Cardale Jones

  • I read that Jones didn't get any playing time in the game, with Dave Biddle saying that shows what the staff thinks of him. I looked him up on Twitter and saw that he tweeted this after the game:

    Cardale Jones ‏ @Cordale10
    #BigMistake

Not a great way for his career to begin at OSU.

  • Interesting. I heard that he's been hurt. I thought that's why he wasn't playing.

  • Urban said on Wednesday that he was ill. I didn't expect to see much of him. Needs to just relax and keep putting the work in.

    Razorback

  • I hope it's only that. The kid seems to have a high ceiling. He obliterated Pennsylvania in the Ohio-Pennsylvania game a year ago.

  • Urban did say he wanted to have a great look at Miller and Guiton in the passing game. We saw a lot of passes.
Miller looked good. Nice spiral on the ball now. He made a couple bad throws. Didn't see any qb designed runs.
I thought Guiton played better in the second half. He is really getting better.

they blew the whistle when they got close to the QB--so we were not going to see any designed QB runs

    Other than Guiton's TD.

With Brax and Kenny in the fold already and JT Barrett recently committing, how much playing time do you thing will be there for Cardale. I like the kid but think he will be a transfer somewhere down the road.

  • I hate to say this, but Cardale should transfer. He's a pocket passing QB, and Meyer's offense is not designed for him. It's a very unfortunate situation for him, the kid had schollie offers from many other schools, but waited and wanted to be a Buckeye. I just don't see Cardale excelling in Meyer's offense.

Hope this doesn't piss off Ginn Sr, and mess up our pipeline to glenville.

People forget that Chris Leak did most of the damage to us in the 07 NC game and not Tim Tebow. Leak was a pocket passer in Meyers offense.

  • He is a year behind, learning a new system, freshman, etc.. It's a learning year for him IMO

I disagree with you on this one. He is a damn good player that can fit into this offense. He may not be a "running" quarterback, but he can move around enough to create space and also pick up a few first downs with his feet. He has a great arm and anyone that knows him will tell you he is a leader. JT will not be given the QB position after Brax leaves. He will have to fight for it with Cardale and Cardale is good enough to win it. I will be surprised if Cardale is not the backup by the end of the year. He just needs some time to pick up the system. Not a knock on Guiton, he looked good today. Just my opinion.

  • Cardale's a guy who originally committed to OSU despite being in the same class as Braxton. He could have gone to another school but he went to FUMA, OSU's prep pipeline. He never once wavered. Odds are he was instrumental in helping recruit his FUMA teammate, Mike Thomas, one of the stars of the spring game. He's proven he's S&G through and through.

Let's cut the kid some slack. He's one twisted ankle from being second string. Two twisted ankles from being the starter. Things will sort themselves out on their own without people having to push him out the door.

Would really HATE to see him transfer to someplace like scum.

I had read somewhere that there was a chance they might look to see if they could move Jones to another position. Anyone know anything about that?

Why on earth would they move our only scholarship third string QB to another position? How soon we forget. This kid can play and is a competitor. He played his best HS games against the best competition. Give him some time. We'll be glad we have him at QB.

  • I was watching the kid throw at the Spring Game, has a very awkward throwing motion...im not to worried about him...with Braxton and Kenny and J.T Barrett on the way there are going to be some people that get left behind and i see him being one of those people.

Agree. The kid has only been on campus for 4 months and people think he wants to transfer because he didn't get to play in a scrimmage?

Cordale was listed as an Athlete in his early recruiting, he has good size maybe play somewhere else.

  • Cardale transferring? No. He just completed the first 15 practices of his whole life at the D-I level and just because he didn't play in the spring game he might transfer? No. And the idea that his "style" doesn't match Urban's doesn't make sense either. He knew full well what coming to OSU meant... competition. He gladly welcomed it. He isn't going anywhere.

The spring game was admittedly unbalanced (admitted by the HC) because they wanted to see some things, see the matchups, see how certain individuals would perform in a more game-like atmosphere. Since they've only had 14 practices to get their completely new offense installed, I can tell you what was NOT high on their priority list: seeing a third string QB throw. That is Cardale's position. 3rd string. The spring game was one in which the starting QB played the WHOLE game. This doesn't really say much about Cardale as it does about the whole team. The coaches wanted to see what their 2-deep could get done in a limited offensive scheme (according to Braxton), while at the same time allowing for some continuity to be built (no continuity like finding Mike Thomas 12 times, am I right?)...

So can we all please settle down about the 3rd string QB? He all summer and fall to impress and move up the depth chart, though I believe we know the top two QBs on the roster played in the spring game.

  • I agree that Cardale has proven great desire to be a Buckeye and most certainly was an assistance in our getting Thomas. I agree that he is learning a new system and should be cut some slack and time to develop. I agree that he was a very good high school quarterback who while not a runner is capable of picking up first downs with his feet. I am pulling for him to earn some reps and prove himself. However what does concern me that Urban and Staff are telling recruits of plans to take two quarterbacks in this class. This to me says one or both of two things. Their confidence level of Cardale developing into a backup/starter position anytime during the next four years and/or Urban and Staff are not that confident in Barrett being able to do this either. As I watch Barrett's video I find it hard to believe that they feel this way about him and he also benefits from more experience in the same system that we will be ustilizing.

  • cardale will be a career backup at ohio state. it's nothing against him, he's got skills, but they simply have better options. i always thought it was laughable when people truly thought he could come in and compete with brax
