I can't help but think that if Rod Smith can get his fumble problem in check that he could possibly be the best back on the team. That is including Hyde as far as I'm concearned. The guy shows some real promise if he could just shed that pesky fumble fairy. Does anyone else have an opinion on this?
i believe Dunn is the best back on the team. he will show it this year.
Wow, you can see the future... I believe your wrong... again... go back to the attic...
LOL .. you are funny
Damn!!! No one can have their own opinion on here without getting skewered?!
I thought your parents were taking you to Chuck E Cheeze, take the night off gangster...

Rod Smith can be an absolutely elite Big Ten RB. If he can get some carries early this year (which he will to start as long as he doesn't blow it in camp) and make some big things happen he'll rack up more playing time this year in actual games. He definitely has the potential, no question about it. I like the wiggle I've seen from him as well when cutting, like that run in the Nebraska game.
I agree Razor, but he seems to be playing from behind, if that makes sense. Urbs seems to love him some Hall & Carlos is really good.
I like Smith a lot. Hope he has a great camp. Kid needs a bunch of carries.
Buckeye backfield is crowded. Going to be fun to watch who seperates themselves from the others.
I think that all of the backs have potential to be elite. We are F-ing Loaded at offensive skill positions. I just hope we land some Studs on the OL in 2014.
I also love Rod Smith, he reminds me a helluva lot like #27.
you can pay the piper, but you can not buy his soul.
you are downvoting me and ragging on me because i say our very highly rated sophomore to be RB may be the best RB we had.... you sir are not very football savvy
I like Rod Smith , but i like Hyde better, completely run with power over people.. beanie like
Too logical, too obvious, too simple, therefore unacceptable to this board...
Yawn, really, downvotes, hardly... I like Dunn - but its a crowded backfield, especially when Ball gets back to 100%.
you're stalking me worse than 82d buckeye .. yikes
Especially, since you send the PM's... lol
Rod smith not only could be better than hyde, but he could be a top 5 rb in the nation!!! He is physically as imposing, stature wise at his position than anyone in the nation... he's one of those athletes that jus stands out due to his build... football wise, he has excellant vision, wiggle, proved he could catch the ball, excellant blocker, tough runner, good speed for his size... he's everything u want ur rb to be... only if he could hold on to the damn ball!!!!
I can't agree more, hoping its like an Eddie George thing and he puts it together this year
tOSU could have the deepest backfield in the nation, bar none. I don't know that he will see the carries, and now you have EZE and Dontre coming in , it's going to be very interesting how Urbs & Herman utilize Rod.
Was his natural position TB? I know his brother is an LB'er, maybe he switches?

I like Smith, period. I think he is very talented, but the whole group is disgustingly talented. I think Ball is the most gifted, though.
Don't sleep on Warren Ball either. Many were praising him before his foot injury.
"Any board that would ban 3yds is worthless"
I agree about Ball, I may have said that earlier. With Hall back, Ball on the mend, EZE & Dontre, hell you could even throw Jalin in there as well... I wonder if someone opts out and requests a transfer?
Hyde doesn't not remind me of Beanie.. Hyde is a pretty good back but nothing special at all. Hyde rarely makes a play if he doesn't have a big hole and can't make plays on the edge. Straight ahead runner. Beanie was a national star.
I'm long past the "he looks" deal. Hyde IMO is by far the best back on the team. He wants it more than any other player. Yes, Smith has great potential, but if I had to pick between Hyde and the others no doubt Hyde would be my first pick. It's hard to understand that even by Buckeyes fans that Hyde does not get the credit he deserves by so few.
There's a sense of comfort with hyde, i feel very confident hyde will get 5 yrds every single time you put the ball in his hands... regardless if there's a hole, or he has to carry 4 people he'll get you those 5 yards! However hyde lacks the vision, and wiggle, and even sometimes lacks the willingness to bounce outside enough to be brought up with the names eddie george, beanie welols... i like hyde alot, but rod smith has a higher ceiling if he holds onto the ball...

He's got most of the "featured back" traits, but it's hard to find one thing about him that would put him above OSU's other RBs. He's not the biggest, hardest runner, fastest, shiftiest, etc. I don't mean to compare his game to Eddie G's, but he's similar in that it'll be work ethic (if anything) that pushes him forward. With his tool, if he works the hardest, he could be the best we've got.
On most other Big 10 teams he'd be the featured back, no doubt.
