Anyone watching TSUN spring game?

  • Now before you torch me for asking, as I know most here would rather watch paint dry, I am a big fan of scouting teams' progress. Yes even TSUN. Hell, especially them. Truth is I am exhibiting some unknown degree of football withdraw and If I can support the B1G network while I'm at it, all the better.

Any observations? Our visitors should feel free to respond as well. After all, it seems no one is more informed on it or more critical of it, than their own fans.

If I wasn't stuck in the library I would be watching...I could really use a good laugh right now

From what I'm hearing so far they're having a terrible turnout, weatherman called for rain and it just moved out of Ann Arbor area, they are fair weather fans they have no heart.

Just like last year....Hoke not coaching at all, just watching the other coaches and talking to the refs. He's a joke.
Without Mattison and Robinson they would be nothing.

im watching but i dont know how to feel. its not very impressive but i dont know if thats poor offense or good defense seeing as they are playing themselves. that said the #goblue all over the game annoys the life out of me. one thing is for certain though michigan still doesnt have a kicker that can make anything

    sb144904

  • Yeah im with you, it is a spring game so you can't really tell because they are playing each other and are constantly subbing people in so you never know who is in and when.

    chunkfat8

  • Yeah I sat and watched the whole thing. Like others, I like scouting the rival teams, and just suffering from football withdrawal in general. I'll try to sit down and watch the BTN spring ball report at 9:30pm tonight, also as I haven't watched much with other teams this spring.

Michigan's turnout was worse than awful. Mostly just bleachers. I can't imagine how a recruit could visit that morgue of a stadium and want to go there over Ohio State or another powerhouse program.

Like sb144 said, it's hard to tell which unit is doing well and which one is doing bad -- the scrimmage finished with 4 4th and goal attempts back to back to back to back -- the offense failed each time. They looked like they were pulling a Bollman and just trying to run power up the gut when everyone in the stadium knew it was coming. Finally on the 4th attemps they tried a bootleg rollout with the QB and he was stopped at the 1 yd line, lol.

Denard hardly played. Just the opening drive. He looked fine, but still appeared to struggle a bit with snaps under center. He wasn't the only one, either. Gardner REALLY struggled quite a bit throughout the spring game -- lot of bad center-QB exchanges. Lots of sacks. Couple of picks. They just didn't look impressive really at all. Couple decent runs by the running backs that were more on the defense missing tackles than they were the result of proper offensive execution.

It'll be interesting to see how they do this season without 8 home games and an overall cupcake schedule.

  • I missed the first 30 minutes. Did Velcro even play? I was surprised their OL didn't play better, especially Lewan. He was a 2nd Team All B1G last year and has been projected by some draftniks as a possible 1st round draft pick if he goes hardship. All in all, it was pretty uninspired, little more than a glorified practice that was open to the public. This is what you get with offense versus defense spring games. That's why I'm excited by Urban's decision to have a draft and follow a real game format. I think scUM has some work to do.

Ahh thanks Chad, I don't get the channel.

I figured some of the other spring games would be on today on other stations but nada. I'll just have to watch the Yanks. Swishy is smoking it up this spring. They almost didn't resign him last year after his pathetic post season meltdowns, but glad they did.

I always wonder about this. I'm not saying every coach is a 'headset' guy, but it's odd that even during some games I don't see them really doing what seems like actual 'coaching'. Not a dig on him, or Paterno, because they obviously do some coaching.

If you really wanna check it out, someone will undoubtedly cut the junk out of it and post up a play-by-play on Youtube.

You can tell he is NOT comfortable taking snaps under center. They'll do what they did last year with him and go right back to running a RichRod Spread with him. Only way he seems to do well.

  • Just seen a tweet from Fuller, DB out of Maryland, saying that the scUM fans are crazy! What fans, that stadium looked like a ghost town.

Great question. Must not have seen what a real spring game looks like at a top college program.
