in the country, funny thing coming from a SEC radio fanbase. They were talking about how Gordon Gee said we are aiming for 20 teams and corner the TV market, we will make the most money and the rest follows.
From my point of view, I like the new coaches, if Bo Pelini can get himself canned or at least put together a good team, its good for the B1G, good thing Beillemma's cry baby self is out of here. Plus if PSU can win their lawsuit B.O.B sells himself (Yeah, PSU haters, want to talk about morality and paedophilia) I hate the NCAA more than I hate PSu..sorry..
But I'll maximum of 5 years , this thing is cyclical and almost all the coaches come from Up north anyway, born and bred in mostly Ohio..look no further than those two brothers in the superbowl right now.

Too logical, too obvious, too simple, therefore unacceptable to this board...
Its not like we haven't been on top before, so those who just started following football in 2006 won't know..
Before sofla/creed or 82d beat me to it, I'm obliged to note that animals are bred, crops are raised and people are reared. And not just at Penn State.
gh, I live down here in sec suck land. Went to Kay Jewelers to buy my wife a new ring after 15 years of marriage. Had to put up with a stupid Bama fan in there. All he talked about was Saban. I was really getting tired of hearing his crap. My wife whispered in my ear. Bama fans act scared of Urban!!!
I think the feeling's mutual.
I don't doubt that they are just as we fear Saban. Both are intensely driven coaches Type A coaches.
OSU and maybe Michigan will be good enough to compete, but the rest is garbage. This conference will be on OSU's back for sometime.
B1G could be a little better than past several years, maybe competing with the Pac12 and Big12, but will never be at the level of the Seck.
Never is a long time Chu...
How firm thy friendship O-HI-O
Can't just say the rest of the guys are Garbage just based on who is top 5 in recruiting. No one knows what the Wisky Coach will do, or if PSU can whether the storm or if this new Miami case helps them in their court ruling, no judge in the world will say the NCAA was right in what it did, Moral yes ..but the NCAA to be preaching morality.
All it takes is one motivated team each year to rise, remember Northwerstern back in the day, didn't they win their Bowl Game.. MSU found its QB , we know Danatonio can also coach and develop players.
Its about player development also, that is something we are overlooking. all.
BTW if you are talking about the SEC yes purdue and MSU will not be able to match up with BAMA & LSU or FLORIDA
But the rest of those pitfull teams that ride the balls of their power houses..they can compete. So stop drining the Koolaid.
Utah beat Bama in the Sugar bowl, Louville beat Florida you can't tell me other teams can't hang, or they weren't prepared, lol.
BTW Clemson also beat LSU. These coaches are from up north anyway.
Their cockiness is going to work in other conferences favor.
BTW where was the SEC before 2006 ? to get to the BCS title you have to get lucky also..BAMA wouldn't have been there if we were eligible & if Oregon , Kansas S. didn't lose.. It has worked in their favor alot these past few years.
You're dreaming GH. PSU is going to be down for at least 6-8 years, and aside from scUM, the rest of the conf. can't recruit for garbage. Unless Anderson is brilliant, I don't expect this to be anything but the Big 2 and Little 10 for at least 5 years. It will take a new batch of brilliant coaches to turn this conf around.

The trouble with the OP's POV is it doesn't matter how much money the BIG brings in off of TV revenue if all the other schools won't spend it. The BIG will NEVER compete day to day with the SEC until the coaches in the BIG are on par with those in the SEC.
Do you honestly ever see Indiana or Purdue hiring (and paying for) a Nick Saban? It has to be mutual, not only does the school have to pony up 4 Mil a year, coaches have to want to come to your school and stay there. Right now 90% of the BIG teams are stepping stone jobs, not destination jobs. I don't know the numbers but I'd be willing to bet we have more than a couple schools paying their BBall coaches more than their FBall coaches, yet FBall is why the BigTen Network is raking it in.
The SEC has had 4 different teams win 9 of last 14 NC's.....The BIG has had one team even play in NC game in that same time. I don't think there is any chance of your prediction that the BIG will become a great, deep conference in the next 5 years. Wealthy? Yup, good? Nope...
2 things that interfere with this.
1. ESPN has a majority market share of the sports media world. Meaning they own college football. OWN IT. Whatever they say is what the popular opinion simply is.
2. SEC and ESPN have a contract that says they have to toss each others salad every year.
So long as those two things remain true, the big ten will never be percieved as the "best" conference if for no other reason than ESPN tells them otherwise.
We've already seen big ten teams beat SEC teams. We saw this year the SEC get beat in bowl games. We saw a SEC team get beat by a sun bowl team. Alabama gets beat by former big 12 Texas A&M which blows a huge hole in the "best conference" argument. But you will still hear people say "best conference" because people are unthinking sheep. Here you have evidence to the contrary on the field of play but ESPN tells them...."SEC best conference" and that is what they think.

"The only thing That Team Up North will be tasting this year is the salty tears of defeat" - UFM
Its.the talent ..... Not the money ... More better teams
Bielema said he left because all his assistants could get higher pay in other conferences. Though I hate Bielema just as much as the next guy, there is a lot of truth in that. Instead of paying our assistants more, the BIG uses that money for education. Also, instead of playing football 365 days a year, midwestern high schoolers spend a lot of their time studying and working. I think that is the main reason why the SEC is so good. BIG people would rather have a decent job and standard of living first and a good football team 2nd. SEC people would rather have a good football team first, and work/get educated 2nd.
In bama its pronounced 'edumacashun'
look at the team recruiting, SEC the last 4 years has had 9 team on average in the top 25, the BIG has had 2-3. We are not on par for becoming the best league in 3-4 years. Basketball yes, football no. Luckily Ohio State is on par with becoming an elite team, maybe Michigan to become a top 5 team but a huge drop off after that.
Not sure what you mean by "best"?
Best in terms of what? Most money, best performing or more titles? It could mean beast in recruiting or putting more kids into the NFL or the best at kids getting their degrees? This could mean a host of things.
If you are referring to the field of play in football, there's no evidence to support your assertion.
What I do think is that in 5 years, the BUCKEYES will be one of the top one or two squads in CFB for wins, titles, division trophies and wins on the big stage! Now that is something I can support!!
And damn ya if ya think I got my "homer glasses" on because I do. The Bucks will be the talk of CFB after putting up
a shat load of points, big time wins and a few national titles.

