Agree with Cav -- it'll be better if you get a chance to tell them in detail why you are bailing.

  • what happened? i'm out west and don't pay attention to it

You'll have difficulty even finding someone on this forum that is an actual subscriber. Crappy and unoriginal stories, grammatical errors, and news that is 12 hours old went out of favor awhile ago.

Brilliant idea, try and run a local, already hurting business out of work because you disagree with the way they do their job. Put yourself in Ken Gordon's shoes. What would you write about? Would you try and write a bunch of lovey-dovey bullshit just to keep Columbus happy, or would you rather him report the news stories as they are? Just because we're OSU fans doesn't mean news doesn't exist.

I live here in Washington, DC. Maybe I shouldn't read the Washington Post because it writes articles criticizing our Government?

People on this board need to open up and realize that they're all doing their job (ESPN is a whole other story, however). Ken Gordon is not anti-OSU, he's a journalist by profession. I'm not happy with the subject matter about which he's writing, but completely discrediting a whole newspaper just because someone is doing their JOB is quite juvenile.

You took the words right out of my mouth. There are no complaints when the story is about us in a positive light but once the reports were about the poor job that OSU was doing with its athletic department people started becoming upset. What i don't understand is why anger has been placed on the writers from the dispatch and not the idiots who created the story (people from OSU).

Just so you know, I do disagree with the way they do their job. Their writing is sloppy and subpar and the articles are terrible. The Dispatch puts out a crappy product....and that's the whole sha-bang, not just the sports page. The folks at the Dispatch are putting themselves out of work, Underdog is just trying to speed up the process which will happen sooner or later unless they change. There is a reason some refer to the paper as "The Columbus Disgrace".

  • Yes, everyone please continue to vote me down just because I said something that you disagree with, as opposed to understanding a rational thought process.

    1) The Dispatch is not the New York Times, Boston globe, or Washington Post. It isn't meant to be that way. Hoping to have the same kind of journalism that is produced in those papers would be just plain silly. If anything, people should be flattered that the journalists at The Dispatch are working their asses off to produce a good story (EVEN IF YOU DISAGREE WITH IT). Also, you people have to realize that a lot of the articles in The Dispatch are written by the AP....not The Dispatch.
    2) I don't get why someone/a business is getting penalized for doing their job and serving their purpose in this world. Imagine being put in this position yourself. Would you write the facts or just spew bullshit to keep the locals happy?
    3) All of us can agree that we don't like reading the bad press about OSU, which is understandable. That being said, every time some negative press appears in the newspaper people shouldn't start reaching for their pitchforks. Understand that journalism like this happens everywhere.

The way Ken Gordon replied to mattincincy's e-mails was much more polite than I would've been. Some of the irate fans need to take a step back, take a deep breath, and then take another look at the situation. We're all mature adults and should act like it. For some reason, some people on this board completely forget that.

  • sarcasm font on/ Yeah, don't cancel the dispatch. They do a great job, such as when they reported that Gibson got a free car! We should definitely feel sorry for them and keep buying their crappy product. /sarcasm font off

    1. The only people that need to be felt sorry for are the people who bring the paper to your door, that is who this hurts the most. I know, my father was in circulation for 20+ years and unless you work in Franklin county, and a few surrounding counties, you are treated like a migrant farm worker by THE Dispatch, as they no doubt aspire to be recognized as.

    2. Since when have they told the stories as they are? Same one-sided dirty program slant as all other, not even toilet worthy, rags do. No consistency, no balance, no standards other than $$$. Most of the articles I read on this topic are opinion based. No actual reporting, reason applied, or logic used. No interviews to get what the info means. (Not that the university is giving out many and understandably so.) Just jump to conclusions without finding the facts. Isn't Andy Geiger available for comment? Like to hear what he has to say.

    3. Why is ESPN a "whole other story"? Seems they both have been using the same reporting tactics.

I can take the reporting if it is factual and free from agenda. I have not found very much of that lately.
