Saw it on 11W as well. I'm not crazy about taking JUCO's. The kid couldn't get in to Miss. State so I wonder about his academics. Does this also mean were not confident in our other options?
This is what I am getting out of this.
“The only thing they can get me for is running a funeral parlor without a license.”
Is this for sure? I understand he is a JUCO but don’t most JUCO’s go to a JR college because of grades then his grades get better they can transfer to a better school? Nonetheless happy to have an older WR and be able to have another scholarship to free up in 2 years instead of four. I will take it. Happy to have yet another Corey on the team.
probably cause his credits didnt transfer. im very excited about this pick up. kid can play, has 2 cousins on the team already and knows the game of college football that can make an immediate impact
If Urbs wants him he can play ! Congrats to him joining the family ! go bucks !!
From what I've read the only reason he had to wait this long after his OV to commit is because they wanted to make sure his transcripts cleared and they have. Should be good to go, and he has 2 years of eligibility remaining as well as a redshirt season if needed.
Corey Smith originally committed to Tennessee in 2011. He was the second commit in their class. In July 2011, he decommitted and a month later enrolled at a JUCO in Michigan. He then transferred to a JUCO in Mississippi this past year. A very unorthodox path to be sure but let's not infer too much from his travels. He's rated a 4-star on 247, ESPN, Rivals and Scout.
Here's Scout's Allen Trieu's evaluation from 2011: "Excellent route runner in the state. He creates separation with his quickness and ability to change directions. He's excellent on the double move and has an understanding of how to set defenders up, get them on their heels and sometimes, make them look foolish. He's not a 4.4 guy, but he's a smooth glider, and that ability to separate makes up for that. I also believe he could be a cornerback for certain schools."
And here's what Tom Lemming said about him in 2011: "He shows great hands, runs precise routes, good awareness, and big play capabilities. Athletic with outstanding body control, he's not a real strong runner but one with moves and burst. He dominated the Marlington game in the state semi-finals last November with 6 catches for 184 yds and 2 scores. He has to be double-teamed and still knows how to get himself open, and once he gets a half step on a defender it's normally all over."
As a HS junior, he and was named first team All-Ohio. with 52 receptions for 1,161 yards and 16 TD passes. As a sophomore he caught 28 passes for 482 yards and scored 7 TDs despite missing the first three games with a leg injury.
corey brown, corey brown, devin smith, corey smith. announcers will have fun with that next season
+1. Nothing personal against this kid, but not a fan of the JUCO's in any situation. Poisonous to team chemistry, compromises academics and smacks of desperation. Would much rather do without.
Great pick up. Lot of people like this kid and he is one of our own.
If we can also get Clark, that would be a monster haul at WR. Wilson would be nice but we already have Jaylon who can play slot receiver.
This is solid news.
"Buckeye born and bred, a Buckeye 'til I'm dead"
Forgot to mention, Taivon Jacobs who is fast as blazes at WR, and with Elliot in the backfield...
I think we will be pretty good on O.
Really? ...and your wealth of knowledge in this area comes from????
How firm thy friendship O-HI-O
alabama did alright with terrance kody and kansas state did alright with an entire team full of juco's. maybe if he had behavior problems id agree with this.
oh and cam newton

Uh yeah. You mean like Joe Germaine, Larry Grant, and Kevin Johnson? Those guys just killed us didn't they?
I agree. The fact that he was expelled from high school is not a good sign either. I am from the area of Ohio where Smith comes from and he actually thought he could gain a 5th year of eligibility in high school because he was expelled his entire sophomore year. That is why he went JUCO in the first place.
really not too excited about this as it appears to be a sign that Clark will not be a Buckeye....or Wilson for that matter. But we shall see...
I dig it! Welcome Corey!!!
A fifth year of eligibility in high school? LOL. That's a first.
I don't think most of us had him on our radar as of late with all of the Dontre Wilson and James Clark talk but the fact that he's been to a variety of venues in two years certainly doesn't hurt.
Usually he's the type who truly would've wound up somewhere like a U$C, LSU, Tennessee, Miss State or somewhere else and after he became a top flight WR nationally, we'd come on this board and ask something to the extent of, "How in the hell did we allow him to get out of the state of Ohio or this region in general?"
Great video. It's clear and quite visible unlike the multitude of youtube highlight reels we have to often squint our eyes at just to view.
Plays with a lot of attitude and moxie which is something you want at the receiver position. You want receivers who relish a challenge and the type who won't back down. He seems to embody some of those traits which will be good for us in the long run.
It was an excellent, immediate starter impact land for us in a position where we're not the greatest. One less area where we have to really rely on immediate help from true freshman. Hoping a couple sophmores, or Grant 5* can step up so the 2 LB spots will be the same. Eager to see what Perkins does

First and foremost welcome Corey!
I see some ppl with concerns about Clark but I saw over on 11w that the staff let him know on his visit that Smith was signing and Clark said that it doesn't change how he feels one bit.
