Try and take one positive is it seems Matta has cleared some of the bench to find someone who wants to play.
I dunno but it sure seems like Thad just don't care, or has given up. There's just no spark anywhere with this team.
He's the only one with a 3 and would have another if it wasn't for an OF. He's our only player
I feel like I could coach this team better than Matta. You shouldn't have players that are ars limited as certain he has on the team. It's not that hard to teach a guy how to shoot, dribble and be versatile on the court. I want to coach a basketball team one time just to see how much difference I can make. I know from my time playing that you can improve with the proper technique. Mattas players are too limited.
Develop? Either you can play or you can't play.
If you are a big time basketball program you don't recruit players to develop. That is where leagues like the Big Sun or MAC are for.
Do you think Kentucky or Duke recruits developmental stiffs .
Players like Williams, Scott and Thompson obviously can't play at this level.
They are almost juniors and are not good.
This program needs players that are elite.
Can't shoot the 3.
Can't defend against the 3.
Can't make a layup.
Thank god it's over.
Ya that sucked.
Not going to get better next year either, OSU has 1 recruit and I believe he's mid-level for next year. Correct me if I'm wrong. I believe we are headed for a down turn in basketball. Indiana is back and TSUN has got it rolling with sons of pros. Matta took advantage with a down sanctioned Indiana thanks to Calvin Sampson. That's how we got Oden, and Thomas out of Indiana to come here. I believe OSU will me a middle of the pack program in the B1G for the foreseeable future. Basically, back to normal for the Ohio St basketball program. Every few years have a good team that can make a run but mostly mediocre team which it has been since the 60's. Matta had a great run. Got the most out of it as he could.
Agreed totally with this post.
I watched the Louisville and St John's game the other night and the color commentator talked about how basketball is suffering in general because of the mentality that you always have to take it to the rack. Nobody ever works to develop a shot.
I think this goes down to the. AAU level. Basketball is a game you can get bettrr at just working hard on your own. Think about the hours wasted in a car traveling to tourneys that could be used working on a shot, dribbling, etc...
I agree 100%. In America, we want to play games and have highlight reel plays. In Europe, they spend more time in practice then they do in games. Americans want to hurry up and get to the games, like that's the only thing that matters. Allen Iverson anybody? This is why Europeans shoot so well from 15-20 feet. They lack the athleticism as we do in the States, so combine good shooting with that which is why we dominate the world. Why do you think Lebron is playing at a high level, he was born with freakish athleticism but thanks to his hard work practicing his shooting from mid range to 3 balls has made him unguardable. Shooting is still the name of the game in terms of offense. Games are fun! Practice is work! We don't want to work anymore.
Only 1 recruit? Seriously?
Thanks, there's sign of hope there. Hopefully we get somebody that can shoot not just dunk. Hard to believe Scott was a McDonald's All-American but just shows you that you see kids dominate in high school vs inferior kids sometimes it's hard to project that to the next level. Hard to do that for NBA GM's also
Meh. Everyone over reacts.
OSU is having the same problem at Michigan...they hit a wall, and are struggling. Good coaches will get them ready for the stretch run.
The best coaches in the world can't make shots for these guys.
This has to be one of least talented teams in OSU history when it comes to putting the ball in the hoop.
Is there a worse trio of big men than Amir, Rav and Trey?
I don't think Shannon Scott could make a layup against Mt. Union.
You wouldn't be the first or last! Don't sweat it.
Hell, I didn't even care to watch the game. Just found out at 4pm what happened. I stand behind my early season prediction for this team which was I don't see them getting any further than Sweet 16.
No, I think you guys hit a wall you can work to get past. Our guys are who they are and not much will change until the off-season. The total lack of a shot by anyone other than Deshaun has caught up. Tired legs late in the season can no longer cover for this. However. I'm sure every one of these guys will be playing a bunch of worthless games in the Columbus summer league, not spending any time actually correcting their weaknesses.
I agree. Those teams Ayers had his last few years were a joke talent wise, but I think a couple guys could hit some shots.
even a team with the best recruits in the country can be awful...kentucky is playing like shit
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - With Kentucky on the business end of coach John Caliparis most lopsided defeat in 24 years the frustration and exasperation of the season finally showed.

and North Carolina isn't exactly lighting it up this year either.
Something we need to be mindful of come football season, although Urbs gets his boys to BALL. Thad seems to make kids nervous to fail.
I disagree (can't believe the one Michigan guy is standing up for Matta and Co.).
Look, you always had a flawed team. You have too few guaranteed reliable scorers. Your game really needs to be on defense. Today the Badgers rolled you even on that.
I am not saying you can win the NCAA tourney without a lot of luck, but the OSU team is good enough to make a great run.
There's not any dominant team this year so im not too worried. I just dont understand why we dont push the ball and run more. The half court offense that's our go-to should be last resort with the talent we have. Thompson, Ross, Scott, Smith are ALL fast break players. Thomas will flourish in any offense and i have no idea what kind of offensive player Amir, Aaron and Evan are. So get out and run boys!!!
You guys think this year is bad. What happens when DeShaun leaves after this season? We're gonna be in some deep poop