Ohio State and Michigan are recruiting well and we know Ohio State is gonna be by far the best team in the Big Ten but it's still to be seen what will come of Michigan. As far as the rest of the Big Ten, no way on earth. Big Ten doesn't wanna pay coaches and lacks elite players/depth so the Big Ten will still be behind the SEC. The SEC is in talent rich areas for those schools and pay their' coaches/assistants real money to get the job done. Just not gonna be happening
I think OSU and Michigan will be competitive. I think PSU will if O'Brien is there. And most likely Nebraska and Wisky will be in the conversation. NW will be NW. MSU will be MSU. But the other schools are lagging in every category compared to their SEC brethren.
Yea okay, but if scUM continues to delude itself into thinking that its more than it is, it doesn't bode well for the skunk bear.
Did you see the article on scUM's rival site where it stated that the Green commitment was "another step toward titles!" Really?
When was the last time the skunk bear won the Big10?
Nothing sense the "mythical title" of the 60s.
Talk about delusional. Talk about a school that is living in the 70s/80s? The University of Michigan in football is absolutely no where close to winning the tittle in football.
Hoke revealed this with his apparent "crying game" act after Green announced. Any coach that cries after ONE kid commits to his school simply knows that he's done and that his ENTIRE future has been put into one basket and based upon one signing of a recruit. This was both ridiculous and very telling.
This IMO is the kiss of death and is revealing regarding the state of scUM.

Penn State may be down longer than that! O'Brien is waiting for the good NFL job to pop up now that everyone know he can coach.
I don't see him staying there!
I agree. For as much venom as people here like to spit out, the truth is OSU and Michigan are separating themselves from the rest of the B1G pack. I look at the SEC and virtually every one of those schools is reeling in great classes; even Kentucky's doing better considering Stoops' late start and he's doing it just the way I thought he would--by recruiting Ohio kids. Look at Hugh Freeze at Ole Miss--he isn't intimidated recruiting head-to-head against Alabama and LSU. But look at the B1Gs and as soon as OSU and Michigan offer a kid, everyone else seems to back off and as long as they have that defeatist attitude, the B1G will never get better. The B1G school I am most impressed with is Indiana. Wilson seems to at least be trying to up the ante. He's got four 4-stars, which has never happened before in Bloomington. He may not be ready to run with the B1G dogs yet but he flipped 4-stars from Wisconsin and Iowa.
PSU only needs to hang on two more years. Then they'll be recruiting kids who will have a chance of playing in bowl games when they are juniors. Even if BOB leaves, he'll have done the hard work--serving as both the salve and the bandage between the JoePa years, the Sandusky scandal and the sanctions. We mocked his hiring but, in hindsight, there may not have been a more prefect choice.
Pelini needs to go at Nebraska. I understand coaching is a high-pressure professions but his temper and epic tirades are going to kill them. He needs to see an anger management therapist and if he has been, he needs to find a new one. He's a Tommy Tuperville sideline meltdown waiting to happen. I'd much, much rather have a coach who shows positive emotion and cries when a kid commits (Hoke) than one who blows up when one decommits the way Pelini does. Epic fail.
Hazell should be good for Purdue, although some of his coaching hires have been questionable (Bollman, ex-Bears OC John Shoop). Fitzgerald has made Northwestern competitive; the questions are about their depth and how long he can keep saying no to schools offering him big, big money. I think Dantonio will eventually right the ship at MSU, although maybe not for a couple more years. Time will tell if Andersen can sustain Alvarez's and Bielema's success at Wisconsin. Time will also be the judge for Rutgers and Maryland as newbies. Ferentz seems to have run out of energy at Iowa; their recruiting class this year is mediocre at best on the heels of an abysmal season, while Jerry Kill may literally die in the middle of a game. Illinois and Beckman are the new Indiana--they have nowhere to go but up.
You guys are talking like Ole Miss, & Miisissipi State & Vandy are winning BCS titles, our Nerds NW beat their nerds..
Not every team is BAMA or LSU in the SEC, Georgia sucks ass, I live in GA.
No matter how much you pay a crappy coach, they can't produce.. How much did Stanford pay Harbaugh & assistant, they still beat USC. Recruiting rankings really don't mean shit in most cases. Recruiting hotbeds neither, how is Miami doing or how have they done since 2003 ?
the assumption was not even from me, I heard it from an SEC radio station fearing they might get behind.
Have an open mind and stop repeating what you guys hear on ESPN...
But it's okay for YOU to repeat what YOU hear?
And that's assuming you even heard it correctly. And who said it? Some deranged Alabama fan before he threw weed killer on an old tree in an Auburn fan's yard or a reputable "football expert" (and please don't say Paul Finebaum)?
At least by quoting ESPN, we're crediting a semi-reliable source instead of mere hearsay heard on the radio.
It was ESPN radio..680 the fan ..a GA based station not finebaum..man you would think something was wrong with the B1G becoming the best on this thread..its like some people don't want that to happen.
Damn, Personally I don't care as long as OSU handles their business, but do you really think this SEC reign or whatever is going to last forever?
