Agreed. I don't understand the love fest with Gruden. If Gruden would get the job, I am afraid that we would find ourselves looking for another coach in five years ... he doesn't seem like a coach who would be content to stay in one place for very long. i could see him bolting for the NFL [again] as soon as the opportunity presented itself.
Frankly, I am not a big Meyer fan, however, after yesterday ... I am quickly becoming one!

I started hearing Gruden name everywhere right after he started doing ESPN MNF. He did that because he was fired. Never did much in pros, won with SB with DUngies players then team fell apart. But since he sounds intelligent on MNF analysis, people think he is a good coach. He would be a bad hire.

"Big time college football programs simply cannot do well without great recruiting?" I'm hoping I misunderstood the rationale behind that declaration. Did you mean you can't get good recruits without good coaches and that's why kids are staying away from OSU in droves? A coach is like a chef and great chefs can make incredible meals even with ordinary ingredients. To wit, here are OSU's and Wisconsin's offenses yesterday by position and # of Stars (per Scout):
Ohio State......................Wisconsin TE Stoneburner (4).............Pederson (2) T Shugarts (5)..................Oglesby (5) G Mewhort (4)...................Zeitler (3) C Brewster (5)...................Konz (3) G Linsley (4).....................Frederick (2) T Norwell (5) *...................Wagner (0)--played TE in HS; not found on Scout or Rivals WR Reed (3) *.......................Abbrederis (0)--not found on Scout or Rivals WR D. Smith (4)....................Toon (3) QB Miller (5).........................Wilson (2) RB Hyde (4).........................White (3) RB Hall (3)*..........................Ball (3) * Posey (5), Adams (5), Herron (4)
Which line-up would you rather have on the field right now wearing scarlet and grey? The one that barely missed being shutout against Michigan State for the first time in God-knows-how-long or the one that tagged Nebraska for 48? At only two positions--tackle and RB--do the Badgers even match us. On paper, we win hands down. But football, as we all know, isn't played on paper. But even if we had Wisconsin's lineup, would Bollman & Siciliano still find a way to screw it up? And isn't that the point? A great meal starts with the chef, not the ingredients. Bollman & Siciliano would somehow find a way to burn water. How is it Wisconsin consistently does more with less while we're doing less with more? Bielema personally disgusts me but the man sure as hell seems to know how to coach.
