So what if Charlie Strong was the man behind those UF defenses ? anybody given a thought to that after the sugar bowl ?
I don't want to hear about him anymore... How we are scared and he is the only defensive coach in the world.. Him & Bo pelini ...
So goes for Monte Kiffin also.
Also about how great Clowney is.. when our Freshman made a better play, it was a draw and Clowney got in there.. He is good but with the Hype ..Come on..
Also I don't want to hear how we are building an SEC Defense..makes you guys sound like the media, we are building a Buckeye Defense.
Mingo beats a freshman starter and all of a sudden he is unfreaking believable.. this whole thing is over-blown.
Also Bo Pelini is way over-rated, can him lots of NFL ex-coaches running around.

Too logical, too obvious, too simple, therefore unacceptable to this board...
He is a good coach, just doesn't have the players yet.
Ask Urban who he would rather have on his staff Greg or Luke.
12-0 ,Yeah right, don't want to hear it.
Our guys weren't perfect, but made the plays when it counted. I'll take that.

Yep, the fraud has been exposed.
Hokey and Mattison have now lost their last two games. Frack 'em!
Great way to snatch defeat out of the jaws of victory. 'effin' putzes can't get it done on the field.
Both are way too over weight and both lose too much!!!!!!!!
East Coast Player Known for Knocking Fools Out One At A Time!
Bollman loves him to , 34 points with a bunch of freshmen.

