sec commish, slive, no playoff games in big ten country.

  • but if they play it in Indy or Detroit, it will be indoors anyways so no advantage gained. Needs to be in NY or Chicago so they can experience some real northern hospitality!

  • This solitifys (sp?) my thoughts on the sec. They cheat and only win so much because they stack the deck in their favor.

The sec is not the best this in itself is admission that they can't beat us on a level playing field.

  • This is more of an economic issue than it is a football issue. Think about how much money these Southern cities make off of these bowl games. Not only that, but it is the same cities over and over again. If I were the Big Ten, I would tell the SEC to go shove it. Why should they be the only region of the country to make money off of these games? Football is an outdoor game played in all kinds of weather, nut just warm sunny weather and domes. Let them come north to any of the BIG schools and play in late December and early January. We have just as much right to economic reward as any of those schools down south.

  • There is already enough politicing going on for rankings without a home or away playoff game laying in the balance as well. If the field was 8, then home games make sense..with 4 teams..like it or not..home games make zero sense.

Overwhelmingly obvious to me that Delaney has little to no power/influence over these people anymore. He's just along for the ride and the paycheck.

I'm OK with all of it...it's better than what was...My sticking point is a big one. There can absolutley be no wiggle room here. Conference champs only. It is so detrimental to this whole process of conference championship games if someone can finish 2nd in the division..sit home and watch TV and back into the playoff like Bama did last year. Deserved or not...it just goes against the 'playoff'' format for two teams of the same conference to make the final four when one plays their way in and the other doesn't.

  • Why would Slive want to come up north. Now he has virtual home games, money drained to the south, doesn't have to deal with weather his teams are afraid of.....

Until somebody with clout starts making noise, we will keep traveling to New Orleans for bowl games.

OSU has been traveling to the Rose Bowl playing west coast teams forever.....the only constant in this is we constantly get screwed.

It makes zero sense because it has no process. It's not like the NFL or any other playoff system that has clear cut rules. The final four will still be 'picked' like a judge picks four dogs out of the lineup at Westminster to be best of show. There is little to no matrix tying one conference to another, one champ to another other than the polls and BCS points system..which is all BS. #1 or #2 are more than likely no more deserving of preferential treatment than #3 or #4...look at the exercise Davein Nerk did with the final fours.

None of what you said has anything to do with homesites.

It has to do with the ranking process.

  • If I had to guess a majority of fans would want to be inside for these games. Maybe not the hardcore football fans, but the common fan. The big ten seems to agree with this by having the big ten championship game indoors.

Lets see, be inside.....or pay for hotel/airfare....

I think I'll roll with saving the cash and being less comfortable.

Those fans that really cant be in the cold can wait and buy airfare/hotel/tickets to the championship game IMO. I mean it works fine in the NFL and thats later into the winter. My guess is that just isnt really a big deal.

  • I'm sorry, but if my teen-aged daughter can play tackle rugby without pads and helmet in snow, sleet, driving cold rain, frozen ground, slimy mud, rock-exposed patches, and even goose dropping-covered fields, without taking herself out of one minute of any game, going face-first into an opposing elbow or getting her nose rearranged at the bottom of a collapsed scrum, and waiving off the ref and medics, I have ABSOLUTELY NO RESPECT for SEC whiners, crybabies and fair-weather fans, players, coaches and administrators. And you wonder why the Patriots took an Ohio State player with far more rugby experience than otherwise to play in the frozen Massachusetts ground. It's long past time for the SEC to man up and come play football as it was meant and designed to be contested. Damn, who here didn't just enjoy good ol' tackle football with only a wool/watchcap for protection on hard, frozen ground, where a blindside hit was like landing from altitude without a 'chute -- and after the game, just loving the holy hell out of the whole thing? Geez, Lee's army couldn't win north of the Mason-Dixon line, and I guess they're either taking that history to heart, or they are just plain wussified. (Rant over)

You're totally off-base dude... how would four conference champs be any different?

There's six BCS leagues now, what about the non-BCS leagues? What about the independents? You going to leave Army out if they go 12-0? Good luck explaining that. You going to leave a MAC school out when they go 12-0?

What have we accomplished then? You still have to pick four teams subjectively regardless of whether its conference champs or not. Might as well subjectively pick the four best teams. Would you rather see 8-4 Syracuse in a playoff instead of 12-0 Ohio St AND 11-1 Wisconsin? I mean, it'd be easy to make it difficult for the second team from a conference to get in just by putting a heavy weight on a head to head game that you lose at home.

As far as campus sites, I think this is the ONLY fair way to do it. Having sites like Indy, Houston, etc "hold" a date just in case isn't feasible. Its not like campus sites don't know how to hold big games. And don't talk to me about hotels, 80% of the fans would be mostly local, while the rest could find hotel rooms easily. They do it in Green Bay on a weeks notice, no reason it can't happen in Boise, Lubbock, or Bloomington (LOL).

I'm totally off base? You're talking about MAC schools, 8-4 conference champs, and others making the top 4. In what world would that happen?

My suggestion is not just pick 4 random conference champs; but make sure the 4 picked at least won their conference(if a memeber of a conference)..which could include a 12-0 Boise, or a 12-0 Independent ND or Army....BUT NOT...an 11-1 Alabama which lost its' last game of the season and got to sit at home knowing it was going to make the NC game regardless. This inclusion renders some championship games useless.

In fact...last years' SEC fiasco probably helped Bama more than anyone realizes. LSU plays a meaningless game vs. Ga. in which they were both flat and totally beat up in the 1st half. The game allowed a blueprint for Bama coaches to follow all the while sitting at home.

This inclusion of a non conference champ wild card could have this play out. OSU goes undefeated and plays an undefeated Michigan the last game of the season. OSU beats Michigan. OSU and Michigan meet a week later in the B1G championship game. Michigan beats OSU. Both end up 11-1 and make the final four and possibly meet again. That's just dumb to have any chance of that happening......regardless of how remote.

If they are willing to pluy in detroit or Indy then how is gthat only playing with a stacked deck? Big Ten fans want it on site because they think that it will give them an advantage. Where playing indoors elimates an advantage for either team outside of proximity.

It won't be on campus. The big ten doesn't want games after 3:30 in November and won't play their conference championship outside so it won't happen here.
