that went on to play in college.
I don't have many or any that were super stars but here a few that I remember....
I played against Jeff Compton in baseball and basketball in middle school. Never got to play against him in HS since my school was much smaller and our HS were placed in a different divisions. He went on as a P/K for OSU. I never knew this. He was a heck of an athlete, and a really good guy. That I remember.
Jeff Compton, PK, Ottawa (Ohio) Ottawa-Glandorf – Compton was a converted soccer player who didn’t play football in high school until his junior year. He was a quick learner, however, and earned a scholarship based on making 12 of 15 field-goal attempts as a senior. Compton was locked in behind veteran kickers Rich Spangler and Matt Frantz during the early part of his career and wound up never lettering for the Buckeyes.
Played against Keith Cupp as a sophomore in football. He was a senior. Keith went to Leipsic and then on to Findlay College (now Findlay University I believe). Huge dude who played for the Bengals on the OL for a spell as I recall.
The other really good player was Scott Crawford from Cory-Rawson. He was a hell of an athlete in all sports. He went on a scholarship to SCUM as a QB although I don't think he made it all four years. The guy was a left-hander who could shoot the lights out in BB and throw the football on a rope.
How about you?

Played with Jeff Uhlenhake and Shane Montgomery in HS. Jeff went on to be a great OL for the bucks then several yrs as center for the Dolphins. Shane went to NCst as their starting QB, then he was HC at Miami(ohio) for a few yrs......Go Newark Catholic Greenwave
I've seen some of those Newark teams (at least back in the late '80's early '90's) and they always had some fine football players. I dated and married a gal from Delphos and we watched some of those epic St. Johns and Newark battles - at least they were back then. I don't follow the teams in that area anymore.
Ahh the memories. State champs 84,85,86,87,....Delphos, Mogadore, Defiance Ayersville...some great small school f-ball. Forgot to mention Billy Franks. went on to set all kid of receiving records at Dayton, now the coach at Catholic

Throw in Delphos Jefferson too. They were runner-ups in 85 I believe. That team was loaded with talent, some of which went on to play at OSU. The Clausen (sp?) brothers among a few others If I recall correctly. St. Henry is in that mix as well.
I graduated from Fremont Ross in 1996, I played with Charles Woodson ('95) and against Damon Moore (Fostoria '94) and Orlando Pace (Sandusky '94).

Wow. That is quite a list. Is your body still intact?
i watched newark cath play against troy in a state game in 87' - thats the troy team that had that t.b. who went to south carolina...newark cath was all huge too...they were tough
Scott McMullen is the only person i know of that i played against.
“Defeat is a state of mind; no one is ever defeated until defeat has been accepted as a reality.” - Bruce Lee
I played against Braylon Edwards, Julus Curry, and Marcus Curry. They went to Bishop Gallagher which is no longer a school in Harper Woods Michigan. I played at Gabriel Richard in Riverview Michigan. Yes I know they all went to scUM and I did play high school football in Michigan.

I played with Lem Reynolds who went to Toledo and Orlando Rodgers who went to Bowling Green. A couple years behind me was Nate Stead who played for OSU. Also OJ McDuffie in Midget football. His brother is best friends now with my brother.
I played with Doug Rowland and his brother who's name i can not remember. They both went to Toledo and are minor league players now. Cory Winfield who also went to Toledo was a good friend of mine in high school.
I wrestled with Rocky Ratliff who went to Hofstra and is now a coach. His brother Jeff wrestled for OSU was a couple years behind us.
My wife's bosses son Keith Wanners son wrestled for OSU.
Also my boss Jerry wrestled for OSU.
Edward McCants who went to northwestern. But was a couple years behind me. Also The minister for my bible study group is minister Harris. His daughter is the point guard at Mich.
BIG Champs 2013 [Buckeyes]
Oh yeah i also played and lost to Samalki Walker ( Louisville) and Trent Tucker ( Ohio).
little giant class of 93 ^^^^^^^^^
Delphos lost to Catholic in 85! My brother caught 6 or 7 passes in that game. They were averaging like 60 points a game. Catholic beat them 26-6 if I a remembering right.
I played Anthony Rice's son this year. He's going to Huston or something like that. We shut the kid down and he talked a lot of trash he couldn't back up.
(Anthony Rice) former ND great

We've always had the BEST DAMN BAND IN THE LAND now we got the BEST DAMN TEAM IN THE LAND- Jim Tressel
I played with Rob Kelly at Catholic. We faced Matt Calhoun back then at Heath.
Ha. I think you are right. My brother-in-law played on that 85 Jefferson team as the TE I believe. He still hasn't gotten over that loss.
Thats about the time Granville's program turned around. They used to finish at he bottom of the league just about every year. Theyve been pretty tough the last 10 years.
That Jefferson team had 2 big punishing backs tha Catholic shut down.
The week before Catholic beat Mogadore 56-48. That game was friggin awesome.
Played against Matt Wilhelm at Elyria Catholic, was a beast to take down, also apretty good bball player.
I think its awesome how you all are talking about Mogadore, right next to my home town. Such a small world.
played against clark kellogg a few times at open gyms in cleveland. his younger brother eric was my age and clark would show up at the gym sometimes.
Jay DeWitt was the RB. Scott Boggs as the QB was a handful. That was one heck of a Newark team and yes now I remember the game with Mogadore.
I loved playing Mogadore. I played against them twice and my brother played them twice. Thats the first team that we actually saw run trick plays about once a quarter. Statue of liberty, potato pass (thats what we called it). We beat them in the State championship in 87 or 88.
