Let me start by saying I give it two years and you will be absolutely dominating the Big 10. Coach Meyer was the only guy that could consistently go head to head with Coach Saban and win recruiting battles when he was in the SEC, the rest of the Big 10 should be scared.
Second, I know there is a lot of talk about conferences, who's the best and blah blah blah, the SEC has been on a good run and I know the media has been giving the Big 10 some grief but just give it time. Big 10 is damn good football, damn good teams with a lot of incredible tradition. I look forward to some great games in the future against some Big 10 teams. Haven't played the Bucks since 94, that's been a long time.
OK so enough rambling, on to why I am here: I work for Battelle Memorial Institute and our headquarters is right in Columbus, OH and I just got into town tonight. I am disappointed you guys are on the road this weekend but was curious if I could get a tour of the shoe or any facilities on campus. Down in Tuscaloosa you can tour the stadium at certain times for about $5 and get in the Bryant museum for a couple bucks. A fan of college football tradition and history I would love to get a look around if they do that here.
Sorry for the long post guys, I appreciate any advice, thanks
ROLL TIDE ROLL
It states a two week notice but you might try anyway, let them know you're in town on a visit. Columbus is a great town with plenty to do. You will not have a problem keeping busy. Enjoy your stay.

Here's hoping you find some fun times while there. Travel safe and try to make it back for a game next time!
You could go over to the Schott and walk around the arena. I believe there is a lot of cool stuff there to look at. Also, the new Union is a pretty neat place to look at as we'll as the very newly remodeled Library.
Ps- I really like the documentary... Roll Tide - War Eagle. That dude from Bama that poisoned the Toomers trees is nuts! That would be like a TOSU fan taking a dump on the M in the sewer hole stadium up North

Honestly you used to be able to walk right into the Shoe back in the day, don't know if that's the case anymore.
Try and get to a game at some point, script Ohio is by the the coolest unique experience in all of sports, at least in this posters opinion.
Good luck C-bus is a good town.

What kind of work do you do for Battelle? I know they have been involved in some pretty awesome inventions that have had impacts on many of our lives.
I work at St John Arena if you'd like a tour of it
GadsdenTiger, I hope you enjoy your visit ! Hey, can we borrow your defense for a few games this year ?
Brady Hoke licked the pizza boy's taint to get the scUM job.
Can't help you with your stadium tour question but I will suggest Hyde and Park steak/seafood. One of the best places to eat in town.

I'll second that!
It's in Short North, a nice section of town that's a good area to visit.
On campus, like it's been suggested the library is a must see, go to the top and you'll get a good view of campus. Walk the Oval, check out Ohio Union, Mirror Lake, Stadium, St. John's.
Thanks, look slike I am out of luck even without a two week notice, I could not make their time committment. Thank you very much for the info and I am sure I will be back in the futture. I will try to plan ahead next time.
Which arenas is that?
Thanks, I definitely plan to get up close and get some picks of the shoe and the campus. I will check it out an see if I can get in.
Yeah, Battele basically invented te technology behind the CD, Xerox, coating on modern gold balls and much more.
I work in the chemical demilitarization arena. I am based in Colorado, hopefully will be coming to Columbus often now. I have been with Battelle almost 8 years and this is my first time to headquarters but I expect
That to change.
Cool, I will definitely do that. Always looking for good food!
I appreciate all the responses.
One thing...just make a quick stop in Ann Arbor and drop some of that stuff off, we'll be much obliged.
Battelle was one of my customers in a prior life. VERY tight security getting into that place if I recall.
I assume you mean "golf balls" and not "gold" balls????
I've heard of brass balls, but gold ones must be on a different level!
Haha, oh yeah, golf balls!!
There are also a lot of good high school teams down there since osu is away ya might wanna check out a hs game an see some pretty good up an coming talent
Yes it has been a long time and based on where we're at and where you all are, it can wait a few more years as far as I'm concerned.
Because it'd be a slaughter right about now. We struggled against UAB not Auburn so I still have my concerns.
And when we do play, we owe you one. You own a 3-0 record all time against us beginning in the '78 Sugar Bowl when Woody and Bear Bryant met for the first and last time as opposing coaches. Then in the kickoff classic in East Rutherford, NJ in '86 and lastly as you alluded to in the January '95 Citrus Bowl. Close game that was. One that could've went either way.
And conversely Nick Saban is the one coach that scares me. After all it was his 4 TD underdog Spartans that ended our would-be perfect season back in '98. Makes me wonder had he not taken the LSU job at the end of the '99 season and held out a little longer, would he have been a candidate for the job here the very next year.
And whether people like it or not, you all are set for as long as Saban remains. He runs a tight ship and has built your program to resemble an NFL team.
On a final note you'll notice that Columbus is a big city compared to Tuscaloosa and many other college towns you may have frequented. A lot of people are surprised when they get here and see for themselves.
Not to nitpick, but it's called Hyde Park Prime Steakhouse and there are several in Columbus. (The Upper Arlington location is the original, fwiw.)
Where are you staying while you're in town? Maybe we can help with other food & drink recommendations.
You have to book the tours and they typically come in groups of 10 people or less for $100. I actually proposed to my fiance in August on the 50 yard line of the 'Shoe during a private tour I reserved.
There's a gentleman that you can contact to hopefully help you out, his contact info is:
Hope this helps! Enjoy your stay and, I guess, Roll Tide?
Walking around Easton in the evening hours is awesome! Its only about10-12 min. NE from Columbus
Just wanted to update you guys:
I got busy with work and socializing and did not get much time to get on here and update you all but I had a great time and lucked out!
After leaving my conference on Friday I went by the Shoe with a co-worker to get some pictures and believe it or not they had the gates open, a cute girl handing out flyers for self guided tours, I hit in the stadium, took elevators to the press box and presidents box and walked onto the field and stood inside the O at the 50 yd line.
I was impressed with the stadium and facilities; I love college football history but love it more when stadiums and such live up to the hype.
After we left the stadium we did go to the Hyde park steak house, I had the 16oz ribeye medium rare and it was well worth the $41 my company paid for it.
I appreciate the help and enjoyed our exchanges in this thread. Congrats on taking down sparty this weekend.
I may be back I'm Columbus in the future, hopefully one day I can get to see a game and tailgate with some bucknuts.
Until then, beat Michigan and Roll Tide!
