pounds. Like others have mentioned, this is something that Mike should have been working on during his suspension, after he came back and especially leading up to the combine. You can argue all day that the bench is overrated, but the fact is that it's one of the big measuring sticks at the combine and you need to be ready for it. Mike was never a guy that had much muscle definition, but it would have been nice to see him at least get over the 20 mark.

    Brewster was a big disappointment as a senior. At least Adams was a difference-maker when he came back. Brew had a very substandard season and I'm sure he'd be the first to admit that.

    Also, although he slipped a bit in the 40 and put up a "slow" time of 4.66, don't forget that Boom was second among all running backs in the short shuttle, which shows he has outstanding quickness. Herron also threw up 22 reps on the bench. Hopefully Boom surprises a lot of people and carves out a nice NFL career for himself. He likely won't be drafted until the 6th round or so (if he does get drafted) but I bet he makes an active roster somewhere.

    Posey will be a nice pickup for someone in the third round if he lasts that far. He'll never have great hands, but he'll still be a good value pick in the third round. Big, physical, good speed ... someone's going to give him a chance and take him somewhat early in the draft.

    Predictions:

    * Adams: Early-second round (still think late-first is a possibility, but I'm guessing he'll slide to the very early part of the second round).

    * Posey: Mid-third round.

    * Brewster: Late-fourth round.

    * Herron: Mid-to-late-sixth round.

    Dave Biddle

  • Dave totally stoked that you weighted in on my first thread. I agree with everything you said... I guess I just expect these guys to "do the work". As you said there is no excuse for Adams to not have worked the last 4 years to be stronger than any wide receiver!!!! I hope there is not another year where our "best player" is called immature as a positive, and early second round is the earliest projection of any class we put into the draft!!!
