2013 LB/FB Darrien Howard

  • A lot of people have been in the dark or speculating about 2013 bluechip linebacker at Dayton Chaminade Julienne. Howard's team didn't fair too well in the Eagles 1st two games against Miami Valley powers Troy and Thurgood Marshall. The Eagles coaching staff went into danger mode for game 3 and utilized Howard on offense more and he answered with 2 touchdowns, 1 in the air and 1 on the ground. Through game 3
Darrien Howard has over 40 tackles, a INT, 1 caused fumble and recovery and the two touchdowns.

Howard weighed in before the season at 241 lbs with a chip on his shoulder. He's powerful and destroys the double team easily. Good hands and flexible hips for such a big frame. Hands down one of the best football players in the state regardless of division.

  • i read somewhere he was 268 and will probably play with his hand on the ground.

  • Goes to my alma mater, people I talk too say he is tough-nosed player, but reacts just a tad bit slow yet to play at Ohio State's level. He is a big kid though, saw him play a couple times as a freshman and even then he was a big kid. Has a body type with room to grow. Could be a real good one though, possile Boren type fullback is what I would say about him.

  • Darrien Howard finished his junior season with 156 tackles and 13 touchdowns.

In his final game for the season Howard contributed a rushing touchdown and 17 tackles to lead the Eagles.

The Clinton-Massie team made sure to let #47 Darrien Howard of Dayton Chaminade-Julienne know after the game they wanted him to be a Buckeye.

"Howard, a national recruit who lists Ohio State among his final picks, was greeted by a long line of C-M players and coaches afterward. A force throughout the game, he was wished well and told he should make his future home at Columbus." By Marc F. Pendleton, Staff Writer of Dayton Daily News

Howard appreciated the support from the opposing team, both teams showed great sportsmanship.

Sorry. I get that you guys like him but he won't be a Buckeye. LB is not a big 2012 need; Urban will take 2, maybe 3 at the most but the list of guys in front of him is too long and doesn't include Tim Kimbrough and Shane Jones, who both better fit the prototype LB Urban wants.

He seems like a classic MSU recruit, like Moeller's Greg Jones, or maybe Illinois--Beckman will hit Ohio hard.

  • Howard turning heads at linebacker

At the end of last summer, nobody knew where Darrien Howard of Chaminade-Julienne (Dayton, Ohio) would play. Is he a middle linebacker? Defensive end? Maybe even a fullback?

Howard wants to play linebacker, and he turned a lot of people into believers at the NFTC.

During linebacker-versus-running back drills, Howard, a four-star prospect ranked No. 7 nationally among inside linebackers, was among the top players.

A little overweight previously, Howard has been working out with a trainer and now says he is at 242 pounds with the goal of getting to 235 soon. He thinks that will help him remain in the middle instead of being shifted to defensive end.

"I'm watching my weight for one, and getting faster," he said.

One program that wanted to see Howard's physique before extending an offer was Indiana, so the Hoosiers sent a coach to Chaminade-Julienne recently. The visit ended with a scholarship offer.

"It was a defensive coach, and they wanted a defensive coach to come look at me," Howard said.

  • 9. LB Darrien Howard, Dayton (Ohio) Chaminade-Julienne
Howard surprised a lot of people with his performance on Saturday. At 6-1 and at least 255 pounds, he looks like he should be playing along the defensive line. Yet, Howard plays exceptionally light on his feet and was more than capable in the pass-rushing and pass-coverage drills. At times he plays a little top-heavy, but on Saturday he looked a lot more connected with the turf and moved around the field well. Howard will benefit even more from cutting some of the excess weight, but he will always be a big body at the linebacker position.

Although he didn't win the linebacker MVP award at the Nike Football Training Camp in Columbus last Saturday, Darrien Howard put on quite a show. He moved exceptionally well for a player his size, opening some eyes in the process.

  • I think one of the things I like about this young man is his attitude and never giving up. He has a dream and is aiming for it, doing what it takes too get there. Good for him

  • If he loses his extra weight and improves his mobility he could start picking up some big offers. Idk about OSU though unless we miss on everyone else. He could be a really good one though if he keeps up the hard work.

  • I think he's a good player. Everyone complains about his weight but it seems like every time he goes out he exceed expectations. At some point, people are going to have to give him some credit. Besides, wasn't Brandon Spikes a huge, slow linebacker that played for Meyer?
