  • there's a thread on the pay board about whether or not this season is a success for the basketball team. the answers are overwhelmingly YES.

    I don't get it. Is it because it's 'just' basketball? If football ever goes to a 16 team playoff....does anyone think if we won 2 games and made it to the final 4 in FB everyone would be saying "hey great season" going into that final 4?? Hell no we wouldn't!! (or would we) If we would, then I never want a FB playoff. I never want to be satisfied with an elite 8 or final 4. I want to win the last game.

    I think the whole march madness thing has really taken away from winning...just making the elite 8 is awesome now. it's exciting, I watch it, i go to games, i play brackets....but it just doesn't seem to matter too much since it's so hard to win it all. just get to the sweet 16, don't get embarrassed and it's a great year.

    any thoughts? what am i missing?

  • Its a success if you're a small program or a team that was not expected to get that far. I think at one point this year losing now would have been considered a let-down but its hard to say that at this point. We had a tough grind in
    the tourney and we didnt over-achieve but any of the four remaining teams can win it at this point. What a final four and thats what BB is all about. If we play like we did against duke then its ours but now we need our two best games of the season or it was just a good run but not a great one. Moderate success but the goal would not be accomplished IMO. Sort of like losing to florida when we had Oden and company. We made it but we did not accomplish the objective. florida was better than us but when will we win the games we should as well as the ones we shouldnt? Thats how you win Championships.

    I think it has to do with the slump this team was in towards the end of the regular season. People have forgotten that we beat up Duke and Florida. I have to think that the regular season was a disappointment.

    Obviously they are having a good run in the tourney, if they can make the NCG than I would definitely call this season a success. Getting to the Final Four is an accomplishment and shouldn't be overlooked.
