I THINK WE CAN. I'M NOT SURE WHY THE CAPS ARE LOCKED OTHER THAN I WAS RESPONDING TO THE TITLE (BEING IN CAPS)
Undefeated. Book it! We're going to make the NCAA(bc they waited so long to screw us with bowl ban),BCS and B1G Championship games look silly
This thread is hilarious.
I mean seriously. Does anyone remember the predictions last season? Some things I remember hearing were:
"this team has way too much talent and will win the B1G Ten easily"
"this team will go at worst 10-2 but more than likely will go 11-1"
....that's just to name a couple. Everyone's expectations last season were just flat out ridiculous. Yet here they are again.....why? What on earth makes anyone think this? Because we now have Urban Meyer? Because Luke Fickell and Mike Vrabel were bad coaches and it was entirely the coaching staff's fault this team went 6-7 last season?
Well if that's the case....why did Urban Meyer keep both Fickell and Vrabel? I know what a lot of people are going to say...that Jim Bollman is the reason due to poor coaching and play calling. Which I'm not denying is largely true. But it certainly isn't the reason our defense performed the way it did......so why aren't people bashing Vrabel? Or Heacock?
I'm not at all trying to stomp on anyone's enthusiasm. I am just as excited to see what changes are going to take place and how this team is going to look. I think they will be good....really really good. Especially 2 years from now.
It's completely possible this team could go 10-2! Hokey Pokey is proof of that and anyone would be out of their mind at this point to think Hoke is even comparable to Meyer. Just look at the resumes'.
But it's not realistic to think that out of the gate. We haven't even seen this team under the new regime and regime changes are tough. Urban Meyer did not win 10 games his 1st season at Florida...and it's highly un-likely he'll do it here.
I will be extremely happy if this team wins 8 or more games this season. Anything beyond that and this team will have completely over-achieved and not only that.....they will have a wonderful future ahead of them!
IMO 2013 is the season.....NC! Meyer did it in his 2nd year at Florida and he'll do it his 2nd year here as well.
I think you'll be pleasantly surprised this year. The level of failure that Bollman, Siciliano, Fickell (as the head coach), and whoever was coaching special teams exhibited was virtually unprecedented in my lifetime here as an OSU fan. This team had no leadership, incompetent gameplanning, particularly on the offensive side of the ball, awful personnel decisions starting with Fickell & Bollman, and even with all the talent we had the errors by the coaching staff was just too much to overcome. I'm not expecting to go undefeated this year or anything, but 7-5 would be a failure just as 6-7 this past year was a failure. I don't expect it to happen now that we have a competent head coach, and a competent offensive coaching staff. This team will also be rid of last year's senior class and will hopefully gel more together.
And just to add -- I was certainly one of those you refer to who expected somewhere around 10 wins last year, and I stand by that. We had the talent. I (and I imagine many others) simply did not expect our coaching staff to be SO bad at their jobs that they would let this team lose 7 games (6 of them to inferior talented teams). It's just out of this world bad in terms of job performance. And in fairness the bad coaching was mostly on the offensive side of the ball. I can name 3-4 games easily that we would've won had we had even a smidge of competence on the offensive coaching staff. This is the reason many of the coaches were fired when Urban came in here.

My prediction last year was 7-5 or 8-4. Boy was I wrong.
I do understand what you're saying Razor.....and to an extent I agree. But I knew without a doubt that with a true freshman QB.....losing 3 games last season was guaranteed regardless of coaching. That's just one position. Couple that with a very in-experienced receiving corp and.....an offensive line that has under-performed since 2006 I don't understand even to this day some of the expectations people had last season.
But for me a more realistic prediction for this year would be 9-3. I'd rather error on the side of caution. People start shouting 10-2 and or undefeated...and then when it doesn't happen...they'll be whining and crying for someone to get canned. It's just they way things go.....
So for me....it will be a nice, wonderful surprise to be completely wrong.
My guess is 9-3. But that was also my guess last year.
Yep I understand your viewpoint as well -- no matter what I'm sure it'll be significantly better this year. We know who the QB is and I don't think we have to worry about bad personnel choices this year where they pick the worst player at a key position and insert him as the starter like they did with Bauserman last year, the receivers will be older, and have better gameplanning and playcalling. As long as Miller doesn't get hurt, I think we'll easily have 9 wins. It'll be so nice not running the same play seemingly every first down. That alone should help give our kids a chance to succeed.
