Look, he's just filling out the NFL paper work like he should. He'l get an honest NFL report if its from Cooper. His decision is not made. He needs to go if he can as everybody knows. I would love to see him against Meeechigan one more time just to see his 'feed me' hand signals after a good run. That was classic.
like how a kid was dead.....
If he can crack 1st 3 rounds he needs to split. I want him back but we can find a new scUM killer

I'll bet you dollars to donuts that Urban has not only blessed this but encouraged Hyde to look into it. He wants his players to know he's not going to stand in the way of them fulfulling their dreams. If the NFL says they're ready, he's not going to stand in their way. I think Hyde would benefit fron another year but we have talent behind him. Which brings me to Antonio Pittman. Beanie Wells had just finished his freshman year and Pittman knew he wasn't going to have better stats the next season. So he went. I got it then. I get it now.
He;s just putting his paperwork in checking where he would go. Lots of juniors do this. Tressel encouraged kids to check.
Unlike other positions, if Hyde went it wouldn't hurt us as bad. We would still miss that last year he would be here but we have a stable of kids who can all ball. There isn't going to be enough football to go around next year even if Hyde leaves. Smith, Hall, Dunn, Ball, Ezekial are all guys who can carry the rock.

The Squeeler's will be looking for RB's in the draft.... they used 4 this past Sunday and ALL of them fumbled. BAWAHHAAHAHAHA !
GO BROWNS !
Brady Hoke licked the pizza boy's taint to get the scUM job.
Yep that's what I assumed most of the starting Juniors would do. I wonder what round Hyde has in his mind as the catalyst for deciding to go or not. Either way, I'm just happy for him. Great year, great Buckeye! Hopefully he gets drafted where he wants to and makes a big payday!
While Hyde was a pretty good runner, he had a heck of an o-line to run behind. I think he needs one more year, to be an NFL ready back. That being said, I think it's a really good idea to put some feelers out to see where he fits in the NFL. It will let him know how to improve this offseason to get ready for the NFL. I really don't see him actually going in the draft.
Urban's already weighed in on this. He thinks the system, as it is currently configured, is flawed and inaccurate. Says he has talked with the NFL about it.
Hyde is a special back. He would really be good for us next year, but...if he has an opportunity to make the $$ then he has to take it. I'll wish him good luck but it sure would be good to have him hanging around.
you know i keep reading he's special from some people, and dont get me wrong, he's REALLY good. guys, carlos hyde is not special. realistically in terms of talent, he is the 3rd most talented running back on our roster. maybe our definitions of special are different but when i think special i think eddie george and beanie wells. hyde is like an antonio pittman to me. very good player, but he sure isnt special

Got it on the Beanie/Eddy thing. When I see a back get that critical first down time after time, he's got something in him that separates him from the others, that's what I was implying. I'll take a back with football sense and grit any day, and if he stayed I think he'd be one of the better backs here we've seen in a long time.
i think he will stay. just cause someone entered their papers doesnt mean he's leaving. he'll see his draft grade and come back for his senior year. and if he leaves, thanks for the great season. next man up.
Sure it looks like we have quite an arsenal of backs next year, but many are untested in game situations Hall can't seem to stay healthy. Dunn hasn't been getting alot of reps, not sure if Urban is happy with his attitude or what. Smith is coming on, but not as reliable as Carlos. If he can go early rounds go for it kid , but Buckeyes would be a better team with him than without.
Those Who Stay Will Be Championshipless
Absolutely. I don't think anyone is asserting that the team would be better without Carlos- that's crazy.
But the stable isn't bare, and with Hall coming back with the younger guys it should make for a competitive backfield.
With Carlos it would be elite though.

I'd also have to think at this point....being able to have the type of running game Meyer experienced this year which he didn't have at Florida....
I'd have to think Jordan Hall will more than likely be competing against the likes of Elliot and Marshall...more so than Hyde or Smith.
I'm not saying I'm right....but to have the type of running game we had this year....if Elliot and Marshall end up being as good as advertised and come in ready to play...that's the niche I see Hall competing for.
Marshall, Elliot and if Hall comes in super healthy, fast and competitive.....I see these guys being put into the game and put into a position to be the home run threat we've been craving to have no matter how we get the ball in their hands...and if we get that then Braxton's game is going to get a hell of a lot better also.
best of luck to him if he decides to leave, but I always had the feeling this year that he wasn't 100 percent. He was wearing the knee brace after the surgery, I believe he had, and although he was running hard I feel like he would be so much more of a monster if he came back next year.
If he leaves, I feel confident enough in Dunn and Smith, honestly.
Seriously would anyone be surprised if he did go? They guy has the size and speed along with the attitude to run the ball in the NFL. He did have to go to a military academy before coming here, so that says a little bit to me about school. He can always come back and finish through the great NFL program that is set up for guys to finish their degree.
I would to. He'd be well-fed.
I think he is easily the best back we've had here since Beanie, and aside from Beanie, I would take him over any of the backs we've had here dating back to Clarett. He's got a much bigger frame than Pittman did, and despite the NFL trend toward the passing game, they will always be looking for big bruisers who can pick up a few tough yards here and there. I think he'll test well at the combine, as he's always been timed as pretty darn fast here at the WHAC.
Beyond that, I don't think I've really heard much at all about any 'special' running back talent in this year's class. So I think he has that going for him. If he hadn't been robbed of carries last year than he would have a more impressive body of work, but I think there's enough film of him out there now to merit being picked in the top half of the draft. If you can do that, you can put yourself in a position of financial security for the rest of your life, assuming you spend the money wisely. For those talking about getting additional seasoning to better position yourself in the draft, I think the game has changed a bit since the last CBA. Rookie contracts aren't as lucrative, and as long as you get drafted into a situation where you can compete and prove yourself, your real money is made in the second contract.
Personally, if I'm a football player who knows they can make an NFL roster, I feel like I have more of a chance to improve my skill set by taking a job where I'm 100% focused on football, instead of having to balance it with classes, assignments, and the like.
i think pittman and hyde are on the same level imo. i think boom is pretty damn close. boom was really good, people just forget about that cause he was suspended for 6 games. my point really is this, montee ball was a 3rd round grade after last season. he is a much better running back than hyde is, whether people want to admit that or not is one thing. if hyde is a 3rd round grade id be shocked.
also i think this thread is extremely misleading. nowhere has he said he's leaving, he filing paperwork to see where he'd be drafted just like every junior in cfb does
Montee Ball is one of the best RB's in college football.
In 2009 and in 10' he was John Clay's back up. In 2010 behind Clay...he still managed to run for just shy of 1,000 yards (996) and scored on 18 rushing TD's...and he was just 3rd in total rushing yards....that's sick!
In 2011 he ran for 1,923 yards and scored 33 TD's......as well as:
"On November 26, 2011, Ball scored four touchdowns against Penn State, and four more in the Big Ten Championship game one week later giving Ball 38 total touchdowns on the season which is 2nd all-time in FBS. He trails Oklahoma State's Barry Sanders who scored 39 touchdowns in 1988."
"On January 2, 2012, Ball scored his 39th touchdown of the season tying him with Barry Sanders for most touchdowns in a single FBS season."
Imagine if he started as a true freshman and stayed healthy what his numbers would be.
If Hyde finished the season as the starter in 2011 and stayed healthy at the beginning of this season he would have for sure smashed through the 1,000 yard barrier.....but he wouldn't be in the vicinity of Montee Ball.
