Bucks' Offense allows plowhorse to gallop

  • "Eddie George would have had 2,000 yards in this offense," said OSU running backs coach Stan Drayton, who previously coached the running backs under Meyer for four seasons at Florida. "If he won the Heisman Trophy back in those days, we would have put him in position to win the Heisman Trophy in this offense."

  • "I guarantee you, it's just a matter of us getting out there and showing what we are capable of doing in this offense," Drayton said. "This is a run-first offense. We run power just like a pro-style offense runs power. We just dress it up a little bit."

music to my ears! I was getting worried....guess I can step back from the ledge now.

  • Don't jump, 3yd! Surely, sunnier days are ahead!

  • Very hyp. type question. So if we have a running back who adds some serious yardage to his resume..will the player be Heismen candidate..considering the team can not play conference championship & on NCAA suspension?

  • Not really a surprise. Meyer ran power at Florida. He just never really had the big backs and used Tebow like a battering ram. Pretty damned effective too. Here he has a stable of power running backs and a state that produces new ones all the time.

This quote should help assuage some of the worriers, myself included. Nice job 3yds!

  • You're right. The offense he ran at Florida was very run orientated. That's why Braxton is the key as he is the perfect type of QB for his system.

They spread you out and take advantage o mismatches. It should be very refreshing to watch.

read this earlier today, just didn't put it up

Rod Smith and freshman Bri’onte Dunn also hope to challenge for playing time. Meyer has already seen enough from Dunn to say that he doesn’t expect him to be redshirted. Smith, who worked his way back into the team’s good graces after not showing up at the Gator Bowl, has the size and speed to be effective.

“He’s got a ways to go as far as just learning and understanding what he does,” Drayton said of Smith. “Once that occurs, I think we’ll see the full speed.”

  • Sure looking forward to seeing some of these kids in Urban's offense. Wish we had some better news on Rod Smith, but like others have said in this thread, at least we're loaded at RB. And another advantage...the opposing defense isn't going to know what we're running on 1st down every time. That can only help.

  • Good stuff from Drayton. But with all the new moving parts there's bound to be some hiccups this year. But hell, if last years offense with all the suspensions could still run the ball with 8 stacked up we will be fine this year if all we can do is grind..... But we all know we'll throw it better this year than last year.
