Looks like 2-2 but they could easily be 1-3 or 3-1 which Gophers show up?
2 wins look likely
We can only beat Buffalo if the dline can contain Cj Spiller and force Fitzpatrick into bad throws.
Anything is possible heck the Bills lost to a CFL team before
Too bad Vandy got scared and backed out. That would have been a good game. At least 2014's OOC schedule is a lot better.
Cal will be tough if for no other reason the fact that we have to travel west. Because for some God-forsaken reason teams from the east that travel west usually have a harder time than the other way around. I hope that won't be the case with us but just consider how many headaches Cal came in here and gave us-- and that was at 9 a.m their time noon ours.
Sonny Dykes has this game circled and after how well they played here last year, they'll be motivated. It'll be up to us though to go for the KO early on and not let up. Take the crowd out of it and have them filing out of there by the 3rd Q.
The same for SDSU. It's Cal in reverse because likewise they're a team traveling about 2,500 miles or more and playing earlier than they're accustomed to. Remember how we eeked out a 16-13 win against them here in the Shoe nearly a decade ago? Wasn't good enough then and won't be next September. We need to obliterate them.
We need to come out the gates of the 2013 season blazing not half cocked and lothargic. Don't come out and dominate Buffalo and then struggle against SDSU and Cal and say afterward, "Just getting ready for the Big 10 season to begin" like we did in 2012.
This is year two of the Meyer era and we should all expect to see him do here what he did to OOC while at UF. We shouldn't see a Tressel sequel. Come out strong and finish strong. It shouldn't be a would we rather start strong or end strong. Well to answer, both. Because the truth is that it'll be the only way we can definitively punch our ticket to Pasadena. There's no margin for error with such a lackluster schedule.
It would've given us an incentive to play for--vs the $EC. It could've been Kentucky I don't care I just want an F'N $EC school on our schedule.
I don't give a damn about having Oregon, Texas and TCU in the next decade. That looks good but we've played most of those teams over the past few years. TCU had been on our '09, 10 preseason schedule but pulled out.
"Genious" Smith pulled Tennessee and UGA off our future schedule when the B1G had moved into a short-lived agreement with the Pac-12. Once that was kaput, it was then all about the future 4-team playoff and scheduling heavyweight opponents. He did good by proclaiming the days of playing the MAC are over but then there's not one $EC opponent on that future schedule thus far. There's still time to change that but it appears that Smith wants to schedule just about every team we've played in a BC$ bowl over the past decade: Texas, Oregon and I guess soon he'll add Kansas State and Notre Dame as well. But how about Florida? LSU? Or South Carolina?
Is it that they're really afraid to come north and play us in a home and away series? Possibly but it still seems ridiculous to think that even they would pass up such a moment. Maybe we need to schedule to play them in Cowboys Stadium the way Michigan had Alabama. I don't know. Though Alabama did play PSU in a home and away. I just think Gene Smith isn't trying hard enough. If the $EC is avoiding scheduling us then so too is he with them.
But that's because they kept stopping at the 10 yard line. That 110-yard field really threw them off their game.
Between UC, NIU and ND, which team do you see Purdue beating for the 2nd win because none of them are going to be easy.
NIU has Jordan Lynch back at QB--3100 yards 25 TDs passing, 1800 yards and 19 TDs rushing--and between Purdue and Iowa, they could very easily go 2-0 against the B1G.
Perhaps at Cincinnati. UC plays very well at times, and poorly other times. Maybe they will overlook the Boilers and Hazell can pick them off?
Prob NIU however openIng day @ cincy is a toss uP gm they might surprise us all and go 3-1.
The real question is how does a Purdue team this bad the last few years always have a shot at beating us in the 4th.
UC finished 10-3 has its top two QBs back plus it's entire OL, including OSU transfer Sam Longo. They lose most of their offensive skill position starters but played a lot of sophomores and freshmen behind them. They only have five starters back on defense but all their ST specialists are back.
Purdue finished 6-7 and loses its top two QBs, its RB, a WR and two OL starters. On defense, they have six starters back. They, too, have all their ST specialists returning.
On paper, UC gets the edge based on a better record in 2012, their returning QBs and OL.
Honestly, it doesn't matter. The BIG would have to beat the heck out of every top conference team before the media would start to sway its opinion. That would not happen now with this conference, so it is better they all play a crap OOC schedule.
I agree cincy gm is tough but they need to win at home vrs NIU. I don't care how good their qb is they shouldn't lose to a MAC team
I can't see them losing 2 games out of that bunch. hope they beat ND and we go into the shit house and wipe their ass off the map. Then again, i would like to see them all if they lost to ND.
