CLEVELAND- Kent State Head Coach Darrell Hazell was named 2012 Mid-American Conference Coach of the Year and junior Dri Archer (Laurel, Fla.) was named MAC Special Teams Player of the Year Wednesday, as voted upon by conference coaches.
Great to see another Buckeye doing some really great things!!
Santa's got some nice helpers there......
Rightfully so. He'll be moving on in no time.

some minor redemption for Jon Heacock too - another disciple.
couldn't keep it going at YSU, but they had a story on my local news last night on him; his players really seem to like him
Heacock could be a guy to watch for the Kent State job if Hazell leaves. Fickell, Herman, and other Big Ten assistants would definitely be in the running. Mark Mangino and maybe even Mike Haywood could be candidates.
Would be nice to see Marcus Freeman get a bigger job wherever Hazell goes. Freeman is only 26 and already a position coach. Not bad. Similar to Zach Smith.

Congrats to Coach Hazell!!!!
I'm wandering if/when Charlie Strong leaves Louisville, if Hazell becomes a top candidate for the Lousiville job. He's only been at Kent State for 2 years, but Urban was only at BG for 2 years before he left.
Interesting, Hazel leaves and blows up, and will be one of the hottest coaches in football.
OSU keeps Luke Fickel, has a horrendous season last year and a sub par defense for most of this year.
They promote the wrong guy?
"man we got some fuckin weirdos on this site." - Davebucknut 9/5/13 post of the year
Hazell was hired by Kent State in December of 2010.....well before it was even a thought that Tressel wouldn't be here for the 2011 season.
Could he have been made the assistant HC and fast tracked?
Let's hope that either Purdue or Minnesota will pursue him. Because if not, the other option would be an $EC school or possibly even Cal.
And we all know what began when TCDS began hiring northern born and bred coaches--esp those with Ohio ties: championships and Heisman.
He already was an assistant HC....a position he was given in 2005. I'm not sure what you mean bey fast tracked.
You mean the MAC actually gives the COY award to a coach that has the best record? WTF are they thinking???
Do it like the BIG does, give it to a coach that has less wins than the year before, but just to shut them up about all their conspiracy theories toward the BIG....That makes a LOT more sense.
WHAT there wasn't a MAC coach with 4 losses to give it to? MAC=Joke!!!