I think you hit the nail on the head both regarding this year as well as the what could have happened last year. It all comes dow to how much Miller can improve his throwing and how fast the players can assimilate Meyer's offense. I think the defense should be fine given the experience on the DL. I think you will see more speed and atheleticism on the field for the defense.
Some people take predictions a little too seriously. Not one of our opponents will be more talented or have the better coach. Just saying
Knowing Urban's competiveness and intensity 12-0 is what they will be shooting for. Nothing less! He'll want to send a message to possible recruits and the Nation that tOSU Buckeyes are back, their badass, and are only going to get better! He will not monkey around next season, he'll have a "take no prisoners" approach as well as an "us against the world mentallity". It starts right now for him not next year. I also predict he will embarass SCum in the Shoe. Woody style. Go Bucks!
That would make my year.
I actually am willing to not pay attention to our record next year as much as I want to just get excited about each game and the new coaching staff. I want to see each game this offense getting stronger and efficient and on defense the aggressiveness bringing back the swagger. 6-6 last year was painful, but to me the biggest disappointment in the team and the coaches was very little growth from the opening game to the Florida game.
I am concerned about our record next year, as I suspect everyone in the WHAC is. It is not above the realm of possibilities that OSU goes 12-0 and finishes number 1 in the AP poll, thus making them AP National Champions. If someone like myself has this as a goal, you can imagine what is being discussed in the WHAC.... All it takes is for everyone else to have at least one loss, and Urban Meyer steamrolling a very weak schedule with 8 home games.
I appreciate the optimism. I really do. But can 12-0 actually happen with a new (but great) head coach inheriting a team with issues here and there?
I'm thinking. I'm thinking of a number between 8 and 11 wins, by reasonable expectation. We'll obviously expect to go from there to higher standard, but let's be real tOSU fans.
I feel we will go at least 10-2 on the year.
I think 10 wins is pretty realistic. In my opinion it depends on Braxton. Personally I think he will do great and we get at least 10 wins.
Yes, I believe we can go 10-2 or better. Even the players we have on board will be better athletes this coming yesr, thanks to Mr. Marotti and we have very serious players coming on board, no Bollman on the staff, the coaches all pulling in the same direction, new attitudes, new playbook and a gteat coaching staff. And I know I've probably missed a few more reasons.
Losing to who?
Lots of returning players, favorable schedule, playing without the coaches having to worry about their ranking, therefore taking chances that will pay off more often than not, better decision makers and gameplanners, a new attitude in general. If the injury bug doesn't bite us too bad, we can run the table. If not, oh well, but I am sure looking forward to watching it unfold.
This my friend is a stupid and idiotic post. We lost our best Olineman who is possibly a first round pick. Best Rec Best rb. I have faith that this team will come out ready to play hard but to say that we lost the fat is just plain stupid!
10-2 is possible. But I think we may see a two quarterback system this year. Why not? No way to win the Big Ten or go to a bowl. I think you will see Braxton play to improve his throwing skills and keep the defense off balance with his running skills. But I think if Jones or Guiton can pass they will see some PT. This is a new staff and they will be working out thier own rinkles working together and getting to know the players. I really think some players who did not perform well last year will do much better this year. For example, I look for Klein to be much leaner and faster this year. I saw him play in HS and he could run but they bulked him up and slowed him down. I look for him and others to be a step quicker this year. Just a thought. Do not write anyone off, but we will see some younger players get thier chance as well to play. I think our D again will be good this year. If we had any type of offense last year our D would have looked better and would have had to play less series. Much of the criticism of D last year was due to them being on the field too much.
Why wouldn't we go at least 10-2. There is a load of talent returning. Last year's freshman class was absolutely stacked and now they are sophmores. The D-line returns plus a healthy Williams. Plus the schedule is as weak as it has ever been. We should be favored in at least 11 games and maybe all.
Lets hope we don't lose to Purdue for the 3rd time in 4 years.....
look at the schedule, a lot of teams we play lost a lot...........we start 4-0 for sure, then BIG play............who beats us? Our D is going to be the strongest fastest D in the BIG and perhaps the nation, with a much improved O.
