Three weeks ago we had 11 unbeaten teams, and just last week we had six. Now entering the final couple of weeks, there are four left with only three having a shot at playing in the national championship game. All four play this weekend, with Kansas State taking on Baylor, Notre Dame playing Wake Forest, a beat-up Oregon squad hosting a physical Stanford team, and often-forgotten undefeated Ohio State travelling to Camp Randall to take on Wisconsin, who clinched the Leaders Division title last week with a resounding 62-14 win at Indiana.
While the other three teams are less likely to slip up (especially K-State and Notre Dame, since they are playing far inferior opponents), I think the Buckeyes' unbeaten dreams will fall by the wayside at the hands of the Badgers. If you remember the last time the Buckeyes ventured into Camp Randall Stadium, they arrived undefeated and ranked No. 1 back in 2010. They left that night, however, with their lone loss of the season (12-1) as they succumbed to the relentless Badgers' run offense, 31-18.
Man, do I get tired of the efforts to shamelessly grow readership on behalf of ESPN... No real data, no mention of stats, just say what you want and print what you want... All in the name of getting "IN" membership...

Reads like a Wisky thread post!
Those Who Stay Will Be Championshipless
It's not without precedent:
November 23: #1 LSU lost
November 24: #2 Kansas lost to #3 Missouri
December 1: #1 Missouri lost
December 1: #2 WVU lost
Let's review 2010: Wisconsin returned the opening kickoff 97 yards for a TD. We went four and out on our first possession and Wisconsin started with a short field on their own 42. Five minutes into the game, we were down 14-0 on the road. We actually scored 18 unanswered points and closed the gap to 21-18 before they scored the final 10 points to win 31-18. Wisconsin's "relentless" run offense only gained 184 yards on us--well below their 246 ypg average--and only had the ball 6 seconds longer than us and had one fewer first down than we did. I think it was that opening kickoff and Scott Tolzein's very efficient game management that proved to be the difference--he was 13/16 for 152 yards. I'm not making excuses and don't want to take anything away from Wisconsin who was the better team that night but Phil's rewriting history by making some things up.
Morale of the story: don't get into a hole early.
This teams known for giving up early big plays but, this team is far removed from the 2010 Tressel team. I think they're playing B1G championship game this week & bowl game next week against scUM both victories!
well said and Wisconsin certainly doesnt have the QB this year to keep us on our toes. Our defensive line will slow that run game down and force a few passes. Hopefully the LB'ers come to play if so its an easy OSU win.
That Wisky 2010 game hurt, we could have had a vacated BCS title by now, over cam newton.
You guys are forgetting one of the Best DL in the NFL JJ watt beating everyone on that Oline, reason 4 those 3 &outs, Pryor was scared, our LBs going down didn't help neither, the #1 ranking did us in, I doubt the team was focused.
But hey that game didn't happen according to NCAA right ?
Too logical, too obvious, too simple, therefore unacceptable to this board...
It's funny you mention Phil Steele because just for the heck of it I was comparing his preseason mag predictions to the actual standings this morning and some of his predictions are way off.
I don't remember everyone but I do remember him having Southern Miss as the 2nd best team in Conf USA, and currently So.Miss is either 0-9 or 0-10.
I know he's had the most accurate magazine for a while but he was way off on a lot of his predictions this year.
Not big deal, it's his opinion and history hasn't been good to us entering Camp Randall undefeated....
Nothing to complain about here...
Well, I believe if they gain 186 yards on the ground Saturday, we're in trouble....
That's only 46.5 yards per quarter, less than half a field. They're averaging 220 ypg. I think it'll be less about total yards gained than # of carries--classic B1G 3 yards and a cloud of black rubber shavings. If they can grind in out and dominate TOP, we could be in trouble. Our offense also needs to grind it out to help keep our defense fresh.
This game will be won/lost in the trenches and on special teams. That means field position--if they get the ball in great field position, then, yeah, 186 rushing yards will beat us.
The "o" needs to start early in this game and an early turnover or Sp teams play would not hurt.. If somehow, we can get up on them 14 early, I think a blitzing Shazier or Roby will cause havoc and mayhem on their untested QB

agreed...just like nebraska--take away the running game and put them in a catch-up position that forces their weakest offensive weapon to have to beat us.
We are a team that has nothing to lose. I would hate to be our opponent. 10-0.................SUCK IT BRETT!!!!!!!!!!!! I would like to gorilla press him and toss him through a plate glass window.

Why the sugar coating Chad? Please let out your true feelings
I'm not really sure why everyone keeps comparing this game, to the game we played in Wisc last time.... We have a new coach, QB, schemes, basically a whole different team.... not to mention the 3rd string QB...
I think the way it works is that game is the only one that did!
Agree, the times we lost to Wisky it was because of the Special Teams. Remember the kickoff return.
well said. the way i look at it also.
