Smith did look better I think we have a good stable of running backs I would still like to see Hyde get the majority of the carrries

And after the game when he said that the pecking order was Hall, Hyde, Smith, and Dunn, I think that was huge. Because I think the consensus is that Hall will be used as a hybrid and Hyde will be somewhat of the every down back, but if Smith is his backup there, I think there will be carries to be had for Rod if he keeps working hard. Definitely showed signs of improvement.

The only thing holding Rod Smith back is ball security. He was ahead of Hyde for a reason last spring. He was obviously the best running back on the field Saturday.
Smith still has ball security issues because of his running style while carrying a football and point of contact in relation to his body. Eddie George had the same problem, so did Archie Griffin, and it was costly a few times. With Archie it cost us a national title. He fumbled twice inside the USC 10 in the 1975 Rose Bowl and we lost 18-17. I'm not sure if it's correctable. Those two were so good you just lived with it. Not sure if Rod Smith is that much better than his competitors this coaching staff will live with it. Bears watching.

I have always believed in Rod. He is my favorite running back in the group and has the best HS highlight film of all the RB's. I think Rod finally has his swagger back with more confidence. I know he can do it. He has all the tools. All he needs is a 40yd TD scamper with a stiff arm to Roby, and a spin move to avoid Shazier in practice. Just take it to the house Rod.
