Auburn contractually is obligated to pay the coach $208,333 per month through the end of 2015.
Any money he earns outside those payments, which includes work as an analyst or author, will be subtracted from the amount Auburn owes him. The contract requires Chizik "to use reasonable efforts to obtain other employment and/or income from third parties."
I wish someone would pay me that much money to fail.
Become a coach. All you have to do is land a big time gig, ala lame kitten.
Too logical, too obvious, too simple, therefore unacceptable to this board...
Doesn't matter. He found a way to cheat....err...win a national title at Auburn. That's more than most coaches can say in the SEC and in the Big10, so I wouldn't beat the drum too much over his demise.
He's not that bad of a coach and will find another one. If I were Illinois, Arkansas or Minnesota, I would get Chizik on the horn by dinner time this evening!

Maybe now the mythical "bag man" in the sCam Newton saga will come forward?
Its time for someone to identify and/or catch that guy. The APB has been out long enough.
I don't know. How do you take a national championship program to 2-10 or whatever their record was this year in just two years? He should have been reaping benefits on the recruiting trail and at least having decent seasons. I don't think he is HC material honestly. He had all the $upport he needed at Auburn and couldn't get it done. he won't be able to get it done in the Big at least not in a way that makes a Minny relevant again.
"Buckeye born and bred, a Buckeye 'til I'm dead"
Yea, okay, but nevertheless....he won the National Championship game and produced a Heisman winner.
Regardless of what you think, he can ALWAYS put that on his resume and note his accomplishments. He's done more than every other Big10 and SEC head coach has done except for Coach Meyer, Nick Saban and Les Miles.
He will work again. Maybe he just got a bit long in the tooth at Auburn and its simply time to move on.
Don't you think the following schools would love to have the past 5 years performance of guy like Chizik?
I think you could make the case that Chizik is a better coach than you described.

Chizik is going to be paid $1.3 million per year to sit on his thumbs. He has zero personality so no one's going to hire him as a commentator or talking head. Trust me. I saw his act up close and personal. He's a prick. He was 33-19 in four seasons at Auburn...14-0 with Newton and 19-19 without him. That's 8-5, 14-0, 8-5, 3-9. Together with 5-19 in two seasons at Iowa State, his 6-year record as a head coach is a very pedestrian 38-38. Who do you think will be a reference for him? No one at Auburn or Iowa State. He'll be one of those guys who gets hired as an defensive coordinator before someone hires him as a head coach again. Texas could use him. He bails out Mack Brown's butt, gets designated head coach in waiting and then takes over in 4-5 years.

Just two years after winning a national title and with a huge class coming in they fire the guy. Just WOW!!!

Long in the tooth at Auburn, he was only there 3-4 years! He hasn't seen his first recruiting class through graduation (well, in the SEC who know if commencement happens). The guy was 5-19 at Iowa State, got lucky with Newton, and now his true coaching ability comes through.
