He really wanted that punter. So the whole we weren't planning on punting thing is just sour grapes on our fans part. Btw Will Muschamp is a douche, calling the guy last minute knowing his parents and brother are UF alums and his brother is a current student ..but its all good we will be alright. Don't underestimate special teams in football though.
Special teams is a real game changer . Great class though... Frank E get that leg ready..

Too logical, too obvious, too simple, therefore unacceptable to this board...
I'm def. concerned about this. I love Clark, but I'd rather have lost him than JT. Every team needs a punter, but no team needs 6 WR's. This is overkill, and we better hope Frank E. is really that good a punter. Or that the offense justs keeps scoring.
what?? no way!!! We have Frank Epitropoulos as well as Drew Basil - we arent hurting for a punter...Meyer may love the punt play just as much as any other great coach BUT he loves TD's a whole lot more & a national title contender will need as many high explosive perimeter guys as possible - there could never be too many. There is nothing to worry over on this deal. Meyer will find a kid to walk on & he will find a punter next year. Muschamp played his trump card on a punter - albeit an extremely talented punter - but still...it was a bad move on his end.
Hope you're right, but I'd like to have had this guy. My ND friend was all over us over-signing. I told him I wish Urban woul'dve really OS'ed and taken this guy.
I have heard from a lot of Buckeye haters that they were waiting for Meyer to get caught up in over signing too or in any form of recruiting violations - people are sad to have that much hatred for a program or a guy (Meyer) enough so that it causes them to burn that much energy in keeping up with how a program that they dont follow is recruiting !! No rational / reasonable person would purposely disregard rules / regulations while in the spotlight that tOSU is now in...lol..it is crazy to even suggest it
Haters gonna hate! Fuck em' if the can't take a joke!
we had a fairly productive offense last year scoring nearly 40 per game, and even then we punted nearly 40% of the time,
assuming a small improvement on that we can expect to punt at least 33% of the time.
with that said, having zero schollies punters on the roster is unacceptable, to leave 33% of your possessions in the hands of a back up WR and your kicker who may not be able to do both for long or a walk on , is unacceptable
that back up WR can BOOM the ball with his punting abilities - he punted in the ARMY ALL-AMERICAN game & he was launching it 60+ yards each attempt...no worries here man
Yea. Put me with the group that sees good punting as an ESSENTIAL element of a great team.
However, I too have heard that Frank E. can boom the ball. I hope he comes through.
It's been awhile since we had a truly good punter. In close games, field position is essential.
This is one of the effects of our sanctions. We'll just have to make due with what we have until next year, but the good thing is at least we do have a couple of guys who can do some punting even if they aren't going to be All Americans. It's better than having to ask random students to walk on like some schools have had to do with kickers.
I'm not worried about this at all. I expect we will punt far less this year than we have in any year in recent memory. Not to mention Urban generally goes for it as long as we're across the 50. As long as we have a serviceable punter (Epitropolous could easily fill in if needed) we'll be fine IMO.
ditto, 3-4 punts a game is not a concern. so someone punts it 35 instead of 45. OK. 10 yards in field position will not be a reason we lose a game next year, especially with our schedule.
This has nothing to do with over signing or sanctions. The kid picked Florida. Plain and simple fact, they called late, parents were like "play with your brother". You guys are making it sound like the ship was pulled.
anyone that would rather have a punter than a game changing receiver is out of their mind. secondly, it wasnt clarke who took townsends spot it was vonn bell. if meyer REALLY wanted this punter so bad he'd be in this class. otherwise you're insane to think we'd ever give a punter a scholly over clarke or vonn bell.
"hi vonn, it's coach meyer.. hey we dont have room for you because we have a punter in this class instead... sorry."
also our punting/coverage sucked last year. not like it could get any worse this season
it's amazing how this fan base will always find something to bitch, moan or cry about
This right here.
Oversigning has nothing at all to do with this. First of all, the B1G allows oversigning to an extent. They allow it because of a little thing called attrition. The problem lies in how a team gets down to 85, and the B1G monitors that (SEC doesn't). Us signing enough to put us at 83 is not the end of the world. All it means is that we'll be closer to 82 when 2 or 3 players leave before fall.
Personally, I don't care at all that Bama has 99 kids on scholly now. What I have a problem with is how they get to 85 and the fact that they don't have to justify the departures, while teams in other conferences do.
Exactly. Well put.
I didnt know he punted in that game. Your info eases my mind. I thought he was just a "good" hs punter. Not a friggin All American.

Regular season games don't concern me, especially with this pathetic schedule we have, it's when we're battling with a top ranked team and every single yard counts, especially if we're pinned deep in our own end. I have no desire to give AL or other top team (assuming we're in the fortunate circumstances to play them) to give them the ball on our own 45 yard line.
It's the big game, the tough game, the one game a year where we are having a rough go of it against a lesser talented team, the game where we're in a dogfight where a punter is worth his weight in gold. I'd have liked to have landed him.
it has nothing to do with no space, we wanted him bad..he just chose to stay home. his brother goes to UF and his parents are alums. So it was more about location. Muschamp offered him right before he was about to committ or sign.. after he lost clarke to us.
me 2 its the Big & tight games am worrying about, we all know how special teams changes things, the guys who think we are never going to punt are ridiculous.
yeah i still will believe what im told that urban absolutely told him there's no more room. i wont expect either party to admit it
well thats your problem.. if you will rather believe that , when the punt team & special teams is what Urban loves the most..that is his position as a coach primarily. Plus Meyer said Frank E has been injured since he got here.
Win some you lose some, but we will find a punter..i hope we go to the aussie guys
really my point is who cares? we may have had the worst punt team in the history of ohio state last year. it legit cannot get worse whther we have a walk on or a guy on scholarship punting
meh....for every punt at the end of a game that appears to be a "game changer", I will point to 10 other plays or opportunities where that punt should not have even mattered. People remember that 1 play because it's near the end of the game, but it will not be the sole reason we lose a game. let's get over it. the kid wanted to go to FLA.
