Hey man, Jim Delaney WILL be getting run outta town soon enough. I nominate you to take over!
Think ahead 10 years or so and say the rumors of the Ohio State/Michigan game being moved due to desire of the B1G to avoid the repeat in the CG are true. Who becomes our last game? Michigan State would play Michigan. Penn State and Wisconsin already are designing some goofy trophy with a equally goofy name for their game. Indiana and Purdue will continue their rivalry. So that leaves by default Illinois. Crappy Illinois. We're going to give up Michigan for Illinois?

Thank you Jim Delaney!
You're right, Wisky is the natural rival now. When I attended THE game meant even more than the conference championship. Since the Rose Bowl was the only bowl the B10 teams were allowed, the champion went there and the rest of the B10 teams sat home.
It took the BIG about 20 years and getting its two flagship programs thumped in the Rose Bowl and NC games in 2007 to "learn" from the SEC that a conference championship game was needed.
The complete screwing up of the divisional alignment and the demise of our once ehighly steemed conference should not be a surprise to anyone.
Well the ACC and the Big 12 had conference championship games for years....
Didn't seem to to do them any favors.
I've never watched an SEC, ACC or Big 12 conference championship game....and I'll only be interested in our conference championship game if we're playing in it.
agreed, I've never watched any conf champ games other than BIG or SEC.....just as I seldom watch any ACC football, Bowl games included....it is truly not good football...
I forgot to add....
Kansas State is sitting pretty this year....without a conference championship game.
So realistically...a conference championship game is not needed. It's just another money grab.
EVERYTHING about college football is a money grab!
True but it never ever used to be this bad!!
It just keeps getting worse and worse as the years roll by.....
Hell the NFL never used to be a money grab either until the late 80's and then the 90's rolled in....
Football both college and NFL now caters to such a huge amount of people.....to the point that I'd say 1/3 of those watching and or in attendance are there solely because it's the thing to do rather than actually being a fan and caring what happens.....hell maybe closer to half.
In fact a study was done about the NCAA March Madness tournament and the single reason it has become so popular is the fact that socially...it's the thing to do. Brackets are filled out by those who don't even watch college basketball. It's interesting to say the least.....but IMO it has watered down what truly used to be a great sporting event. The expansion to 68 teams was a huge mistake....and to think they wanted to try and expand it to 128 teams.....is truly pathetic.
So why isn't there a "People's Movement" to let the B1G know it's been 2 years and it still sucks? I'm not an Internet genius but what would it take to create a web site? Or are OSU fans the only ones who care? Talk to me, technies--you build it and I'm happy to help provide content.
Otherwise, B1G fans' complacency/apathy is giving the B1G license to get away with this. We bitched and moaned that L&L was stupid and the media mocked it but Delany said we'd get used to it, and now too much time has already passed and for the "Leaders and Legends" conference that prides itself on tradition more than perhaps any other (which is partly because we're the slowest to change), the more time passes, the more entrenched it will become as another "time-honored" B1G tradition. There are only two things that MIGHT change it: a) expansion, which might force divisional realignment, or b) fans standing up and demanding change before it's too late.
As much as anything, last year's all-SEC NC final became a catalyst for the +1 format. Fans wanted variety. Even in 2006, no one wanted an NCG repeat of 42-39, which was one of the most exciting games of the decade. And mark my words: as soon as OSU-scUM play each other two weeks in a row, there will be an uproar from the media and all the other B1G schools' fans saying it's either boring or unfair--and who could blame them? I don't want to see two teams play 2 weeks in a row--and Delany & Co will move all the cross-division B1G games up sooner in the season.
That means eventually The Game will be moved to the middle of October as the schedule evolves from OOC to cross-division to division to ensure that if a rematch were to happen in Indy, it'll have been at least have been 5 weeks since the two teams last played, not a week. And yeah, that probably means we'll be stuck with Illinois because Wisconsin and PSU will have established their own rivalry, while MSU likely slides into our tradition year-end slot against scUM. And perhaps the B1G's greatest tradition of all will have faded into obscurity, along with Pitt/WVU's Backyard Brawl, Kansas/Mizzou's Border War, Oklahoma/Nebraska and all the other rivalries that have fallen victim to expansion.
Bookmark this thread because it's coming, fellas. And we'll bitch and moan and accept it, just like we have bitched and moaned about Leaders and Legends and yet blithely accepted it. As fans, we're nothing more than sheeple, boys--that's people who act like sheep--and we're being blindly led to the slaughterhouse.
I'm on board!!
Let me know and I'll do my part...I'm not a techie so I don't know where to begin in that department....but sounds like at the very least a petition needs to be started.....to get a movement of some kind going.....and take it from there.
Maybe it would take getting the Buckeyes money people (boosters) on board to help preserve the importance of this tradition.....they have the money and the power to take this to court if needed. I really don't know.....
The only thing that Gene Smith and Jim Delany understand is money. If, or when, the game is moved to sometime in October, the only thing that will get their attention is empty seats. Lots of empty seats. Do you think Ohio State fans have the stomach to boycott the Michigan game? If we come to that bridge, I would hope we could muster the strength to have a boycott, but I don't think it would ever happen.
It will never happen. They'll just keep spoon feeding us us bullshit just like the girl in the Sixth Sense who thought her mother was taking care of her when, in fact, her mother was slowly poisoning her and by the time we wake up, it'll be too late and The Rivalry will be dead.
I posted this same question, the same day, on the Michigan board....it is a pretty even split, with I think a slight majority wanting us in the same division...they say swith Nebraska with us... I say switch Wisky and Michigan...makes a better geographical division...