How firm thy friendship O-HI-O
If mich had one playmaker in the secondary the would have won this game going away.
Didn't hurt my feelings the didn't though.
Mattisson did a great job coaching d-line on Urbans staff in 06.
Ill bet Urban would take 12-0. You have a short memory my friend, OSUs D dominated Michigan this year. Gotta give Luke a little time too
By the way Luke Fickell is 39, i think Mattison is 63 .. Hitting retirement.. younger guy..more potential
So what if Charlie Strong was the actual architect of those FL defenses ?
I don't mind Luke. I didn't jump on the Fire Luke wagon few months ago.
UM loses in the last second and the OP has to post a thread about how Greg is a terrible coach!!!! Come on now.
Every coach goes through up and down years. HC, assistants, etc. I understand he is a UM coach - so OSU fans now need to jump on him like he is a bad coach and should rot in hell. I understand that. It's the location not the coach. We don't like him anymore because he is a UM coach. But don't give me he is a terrible coach crap.
many years ago, majority of us hated Urban (since he was the Florida coach, and kick our a$s) Now he is a Buckeye and we love him. But during those days, did you think he was a crappy coach?????
Charlie Strong was the architect, he was the defensive coordinator Mattison was only the d-line coach. Mattison was the DC for the Ravens after Ryan.
And Mattison had Ray, Reed, Ngota, and many more, I would be a genious DC as well.
Remember, Mattison was DC at Notre Dame during the Bob Davie years as well. Those defenses weren't that great.
I agree with you about us continuing to refer to the Bucks as building an SEC defense. To me, that's an insult--even in light of that conference dominating college football over the course of the past six years with some of the nation's elite defenders.
What we need to do is as you suggest in building our own brand. Let's have opposing coaches come here to learn from us for a change. See how we do things as opposed to us going to somewhere like LSU and walking away saying, "Whoa!" (as Tressel did after the 2006 season when he went down there to assess how they do things).
We were the team that throughout the '90s put numerous defensive studs in the NFL. A handful of them drafted in the top 5 throughout the decade including Dan Wilkinson with the #1 pick. We were the team then who had consensus First Team All Americans on defense--players who were nominated for and won the Bednarik, the Thorpe, the Nagurski, the Lombardi and Lott trophies. This is the program that produced a DB who hit so hard he was nicknamed the "assassin."
What we need to do is reestablish our pride as a defensive unit. Stop trying to imitate and emulate what they're doing and get back to doing what we used to do on defense: dominate, obliterate and produce future NFL standouts!
Certainly if Mattison had been available when Meyer took over here a year ago, he would've hired him. And as you suggest, what would we be saying about him then?
When I refer back to Meyer during his Gator days I'll still cite how he cried, cajoled and coerced his way into the title game to face us. How he nabbed Shariff Floyd from us, etc. That's who he was at that time and for anyone here to all of a sudden act like he wasn't a formidable competitor to our success then would be lying. Sure we're grateful that he's here now and hope he'll bring us as much success as he did to TSCIG (That School In Gainesville) but we must always keep it in its proper perspective.
Here's the thing: Fickell has only served at Akron and here in any defensive coaching capacity.
Muschump has been at Texas, Georgia, LSU and with the Dolphins under Nick Saban. And setting aside Mattison's 20+ year age difference, he's also been at a multitude of venues. That's what this is really all about.
Say what you will about Bo Pelini but he too has been at an array of schools as well, along with brief stints in the NFL. He may not be great as a HC but a D-coordinator he is.
That's what we're judging Fickell by. I never gave him a hard time about his ability as a head coach because in my mind he was still very much a position coach who was just learning how to be a coordinator. Recall that that is what he was behind Heacock--LBers coach/asst D-coordinator.
I think that if ever he'll take a D-coordinator job elsewhere--move around some more. Go serve a stint on a Pac-12 staff, possibly in the NFL or elsewhere in the B1G then he can become a better, more seasoned D-coordinator. I think that by him deciding to stay here in his hometown and never venturing out may have stifled his ability. This may not be the case with all but certainly with him. The more variety of schemes you see, the better you are as a coordinator.
Like I said if he is good enough for Urban & Tress, he is good enough for me. I don't need him hopping from school to school so you can be impressed with him.
Btw he is @ tOSU his alma mater, why would he move his family around if its not for a big time job?
He probably loves Ohio State, plus he is young.
STRONG had been @UF since 02 before Meyer went there, Meyer kept him, and then Meyer Keeps Luke.
Btw I am taking you up on that stuff that you said that top LBs won't come here because they will rather Go to Muschamp or Bama ( because of Smart & Saban) by the way Smart & Saban specialize in DBs.
Because Luke isn't a "Real LB" coach
Get ready for Mike Mitchell & possibly Johnson.
I have Perry for Olb & Cam williams stepping up @ Mike from a really source.
I say our D is in good hands, just settke the safety position & we are good to go.
Is that a trick question, Chu, since didn't he have both of them (Mattison from 2005-07 and Strong 2005-09)? What's right about Charlie Strong is almost the antithesis of what's happening with the B1G:
1) He's African-American, which the B1G lacked in a head football coach since Denny Green was at Northwestern in 1985 and until Darrell Hazel was hired by Purdue, and that's why I think Hazell will succeed--he's got something very different to sell to African-American recruits
2) He coaches a lower-tier BCS school in a state that doesn't produce a lot of BCS talent (but he got 30 kids from Florida to come to Louisville)
3) There are only 5 B1G jobs he'd probably consider: OSU, scUM, Nebraska, PSU (without sanctions), MSU and Wisconsin; everything else is a lateral move at best; compare that with the SEC, where every school except Kentucky would likely be an upgrade over Louisville
4) When Louisville joined the ACC, Strong not only got a pay raise so they could keep him but he also got a bump in job prestige.
I've said it before and I'll say it again: the B1G looks at the MAC as its head coaching minor league (Kill, Beckman, Hazell) while the SEC looks at every other BCS conference, including the B1G (Saban, Bielema) as its minor league. The SEC schools typically hire proven winners, while the B1G hires calculated gambles (example: Alvarez was never an HC until Wisconsin hired him, nor was Bielema; Gary Andersen is 30-31 in five seasons at Southern Utah and Utah State and wasn't on anyone's list until USU went 11-2 this year).
Hoke & scum are screwed when Mattison retires. Hoke may actually have to coach and wear headsets...
Hold on a minute there, we're using the Michigan game as a measuring stick on how good our D was? That Michigan team was the worst team I've ever seen them field. DRob - Run. Garder - throw. Running game? Really? I'll refrain on the Luke stuff for now...we'll save that for the doldrums in February. gh and I can get into it again
Haahaa, +1, Indy.. The respect is mutual, despite our differences...
