I think too many posters are assuming that Marcus cannot make the reads at the linebacker position. I don't know where any of you might be getting that information. Maybe it's true - I can't say - but believe Marcus' good play on special teams earned him the chance. If he has the speed, strength, aggressive streak and athleticism in him to play well on special teams, it seems that coaching the "how-to-play" the linebacker position that he was recruited for shouldn't be an insurmountable obstacle.
Not to say there isn't going to be improvement this year, but the freshman linebackers last season who did get some live game reps were not that impressive and we know Grant got benched and Boren had to be thrown in there to salvage the play at the position. It seems that Marcus should have been given a chance before going to the desparation move of throwing Boren in there. With that said, the Boren move ended up working out very well last year, but it didn't do us much good as far as getting guys some experience going into this season.

he had issues like Grant and the others. not picking it up
Meyer has said several times that a major part of the reason that OSU will be in nickel this year is because of the style of offenses they will be playing against on the schedule. Secondarily, it is about getting the best players on the field regardless of the position they play.
From the NFL.com website:
Indianapolis Colts | Official Team Site
Height: 6-2 Weight: 245 Age: 32
Born: 2/26/1981 Atlanta , GA
College: Alabama A&M
Experience: 11th season
Time and time again you learn you can't reason with sugar crystal ..
even BAMA is in nickel 80% of the time , but they still call it the 3-4. He says we can't run the 3-4 because Fickell is inadequate or some BS like that.. but truthfully the offenses in college football cannot be defended effectively with the 3-4..
In reality, then, Alabama's defensive set has been more of a 4-3, or a 4-2-5 in the frequently-seen nickel packages. It was a boon to verbal clarity when Nick Saban finally let the cat out of the bag in December, admitting that Alabama plays 80% 4-3.
Sugarcyrstal doesn't know what he is talking about 95 % of the time..

Too logical, too obvious, too simple, therefore unacceptable to this board...
